Ordered this MONTHS ago...emails/myspace messages to label have gone unreturned. Anybody willing to part with one? Or have a legit contact for the label?
-
Why do you keep losing records in the mail?
-
Guess I suck.
-
The label guy has been totally MIA to everyone including the band.
Mitch, I think I have an extra I can send you and I will get the guy to reimburse me or something.
-
Is he "going to be" around any time? I wouldn't be pissed if I knew that eventually I'd get my wholesale order or money back. Its been months for me too. And it takes a lot to get my slow ass pissed off about shipping.
-
I havent seen him at the shop, around town or at shows in a while.
His names Matt.
Really nice guy.
Hope hes OK.
-
maybe he headed south down to old el paso...
-
...and fell in love with a Mexican girl.
-
He might be trapped inside Bristol Palin
-
Why y'all love those boring Shop Assistants copycats is beyond me...

-
vivian girls suck.
-
Also in the same boat. Talked to the guy months back about running the concealed cash method. He said it was a go. Sent out the cash and never received a single thing. No return emails or Myspace messages.
Bummer wave.
-
thats the thing, he was always SOOOO NICE. Super fast at responding and a good guy for sure, you could tell. came through for me before too. So I really think he mighta had some real tragic shit go down. It just doesn't seem like him. I've sent like 10 emails, myspace messages, asked the V Girls about him, asked Mike in a PM, NOTHING turns up. I also really do hope the guy is ok. This spells KBD.

Welp, not so much a comment on Shop Assistants/Vivian Girls, but why do people that post here find it perfectly acceptable to retread '66 or '77 over and over again, but whenever a band goes for a different sound that hearkens back to a different time/genre it's a "copycat."
I reallove love The Carbonas, but seriously, what's so different about them from a bunch of bands from Europe and the US active from '77-'80?
It doesn't matter because The Carbonas do it really well, just like all the other bands that are championed here.
Sneaky Pinks-Hubble Bubble.
Etc, etc, etc, and it's OK AND GOOD.
-
Matt Molnar. I went to high school with him. I'll ask a friend who knows him much better what's going on.
I havent seen him at the shop, around town or at shows in a while.
His names Matt.
Really nice guy.
Hope hes OK.
-
Screw the haters, I love Vivian Girls
-
Mitch, can you give the rest of us a heads up when you order? I want to avoid the curse that has been given to you.
-
It's happened to me 4 times. Out of 4 million orders. Shit happens.
-
Not so bad then.
-
There was a Matt sighting in Brooklyn today.
He is alive.
Promises to send records "this week."
??
-
Vivian Girls are better than most shit people tout on this forum.
-
I respectfully disagree.
-
i was told this was sent to me twice, never got it though

im glad he's ok. im sure he'll come thru. the unknown factor here is also "rights" bullshit. i have no knowledge of the secret inner-workings of repressing records like this, but i mean, im guessing the V Girls are a little bigger than they were at this point! there might be some red tape he's kinda "bound in".
i just hope the guy can keep up with this stuff. i feel bad for labels that do a couple records and get a SMAAAAASSHHH HIIIITTTT. probably hard to keep up. See Bubbledumb. Awesome dude, sweet label, great releases, HARD TO SATISFY A ZILLION MAWFRANKAZ.
Until i hear from Mr. Matt I will speculate in my new book about the Vivian Girls.

He may go AWOL.
Really might.
-
wha? ok. this is now just uber-weird.
-
Well, when they ran into him, he told the girls he'd get his stuff to ship this week to people who paid and distros and give the band copies of the record, now he's not responding again.
Come on, Matt, come on... pull it together brother.
-
i killed matt and i am wearin his skin as a disguise for when i burglarize banks and different scientific and medical research facilities. also, i sold his organs. pm me for records. will ship next week.
-
I ordered 1st 7" through Plays witrh Dolls and didn't get it. I know now on the Vivian Girls myspace it states that you wont get it through them but at the time of ordering it didn't say that. Does anyone know what the issue was? and does anyone know who i might be able to contact to get a refund?
-
I think this is on the same subject:

-
i'm not the only one then. Don't want to bum anybody out but is this guy dead or something? I'd feel bad reporting him to paypal if that was the case.
Anyone got a spare copy lying around. I'd give it a good home over here in the grey UK.
-
The guys isn't contacting the VG's in any way/shape/form.
They wanted to go get the records from him and ship it to everyone who paid, but now he's not answering phone/emails.
Sorry guys!
-
WHAT A TWIST!
-
Rip-offs are the new pre-order.
Someone let Matador know that this guy has solved all their problems.
-
I am releasing a split 12" between Eat Skull and Blank Dogs on my new label.
Hand screened art on leather bound LP sleeve. Individually numbered and lathe cut.
A steep price tag at $18.99 per but with a limited one time only run of 250 this is a can't-miss opportunity. THIS RECORD WILL NOT EVER BE RE-PRESSED AND THE BAND HAVE WILLINGLY FORFEITED THEIR COMP COPIES!!!!
Taking preorders NOW!!!! Paypal only, thanks.
UP NEXT: Vivian Girls 8-Track of their 3rd LP which will be recorded in 2 years but I already have a copy of it downloaded from an MP3 blog that you will never find. Ever. ONLY 26 copies pressed!!!! HURRY!!!

