and it totally kills it! 6 tracks of fast pissed off hardcorepunkrock. This is my fave Chicago band and you should all seriously check it out. Go to www.fashionableidiots.co m and buy this shit up, yo!
-
what songs are on it?
-
nevermind fag.
-
It an OK record. Career Suicide-esque.
-
OK? Did you land one of these already?
I'm going to predict this to be one of the best 7"s of the year.
-
It an OK record. Career Suicide-esque.
Haha, have you seen their singer?
-
Yeah. Are they all on clear vinyl? I listened to it twice last night, only seems OK so far. I like the sleeve art.

No, why? Dude sounds a lot like Martin.
-
Dude looks just like him too. Slightly smaller jaw.
For the record, they were borrrrrring in Pittsburgh this past weekend.
-
Sounds boring to me. Nothing really stands out, Jack.
-
It could be because of the fact that they've put on some of the best shows I've seen in the past year, but I absolutely love this band and dig the shit out of their record as well.
-
Hardcore is best experienced on your penis.
-
I can't imagine them being boring. I've not seen them play a bad show yet. Musically speaking there is zero waste product out of that band.
-
I saw them at Mutiny a few weeks ago with Survival Knife and just thought they sounded kinda as I'd expected. The main thing they needed (as all the greatest HC bands had) was more drama in the songs. They sure as hell aren't even edging close on Naked Hippy territory (best Illinois hardcore band ever? probably). Granted, the sound is pretty much garbage in there, but I was expecting way more in the excitement department. That, and their name is way too close to Chronic Sick.
-
Naked Hippie? Never heard 'em. You should copy me some, Todd. Sorry 'bout that headbutt on St. Pattie's day btw, but you know me and something inside just won't play it cool.
-
Naked Hippie had current members of the Resinators (from Bloomington, IL), if that helps. How have I still not heard that fucking band? Someone played a Chronic Sick tape for me once and I remember thinking it was pretty decent, but that's about it. Still have yet to see them.
-
Eric, Naked Hippy albums were a fixture at Murphy's for years, so I'm sure you've probably seen the LP a million times. It's Jeff Wilson's band from the mid/late 80s, who is now in the Resinators (who have been around since the late 80s, too). Barry Steppe from Negative Element (early 80s chicago suburban punk band) was the guitar player in Naked Hippy and shreds like no tomorrow, and Shayson Clay (later joined Resinators) was the lead singer. The album is so severely underrated in the HC crowd, it's just silly. I suppose I should burn a copy to disc for ya's?
-
Yeah, passed it by a million times and procrastinated on buying it. I'd love a copy, though!
-
I can only get into the Resinators when I've smoked too much weed to get up and turn off the turntable. Karlic loves that shit.
-
matt, it's nothing at all like the Resinators. It's more early 80s straight-up hardcore with the best vocals this side of minor threat (for the style, that is). Barry Steppe on guitar is right on. Probably the closest modern band that sounds like them is Holy Shit, and that's about it.
-
I'm amazed that those guys have done something really cool in the past. I mean, they're kinda funny dudes and all, but...
-
Todd, burn a nigga a disc, maaaaan.
-
Poortenga, tell these chumps how Chronic Seizure are live.
-
They might be great live, but this record is kinda boring.
-
It may be because I've seen them kill live so many times and I may be a tad bit biased, but I personally think the record is excellent. Their demo tape might be a little better, though.
-
The 7" can't touch their live prowess, I'm afraid, but hey, we'll always have the basement!

-
Record seems OK on first listen, but didn't blow me away. They were good when I saw em at Mutiny, but probably will be a lot better seeing em at Albion.
-
Chronic Seizure was merely good the first time they played Milwaukee. The bass was so loud that it kind of threw everything off. The Formeldahyde Junkies blew everyone away that night.
The times I've seen Chronic Seizure in the past they were way better. They've increased their stock be getting the drummer from Chicago's best hardcore band too.
-
REPOS!
-
Okay you wimps. Naked Hippy is ONE of the best Illinois H.C. bands ever (A.O.F.?, Impulse Manslaughter?, Los Crudos?, ...c'mon!). Though, I will confidently state that their s/t LP from'89 (which you can still get an orig. copy of if yr. not a turd) ranks right up there with the greats of any punk sub-genre for pure hits per square inch. Get the Lp, or if yr. nice (and good looking) I'll burn you a copy for a trade. But goddamn I dont like all this Chronic Seizure is boring talk. You dorks are BORING. They are (along w/ Busy Signals) the best "fresh" Chicago band playing. Get the record or get lost.
-
Crudos is like the best band ever, C'MON!
-
Hey Naked Hippy is my friend Barry's old band. He was also in the old chicago band negative element. This label No Way is interested in repressing their LP. Anyone know much about this label?
-
let me be a little more clear. I know who the label is, but has anyone had any dealings with them, or know anything about their business practices
-

No Way is a great label, consistent quality releases and I've never heard a bad word about their dealings. They've recently done rereleases by Verbal Abuse and Honour Role, as well as the Direct Control, Government Warning and Social Circkle records that have been getting a lot of props around here. I think the guy that does the label is actually in Direct Control and maybe Government Warning, and plays drums on the new Career Suicide LP too. Anyways, I wouldn't worry about getting burned, this label is clearly run as a labour of love by fans who really dig the stuff they release and respect the bands they work with.
-
hey thanks. I'll pass on the word.
-
Yeah, Brandon and his g/f Lauren run No Way, totally fucking solid people.
Brandon has a HUGE Naked Hippy stencil on the back of a jacket.
-
I've still not heard Naked Hippy but I have a lot of friends who don't even care much for hardcore that claim Naked Hippy to be pretty goddamn alright. If anybody can steer me in the direction of picking up some Naked Hippy music I'd appreciate it.
-
i got a rip of the Naked Hippy LP - still havent given it a real good listen, but seemed cool from what I remember. I can burn ya a copy sometime
-
Excellent. Coming to our show w/ Bill Bondsmen on Sat?
-
where is that show, matt?
-
Yeah, i wanna see GoodnightLovin and Pink Reason that night, but will probably stop down to your show first and hopefully catch most of it.
-
Shows at some place called Granny's Ass. It's the Intifada record release show. New 7" I think on Southkore. Addy should be at our Myspacer: www.myspace.com/belligerentoutburst

My buddy Jeff (mentioned earlier) was in Naked Hippy. He is scouring his archives for live stuff and practice tapes to add to the Naked Hippy reish. However, as of this writing, he hasn't heard from the label or anyone as to whether this is actually still happening or not. Good to know it still might be. I'll pass the word on to him. Maybe have barry get in touch with him if you could.
