I just got dental insurance for the first time in a while. Just want to go get a regular exam but there seem to be 3,000 dentists in New York who take Met Life. Was going to book one at this place around the corner from my work and then read a bunch of horror stories about the place on Yelp. Can anyone recommend someone good? Preferably in mid-town (I work at w29th/7th).

I went to Dr. Shore on Central Park South for several years. He's a little further north then you're looking for, but I thought he was good enough to make the trip. Him and the staff are really nice and he's good at what he does. I was also pretty poor when I started going to him and he never charged me beyond what he could get from insurance, even though my dental insurance sucked. Solid dude.

Don't know any good NYC dentists but if you are in Millidgeville, GA you should go see my father who is the dentist there. Otherwise if you need a dermatologist in NYC I recommend Dr. Zizmor and his chemical peels.
Mrs. Gozac goes to a holistic dentist somewhere uptown and seems to like it OK.

Thanks Rub, that's not too far at all.
Hey Mr. Gozac - what's a holistic dentist? In-ter-esting

It's kind of like a regular dentist from what I understand. I mean the Invisilign trays weren't made out of hemp or anything. I think it might have something to do with the anesthetic when they put you under or something. She also went to another dentist before that who totally botched a bunch of work so don't go to him.
Someone else I know also had a dentist on the UWS who made him get out off the chair and while still wearing the bloody bib thing go to an ATM and take out $3000 before he would continue. I am pretty sure that violates some sort of Hippocratic oath.

Fred E. Grapel, D.D.S.
48 W. 48th St, Suite 703

He takes every insurance in the world and is actually good. Just don't expect a big, fancy practice. It's one dentist, one receptionist, two assistants and two chairs. Really boring, but solid work.
2 good reviews, 1 bad (one time I do recall a somewhat brutal cleaning, but it didn't seem so out of the ordinary. Since when it is enjoyable to get one's teeth cleaned?):

My co worker likes Dr. Herman. He said he was a cool guy, reasonably priced and is also a photographer!

Just got back from from Dr. Shore and it was a really good experience. The view from the chair is so beautiful, overlooking Central Park which was looking pretty gorgeous with the pond all frozen over. Everyone was super nice. It was quick and easy. Would go there again, and in fact I will be going at least twice more for all my cavities (my teeth didn't fare as well as the visit... I blame massive amounts of Sour Patch Kids and wine).
Also, rub-a-dub, if you're interested PM me your full name cuz they kept asking me who referred me. Maybe they'll send you some cash or a toothbrush or something?
