It will be at least 2 more months before I'll get to skate outside... crap. Last year it was first of april we finally got to uncover our miniramp out of the snow and it took two more weeks to actually be able to skate it.

Meanwhile I have been going to some indoor places but it's getting a bit old. At least I have skated more this winter than the previous one so that's something.

Watched the new 5Boro movie yesterday and now I want to skate so badly...

Our vid from last year called Simple Things if anyone wants to check it out

We've been having an easy winter in SF. Been trying to hit up a different skatepark in the bay area every weekend.

Bordertown and wasteland got demolished a couple months ago, but backyard cement bowls are popping up like crazy, especially in my neighborhood. We're gonna be building a nice cement quarterpipe with pool coping at a nearby ditch when I get spring break.

Also, the 5Boro video is sick. It's free on Thrasher right now.

im in southern california, no excuse for not skating. recently started again, starting to skate more transition, can finally do frontside grinds on transition now after a bunch of falls. relearned all of my flip tricks, but just fucked up my back so i've gotta give it a rest. hopefully i can skate some parks in seattle, going up there in a few weeks.

Skated a little bit today for the first time in maybe a year. Way too fat. I got a whole new set up recently, but when I ordered my bushings they only sent 1 pair. Finally just ordered the second pair.

Texas is fucked!!!!! Get your skateboarding in now!!!! Went out Thursday and hit 2 parks and a backyard bowl, it was 85 degrees!!!!Ha,ha I'm not really complaining. This summer was/is going to be brutal though. Lived in Clevo for 29 years so I know how it is to be cooped up and deal with the shitty cold weather...oh how it hurts even more when you eat shit. Austin has plenty of spots popping up,parks left and right, ditches galore. Lot of crazy shit. I'm sure Thrasher will be here for southby again hosting the Texas Death Match. Real Punks Shovel Snow.

Having moved to Portland from frozen-ass Madison it is killing me that I've been in the "I used to skate" category for a few years now. Not that I was ever competent at it, but as my vision goes I just don't know. Anybody know any low-visioned skaters? Not gonna be doing any detail work, but think I'd enjoy a dip into some macro scale rawness. Don't terribly care about fucking myself up (I say from my desk), but think I'd be a bit of a hazard to all in a significant melee style operation.

House Park is fine cause it's right in downtown Austin....I prefer Lockhart or Cedar Park but those are definitely farther drives.

I skated Lockhart maybe 7 years ago. Went to some cool spot near some train tracks.

Still haven't ever been to the Round Rock park.

after not skating for a year and change due to living in a crappy small town (population 10,000) with no skate park and hardly any spots plus dealing with the shitty winter/summer weather in the midwest, i've finally started skating again since moving to pdx. still getting used to being on a board again but i'm feeling more confident and remembering how to skate without fear which is nice. charge it! really need a new board and some bigger wheels though, mine are worn down to the core almost! going skating now because it's a sunny, cloudless day, which apparently never happens here during winter. i've been to a few parks here, pure park in st. johns, some cool plaza type one called ed something near 100th and powell, seen burnside but haven't skated it yet (too big/gnarly), and seen but not skated (started raining as soon as we got there) some park off of 82nd by a high school. oh, and there's a really cool diy park off of division and 16th that's really fun, mostly trany, quarters and bumps that flow into a 4 foot mini bowl with slight over vert, tile and pool coping, it's sick. i'll post pictures of it next time i go. really want to check out the battleground park in washington, heard that it's awesome. but yeah, trying to skate as much as possible again, even if it means just riding around town as a mode of transportation, but it's kinda difficult given that the weather is pretty unreliable most of the time. watched zero-misled youth, toy machine-sucking the life, and baker 3 yesterday, all sick as fuck. if anyone has copies of old skate vhs's that they either want to sell or wouldn't mind dubbing let me know because there is a lot of stuff that i'm after. i have stuff i can dub in trade as well i think.