But in order to keep things cost efficient, the minimum Paypal order is $50.00, right?

Is this what you've been asking Caleb to do for your "luxury project"?

Vanity project. Not luxury. Purely vain.
Also the art on those 12"s is by Raymond Pettibon and was drawn with Darby Crash's blood on a canvas spun from the hair of Dez Cadena.
-
The luxury project is actually pressed on crushed velvet and comes with a toot straw and Scarlett Johanson's KBD Super-Awesome Mixtape #12.
-
ScarJo is selling originals of the Freestone single BIN on the 'Bay for $1.99.
Shit...I just bought the last one. Sucks for you guys.
-
The VG's are still trying to get the records from him and if they do, they'll send the ones that were paid for.
-
So was this record actually pressed or did this dude scam everyone just to get the preorder money???
-
i'm gonna go on record as saying
(http://www.herloyalsons.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/guinness-guys.jpg)
BRILLIANT!
-
So was this record actually pressed or did this dude scam everyone just to get the preorder money???
The record was pressed like 4 times.
Its just the last pressing he's been sitting on. I think he has the FEAR.
-
In these tough economic times, when inflation looms large and everyone can't stop talking about "subprime" this and "credit crisis" that, there is no better solid fiscal strategy than sitting on the 4th pressing of a 7" record.
-
Maybe he's had a nervous breakdown.
-
I henceforth decree - in the interests of saving time and making light of this great, ovarian band - that Vivian Girls be referred to solely by the abbreviation 'VG.'
THEE GOLDMINE RATING SYSTEMS PARALLELS ARE ALL TOO MUCH!!!!

Wow. My wholesale order was of the 2nd pressing. That's what I thought he was on. 4th pressing? He's REALLY behind then. and where the hell did the whole 3rd one go!!!???
TIP: Nervous breakdowns are useless. Just eventually send the shit. Sitting there being all freaked about how people are gettin fussy is not going to fix anything. Slowly sending them off will at least get the job done albeit slow. Shit nervous breakdowns are the end all be all of self-fulfilling prophecies as far as labels go. "I'm in deep shit....uhh.....better think about it....oh now Im in deeper shit....fuck....shoulda sent em....aww fuck...im still thinking....coulda been sending..."
been there. dumb that.

Here's the breakdown:
1st: 45 copies on off-white sleeves silk-screened w/ test press copies.
2nd: 100 copies on Clear Vinyl
3rd: 1000 black
4th: 100 copies on Red-ish
5th: 1000 black (which he probably sold out of and is freaking because there's lots of orders for it, I assume)
-
all 3 of my clear copies were numbered out of 200.
this thing about the 2nd batch of 1,000 makes perfect sense though. he prolly is freaked if he spent the loot. anyways, no way to tell so ill just wait it out. like i said i know he's a nice guy....thats what makes this so incredibly weird to begin with considering the dropped emails.
-
Sounds more like 2 pressings, with a ridiculous test press order at the start.

Right 200, I think both color versions are 200.
He probably has orders for something like 2-300 copies, looked at his boxes, realized he only has 50 and panicked. Got some beer and decided to never check his label's email or MySpace ever again.
Just speculating.

I dunno, I have one of those test presses, numbered to 45.
Probably 2 pressings and 4 versions (test w/ silkscreen sleeve, clear, red and black).
-
i know where they went.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/09/10/lhc.collider/index.html

So you're saying that ordering 45 test pressings is not ridiculous? Whatever happened to needing 4 test pressings, or 6, or maybe 10 at most? Total manufactured collectable.

ah so they've started. i heard they might create a black hole by mistake and.. well you can guess the rest. Puts this whole thing into perspective. Still want a copy though

Dude, I don't know. I never even know they were around 'til I saw one a month or so ago.
I've never seen one on eBay or anything, there's no mention of it on any websites.
They sold them on tour because the real press wasn't ready.
They sold 50 test presses of the Woodsist 7" for $5 at their merch table too.
It's not rare for a band to ask for a lot of test presses if the real one isnt ready by tour.
Minutemen did it.

