Possibly the two best LP's of the decade:

Jedi Mind Tricks -  Violent By Design LP

Quasimoto - The Unseen LP

Why was this moved to the pop punk section?

Last time I checked, hip hop was music...therefore, it should be in "music shit"

Furthermore, why is the "electronic/dance music" thread in "music shit" if a hip hop thread can't be located there....maybe that should be moved to the pop punk section also, unless you want to have double standards.

when I started going to rock shows and seeing how the artists sell their own shit/ chill around and talk with ya/ not wanna get big..ect.. it reminded of the 90s, people selling shit out their trunk. the "underground" shows I've been to around here in tampa now days suck. they're "underground" but it just seems like everyone just wants to get big. in clearwater aka "wick city" there's a better scene.

yeah, pretty much most rappers i meet just wanna get big. the best live rap I've ever heard is my friends fucking around freestyling at the house..."garage rap" I guess.

I read in the old thread that wu tang sucks live, but the records are good. true. i been to a wu tang show and there was good energy, but a buncha wiggers like goneoffdatlean said. (saw all these PBR ads everywhere. this was before I even knew what the word hipster meant.) and most BIG rappers pretty much just have the record playing WITH the vocals and they just sing along to it at the same time as their buddies on stage. sometimes just saying the last few words of the line and not really putting anything into it.

the best live rap show is when they have just the beat playing. no vocal track going. you can hear him clearly and appreciate the breath control and all that shit. no fucking buddies on stage with mics and shit. it's like hearing the song for the first time. kinda like going to a live rock show. little things are different than like how it is on the record.

i remember this fucking kid told me he likes concerts to be exactly like the record, because he likes to sing along. shut the fuck up man, god damn.

here's 2 examples of good live rap by BIGGIE.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_sOkd6l4Lo   - dunno why puffy says it's a freestyle, it's not. but it's cool that the chorus is sung live and not played by the record or sung by the audience like now days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hbwdAOogBw - good shit. nice and simple.

anyone seriously into hip hop should check out my friend Chris's new label DOPE FOLKS RECORDS. They're reissuing unknown, mostly never before released hip hop from the golden era (late 80s-mid 90s). It's all top shelf stuff, all records are limited to 300.

ODD FUTURE WOLF GANG KILL EM ALL

this band is like the butthole surfers of hip hop.  i'de been craving a new group to blow my mind, and these guys have left me still wondering.   they are really young, and really weird, and have a total grip on every concept of their art from lyrics/music to video to graphic representation.   i love when bands can so naturally reveal themselves.

here are some youtubes to get started but look them up, all their stuff is free to download.  its like they know nobody buys c.d.'s anymore.   dont know whats up on the vinyl.

not by any means- i think they did one 12" from a 1989 Mke group but all the rest have been from all over. That Ruthless Rod one was a Chicago group. They did a release party in Chicago and all the original members & family & friends came out.

I wanna go to that Wu show bad...low on dough tho...

i saw Wu Tang in LA in 97 at the Palladium, now THAT was a show... Damn.

Check out Common Market - up-and-coming stuff from the pacific northwest. guy's a solid mc, easily one of my favorites, even if his social justice lyrics get a little corny sometimes, and the beats are pretty nice.

Too bad this is exiled in Pop-punk. I just found it. These guys are great. Here's the blog with all the downloads. I've only listened to the Earl Sweatshirt and the Radical Swag mix. Both are awesome.

"Here's a Mix of super obscure Hip Hop 12"s. Nerd Shit, yo. All from '87-'94, and all really hard to find. You don't care. Enjoy it because the songs are good."

'Uptown Saturday Night' returns
Hip-hop marks its night the first Saturday of each month at Mad Planet

June 26, 2011

It's been a year since Milwaukeeans John "Kid Millions" Kuester and Chris Schulist formed local label Dopefolks Records, and the two music impresarios are as steadfast as ever in their commitment to unearthing rare '80s and '90s hip-hop reissues and unreleased material.

Last year, Dopefolks released EPs from artists representing Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, North Carolina, Chicago and Philadelphia. Although its customer base is primarily overseas, Dopefolks hopes to gain more support in the United States as its business expands.

To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Dopefolks is reviving its popular album rerelease series, "Uptown Saturday Night." The monthly parties will take place the first Saturday of each month starting this weekend, showcasing a newly reissued album.

"Uptown Saturday Night" kicks off at 10 p.m. Saturday at Mad Planet, 533 E. Center St., and features the Supercut DJs spinning classic old-school and contemporary hip-hop all night. Admission is free before 10:30 p.m., $4 after.

I've been doing sick sets of (mostly 80s) hip-hop at Erotic Neurotic. Usually do a 45 minute or so set at some point during the night.

Shit like (all on wax): Cold Crush Bros. early Ice-T ("Ya Don't Quit"), Kool Moe Dee, Ultramagnetic MCs, Beasties, Run DMC, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Wu Tang and related (ODB, Raekwon, Ghostface), Sugar Hill Records 12"s, Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, De La Soul, Public Enemy, QBC (Queens-Brooklyn Connection), "Shake Them Titties" (blanking on the name right now) and other jams. It's fun as hell playing that shit, even a lil' segue-scratchin'.

I need "Jam On It"  and Poor Righteous Teachers on wax.

I can't really get into this dude too much(probably because i'm old)... kind of cartoon-y, gets compared to Eminem a lot... But he's got some shit to say(rap about), and does a good job of it... Apparently he's not a fan of Tyler theCreator/Odd Future....