Sounds fucking rad man! Thanks for the invite, I'll PM you... I need to buy a whole setup and some cheap but functional shoes for the endeavor, and I'm on a budget while my wife job hunts, but maybe I'll cut back on the records and beer (where all my disposable goes) and get something together ASAP. Don't even know how much this shit costs in 2012; hopefully blanks are still cheap.

I'll also check to see if there's any VHS tapes that made it along with us during the move. I can't remember what there was (and there weren't many), but most were purchased during my "most intense" period of '94-'98, probably. Unfortunately, I know we had to abandon most of our VHS collection the night before our move due to sheer lack of space anywhere for more crap. But I'll check and will get back to you.

New web promo video from the Pontus Alv company Polar is great: http://youtu.be/LV8dn3Uv48U

I just skated this new concrete park in Ukiah, CA over the weekend.  It's really fun: http://www.skateparks.com/completed_parks.php?nid=146

I live in the Midwest, and there's really no worthwhile indoor parks nearby, so each year we build our own in a small warehouse space.
Here's a clip from the one we have this year:  http://youtu.be/x9sliCvWDCE

Went to Lockhart yesterday....juggalo spray paint everywhere. dumb ass kids are gonna get their rad park shutdown. Are you talking about the under the bridge spot by the train tracks? Skated that yesterday as well...gnarly jagged teeth coping, punk. I like round rock, the bowl is fun, cradle, clam, bird bath, roll in. The lights are excellent at night! New park in pflugerville as well,I haven't seen any photos yet.

That shit rules!  It's like a trip through my room in high school.  I've been skating a bit here in SF, but not as much as I'd like.  Anyone else over thirty and down to skate tranny/curbs/etc.?  My knees are fucked and can't handle drops.

Also, if you're in an area where you can't get decks at a reasonable price hatedskateboards.com has some good shapes for pretty cheap.

Gonna get some beer today and go skate!! (to an indoor place sponsored/owned by some christian cunts, there's an actual cross on the wall made from skateboard decks... seriously. Who cares, skate to hell)

And if this weather continues I'll be skating outdoors in a month.

Was able to push about for a few days. Predicting snow again as of the morning. Hit the usual 3rd street bumps and ledges and went down to the baby canal ditch and re-worked the body back into motion. Got some empty spots off the river that some d.i.y. building was going down...hoping to re-claim and re-work that shit. So building and hoping for the sunshine boys...

skated this park in west linn all day yesterday, super fun, pool coping on everything, nothing else in the entire park! hung up first run and got a nasty hipper but still skated hard, getting back in the rhythm of skating trany again, going fast and carving, pushing it. there's a really sweet 12 foot wave with over vert and pool coping (2nd picture, top middle) that i didn't get a very good picture of but my roommate sam was almost getting slashers on it, so gnarly.

these are pictures of the diy "brooklyn" park in south east portland. last picture is the 4 foot mini bowl with over vert and pool coping! saw some dude pulling airs and grabs in it the other day, totally fucking insane. the only thing that sucks about it is that it feels crowded when there's only 5 people skating there so it's kind of a risk cause you never know how many people are going to be there, especially when it's nice out.

and last but not least this is the full pipe at pier park in st johns. all of these places are within 30 minutes of my house and there are still at least 6-8 more parks i haven't been to yet. skated the concordia university campus the other day and did a pretty sweet gap. last 3 days were so nice, 60s and sunny, now it's back to rain again, stuck indoors watching skate videos till it dries up enough to push around and lurk the night. more pictures to come soon...

It totally isn't, its the corner of a dead end street, you'd never know about it unless someone took you there, totally hidden pretty much despite being in the middle of town. Its really cool, ill try to take better pictures next time I go out. Gonna start using my film camera soon, so the quality should be much better

So finally I have had the chance to properly skate outside in past 3 days. It's still cold (around 0-2 celsius, 32 degrees fahrenheit) but there isn't that much snow anymore. Yesterday we had to skate on this sheltered part of an old horserace track where we used to skate about 10 years ago because it looked like this outside:

Hour later sun was shining again. But it was fun and all, just hoping that was the last snowfall of this spring.

