waddup this song is an essential summer jam (the last one, called congratulations)
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=124857167 (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=124857167)
it really captures tha innocence of being young and hittin a nug on the beach/fallin in love for tha 1st time (only 2 have ur heart broken 4 the first time, we have so much 2 learn, life is a journey)
but the rest of the album blows, this song is a masterpiece tho. let down tha front. PUNK IS BACK
-
This is done nothing for me.
-
ya gotta listen again
sounds like t rex yo
-
pure pop perfection i'd have to say
-
hit a nug, let that ego down yall

hit a nug, let that ego down yall
Enjoyed this with a fat nug.
-
While I don't think these guys are great, they do have something mildly interesting going on, at least within the sphere of music that they're operating in. Some pretty catchy tunes, and they're always name-dropping Suicide and Royal Trux in interviews, and they just had Helios Creed open for them, which at least means they have good taste and are trying to turn on their fanbase ala Kurt Cobain (obv not to nearly the same magnitude).
-
Also had one of the dudes from Spacemen 3 work on their newer album.
In short, compared to other bigger "indie" / college rock acts... better than most.
-
Jared, what'd you think of the song?
-
I didn't check out the link, but if it's the one I'm thinking of it's not bad.
-
hit a nug, let that ego down yall
I can only do what you speak with this record:

Anymore vulnerability on my part would lead to this:

-
This reminds me of the French band AIR. More rock oriented, but with a lot of the same moves.
-
and they're always name-dropping Suicide and Royal Trux in interviews
Since when does name dropping cool bands mean you're in one?
-
yo layawaybutch when you come through chicago late at night while everyone's in bed i'm gonna wake you up for a smoke we hit some nugz and i'm gonna put on this song and just wait and then we'll both burst into tears hugging and then we'll go to sleep cuddling. CUDDLEMONSTER :)
-
this song is really good though, by being so punk & negative towards hipper pop music we're closing off pop gems from the dime & on. pretty stupid.

-
"Ben and I took a month and a half to write songs in a tiny cabin in upstate New York, close to Woodstock," VanWyngarden explained.
Afterward, they took those songs to Malibu, where they joined forces with legendary British psych-rocker Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember and Jennifer Herrema, co-founder of the American indie group Royal Trux, to complete the sessions for their sophomore release, which VanWyngarden says will be called Congratulations.

I got you to stop yappin' about fucking MGMT. My work here is done. All true about May 20th.

MGMT usually doesn't do it for me, this song is A+
-
hell yeah IMHO this whole album is dope, except maybe a song or two.
-
thank you people who enjoy POP (NOT POP PUNK) songs.
music shit...more like music we approve of shit
-
yeaaaah baby i'm taking this thread a step further and vouching for the whole album.
-
that's mah boi though
i'm not whining but i think moving threads to the pop punk is a disadvantage for the board since music that some may like is automatically stigmatized to be bad & no serious discussion of it can happen. whateva tho
shrivel up
-
To be honest, they have a couple good songs, the vast majority is trash...but this song is alright. Then again I like a lot of pop/rock type shit so my termbo cred was blown a long time ago.

I still don't understand why the Radiohead thread was shut down. Some people never got over the time thier band opened up for Nirvana, and me, well, I never got over the Radiohead thread.
-
yeah what the fuck? why would anyone delete the best thread there ever was on TB?
-
mad people are afraid of the TRUTH
ps: radiohead and this band blooooooow
that columbus show is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
this song blows....and I liked some of the crap off that last album

confessional time: the new record is really pretty good. the production is sweet. i feel dirty now.

arrrrg, there is no problem liking music that is not "punk" or not "cool". Sometimes I feel like we're high school punks getting mad at our favorite bands for "selling out" or whatever. Getting over that phase was the best thing that ever happened to me musically. Sure, obscure punk shit rules, but that doesn't make liking an awesome song "dirty". STUFF THAT SOUNDS GOOD IS GOOD. I love The Nerves but I also love that one song by Girls and I think "Remix To Igniton" by R Kelly was the best song of the last decade. TASTE IS TASTE.

hit a nug and this stinkssssss

Be sure to spell GG's last name correctly for that release.
Also TASTE IS TASTE is circular reasoning (and wrong) which never helps anything.

that song that you're gaga over, wnks, has to be the fucking WORST out of all of them (the only one that comes close is the instro but at least you're saved the inane ravings of a sweaterbrain in that one)

Next time I see you I hope you have that Junkie XL with you. Most of their output is like the music from those anti-piracy commercials at the start of dvd movies. I've got some pants from junior high we could rock.

Comments: MGMT rhymes with Polyphonic Spree. It?s true. ?It?s Working? makes me mistake the two psychedelic pop bands. MGMT made this record filled to the brim with pretty basic weird music. It?s pretty listenable, but repetitive and unnecessarily exploratory. Unlike some people, I don?t necessarily hate ?Flash Delirium.? It?s a bit too much to really handle, but at the same it?s relatively average. ?I Found A Whistle? is one of those tracks where I imagine a bunch of people holding whistles and each other?s hands in a large auditorium. The band successfully rips off the likes of the late Jay Reatard with ?Brian Eno? for nearly two minutes before a small jazz break and psychedelic mash-up sets in. So for a dude like me ?Brian Eno? represents the very best of this album and is right up there with all those Oracular songs that people hold near and dear. ?Congratulation? is a neat softie rock song. It won?t get you dancing or really doing anything, but it?s chill. I?d be pretty shocked if anyone really falls in love with this album.
tl;dr version: It's sort of bad except for "Brian Eno" --- sounds like Jay!!!

You ever hear a' this band SONIC YOUTH?
But seriously, in neither of my original posts did I mention anything about them being "COOL" maaaan. All I'm saying is that compared to other bands of their stature I think they at least deserve a little bit more credit than your Vampire Weekends or your Yeasayers. I mean for all I know Helios Creed now has a couple new fans that would never have found out about the dude otherwise. Maybe Jennifer Herima and Sonic Boom got nice paychecks from working on this record. What have Dr. Dog done for anyone lately, y'know? And as far as their sonics are concerned, it's relatively innofensive and at times kinda catchy. I don't give a flying rat fart if these dudes started out small, released their own 7", partied with John Dwyer and snorted Reatard's ashes... I like Justin Timberlake and Madonna fer chrissakes!
-
who is dwyer anyway? is he a real punk or some bozo the clown
bud dwyer, now theres a punk
-
maybe i am getting old, but these songs are really awesome. i am buying this. don't give a FUCK!

Andrew, whichever one that is (I have never met him) is the step brother of my close friend Agatha. She used to always tell us, years ago, that her brother's band was gonna be famous and we'd be like "yeah, sure, whatever".

Kidding but these guys are pretty OK. Look like prats but at least they are bringing new sh*t to the table. Actually, I'm digging on this song more and more. It's got this Phil Spector sh*t going on.
-
It's official; I'm gay for this song. I wanna take it to a movie then a moderately priced after-film snack then hopefully get a hand-job from it in the Park. I'm probably gonna be too busy to call for awhile though. Work and all you know.

-
are you guys kidding, this band is fuckin terrible
-
This song is better than most modern indie music but definitely not good. Glad I at least now know what this band sounds like, as I was somewhat interested in them after hearing them gush about the TVPs in a radio interview the other day. They're taking Dan Treacy on their UK tour apparently.