yep. this could be cool if you call it an "edition" and those circumstances are made clear for sure (from the label's own mouth) rather than "test pressings". if you say its a test and you have 45 its completely manufactured rarity.
this is also definitely 2 pressings. the numbers wouldnt make any sense to go back down from 1,000 to 100 again for the third. Its pretty clearly 2 pressings. each with their lil batch of 100 (200 actually) color collectors keepsakes.
Does anyone have a numbered red vinyl copy? how many is it out of? Also, any difference in the label colors on the 2nd pressing?
-
ah so they've started. i heard they might create a black hole by mistake and.. well you can guess the rest. Puts this whole thing into perspective. Still want a copy though
yep. smoked a few cigs this morning kind of excited, sort of curious, but all in all feeling pretty good about the total destruction of the world. weird calm.

I don't know what the fuck they called the test presses. They only sold them at shows, for like $4 or $5 as "singles." The label didn't sell them at all. Doesn't something have to be advertised for sale in order to be a manufactured collectible? Doesn't make sense to just sell it at your merch table as a normal single if it is as such.
-
yeah its a smart move if they knew it wasnt out yet. needed the merch.
just glad to hear because it would frankly be pretty gay if somebody was like "45 TEST presses" to TRY to cash in on the collectability of a test. Think about it.....you COULD make 45 tests and call them "test pressings" and sell em off real slow all over for BIG doLLArs.

OK, I'll give them a pass if it was to have copies ready for tour and they sold them cheaply. But it must suck to orders tons of tests and the record skips or something and you have to reject it. Do pressing plants let you order 5 tests to really test it, and then another 40, and then your real order?
Dischord is the first punk label I can think of who did a lot of test pressings in the early 80s, but they used them for promo (sent to radio stations, etc) since they wanted the press ready in time for the record release. But I think you have a lot more cases now of bands/labels doing this because they can sell/trade them later for $$$.
Dude, I don't know. I never even know they were around 'til I saw one a month or so ago.

one of the scientists said the black holes it will create will be small and will take many many years to become a threat. GOOD NEWS! haha!
exploratory science is cool though. i mean, i bet the first time someone opened a cadaver they thought a bright yellow ghost might fly out. instead you find shit out. this might be the case here too.
people have some weird amazing ability to imagine things to explain things they have no clue about....my only REAL fear about this kind of scientific uncovering is that if everything is explained there will be no use or room for imagination. people will be so god damn boring.
ah so they've started. i heard they might create a black hole by mistake and.. well you can guess the rest. Puts this whole thing into perspective. Still want a copy though

no they charge you like $2 per extra test beyond 5. they ship together as just a group of one time tests.

also, if the record skips they'd replace all the tests too. they would have to replate it at their cost and send tests again free of charge. if you ordered 45 id imagine theyd cover it the same way. ive had projects with 3 or 4 re-cuts before it sounded right. each time it was free. just takes FOREVER. so i have all these fucking groups of test pressings that have skips in different spots! ha!
-
As someone who knows everything about this situation....I just thought I would clear it up.
The only reason 45 test presses were made is that the 7" wasn't ready for the SXSW tour and we needed something to sell.
1st Press: 200 Clear, 100 red, 700 Black.
2nd Press: 1000 Black.
Matt (Plays with Dolls) disappeared the first time in June. We think this is when he stopped mailing out orders. This is also when he stopped emailing us or answering our phone calls. We ran into him once in late July and he seemed totally fine, and told us he was mailing everything out, and gave us 40 artist copies of the 2nd press. Then we went on tour in early August and he once again disappeared. Around that time, we started getting tons of emails from angry people who didn't get their 7"s, and we think the last ones he actually mailed were back in June.
Cassie ran into him on the street the other day, and after ducking into a store to avoid her, she caught up with him. He made a bogus claim that the post office was "mad at him" for mailing too much stuff and said he would meet up with us the next day to give us all the remaining records, so we could mail them all out ourselves. Instead of meeting up with us, he has gone back to refusing to answer our calls or emails.
Rest assured, as soon as we get our hands on those records, they will be mailed out.

Sounding bad too. Showing wear, surface scuffs, held up to a very bright light revealing many tiny lines across the surface. Living VG must be rough.

Large HARDON COLLIDER only slightly different. Either way we get Pauly Shore. Dont get mad at me. I didnt make up the rules of the Hadron/Hardon Colliders.

This reminds me of the story about the singer of festival of dead deer. He had a heroin habit and was getting it from some mexican mafia guys. I guess he got a big front and dissappeared. nobody has seen or heard from him since.
not sure how true the story is, but heard it from one of his buddies.