Been skating almost every day for the past week. Hit 3 parks yesterday, 2 in the suburbs (gaberielle and holly farms, both sick) and then went to burnside for a bit, then went home and skated street and ended up finding a perfect waxed ledge on accident and then went on a journey to find "trash mountain" that resulted in us getting lost and walking all the way to the border of washington! Finally got on track and found the landfill, threw some rocks at shit and then came home. Must of walked like 8 miles after skating all day, when I got home I couldn't move my legs and I had blisters on my feet.

Also about 2 weeks ago me and some friends found out about a natural quarterpipe way up in the middle of a bridge trussel that holds up a highway over the williamette in st. johns so we went and checked it out. The thing ended up being a 3 story vertical climb up the edge of the trussel to get to so we went and got some rope and I went for it, made it up despite being pretty terified (seriously, if you fell while climbing that thing you could die, I'm not generally afraid of heights bit one wrong move and you'd be free falling about 50 feet straight onto concrete, so yeah, it was pretty sketch), tied the rope up for the others but we ended up using it only for pulling the boards up. Anyways, the quarterpipe was about 20 yards wide and probably about 8-9 feet high, pretty mellow transition, maybe only a foot of vert at the top. It was fucking awesome to skate but hard to get speed cause there wasn't a lot of room to push so the best we could do were frontside and backside ollies and bonelesses cause the "coping" was too hard to get to. Me and my roomate sam both dropped into it which was gnarly because once you hit the bottow of the quarterpipe you have about 10 feet and then there's a solid concrete wall so you have nowhere to go so as soon as you drop in and hit the bottom you have to bail or powerslide to kill all your speed so you don't smash into the wall going full speed. I brought my camera and we took a whole roll of films worth of pictures, if I can get around a scanner sometime ill put them up in here. But yeah, that thing was probably the gnarliest thing I've ever skated simply because the climb up and down was so fucking intense. It felt so good to do all of it though, one of the best days ever, I can't wait to go back!

Would like to see photos of this, sounds awesome.

Story about a spot that required heights and climbing:
There was a spot in downtown SF about two years ago that was basically the foundation of a really tall building that was torn down and they were building a new one. The foundation was about 50 feet below street level, just wayyy down there, and when they poured the concrete it ended up having perfect skatepark-like pyramids and banks everywhere. Everyone would hop the fence(which had tarp over it so you couldn't see in or out) and then climb down a terrifying ladder with your board in one hand to get down there. If you got seriously hurt down there, you would be FUCKED. Helicopter time. Anyways, it got blown out REAL fast. I was there with about 6 other people on Christmas eve when, of course, the cops showed up. There was only one ladder, so no escape. Since so many people had been going there, they decided that we were gonna be the example. A few of us had warrants anyways, so they flat out said "we're calling for more cars, you're all going to jail." Stoked. As the backup arrived, we lucked out big time because the property manager's daughter(? or something weird like that) showed up too. She actually felt bad for us and told the cops she didn't want to press charges for damage(there was none) and talked them out of taking us in, including those with warrants somehow. Summing that long story up, we skated an awesome spot that is now underneath a giant building, and we somehow got out of spending Christmas in jail.

Currently:
Weather has been crappy here for a while. If it's not raining, its insanely windy. Been trying to skate the Thrasher park once a week which is a lot of fun, but wood tranny has always kinda sketched me out. Better than not skating though. One of the dudes I go there with was filming one of those little Double Rock parts for Thrasher and broke his wrist last week which sketched me out even more.

Looking forward to hopefully nice weather tomorrow and skating some concrete.

One of the worst parts about going to skateparks these days.  The ratio of scooter kids to skateboarders is about 5:1 everywhere I go.  I've seen a lot of kids who are over the age of 16 getting into it lately too.  I blame their population growth on the lack of / lower quality of bullying today.  Hoping that it quickly goes the way of rollerblading, which seems very rare now.

Who wouldn't? Lots of people in Vancouver I suppose. But yes, they stink. It seemed like they were a joke in the 90s, but they are everywhere now.

relevant.

Ha! A*!
Last summer I was the father of a defiant 12 year old scooter kid who hated all the BMX assholes and skater twats giving him a hard time. This peaked in road trips to Newbury and Paignton skateparks where scooters are unequivocally banned. At this point it's worth pointing out that I'm a 45 year old (bad) skater who (despite tolerant liberal credentials) finds scooter kids generally 'annoying' at skateparks but also generally not 'gay' - not outwardly at their age for the most part.
Roll forward a mere 6 months - I'm now the father of an ardent 13 year old skater who can't believe he ever scooted in the first place; trawls my old Thrashers and Transworlds; can already do more tricks and stuff than I learned in 25 years, and fucking hates inconsiderate snakey scooter kids - which is all of them. And he snagged a spare Dischord sticker I had lying around to put on his deck. That's my boy.

The "coolest" part of long boarding is that they crash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZYY8AylpPg&feature=related) while traveling in a straight line. . .into parked cars.

My friend saw a longboarder hit his face on parked car just yesterday..., on a straight road. Maybe it's an inside joke

We barely had winter here in Wisconsin this year.  Made for some cool skatings when normally there would not have been any skatings.

Bump thread because I've been having the most fun on a skateboard that I've had in a long time. Been skating House Park every morning this week. Most likely the most fun park I've ever skated. It's almost twice as hot here as where I came from last week, so I can only last about an hour before I feel like I could actually die. Can't wait for a couple months down the line to skate it all day.

Anyone else currently shredding? I know the weather ain't so brutal on the West Coast....

Too much drinking, too little skating... I skate all the time I can but this summer has been really shitty weather wise, like 2 sunny days a week.

Haven't been to a park in ages, been working 60 hours a week and playing music/getting weird/spending time with the lady when I'm not at work. Its been hot this week so I probably wouldn't have gone anyways. Went to Lincoln City on the Oregon coast the other day for work but didn't get to check out the skate park, I've heard its sick though. Would like to take a trip to SF or even Seattle sometime and hit all the cool spots. Will inquire in this thread for more info if/when that happens.

People can ride scooters if they like. A lot of people hate scooters and I think that's pretty punk. Some of these people will be 50-60 years old one day and I'm sure a few or some of them will be still riding scooters if they really enjoy it and they'll be out their with their grandkids. Pretty cool! Some kids live for that shit  just like some people love BMX or Skateboard. Don't be a dick. People can do whatever they like if they are having fun. Hate is fucking trendy.

You can skate all year round. What's with the taking months off? Try skating in the winter when it's about 12 degrees out. It's fun because you'll be the only one out and own the street! Just wear multiple layers and you'll be fine. Get a Taxi Driver M-65 military jacket from your local thrift store. Those are good for winter skating.  They have nice large pockets you can fit your hands in while wearing gloves and are also roomy enough to move around freely. I've always dug military stuff because it's very high quality and you can always pick stuff up secondhand for cheap. People like Dickies, Cintas, Red Kap or whatever workwear but I've found that that stuff decomposes or wears down just as much as jeans if you skate for at least a few hours every day. One of the things I don't like about skating is that there is skate clothing and skate shoes and all the stupid shit that goes along with it to take people's money. Then you have your Dickies skater w/ trucker hat, coach jacket or hoodie,  striped socks, tattoos and T-shirt with an image on it. It's pretty plastic and boring and it's all been done before.

I guess The Spits potentially skated in trench coats. I guess that could be good for winter if it was wool for the warmth. It just seems like a huge pain in the ass overall because if the buttons, length of the jacket (over your knees), short jacket arms, tight fit in shoulders.

I mean it's pretty hard to skate outside when here's like five meters of snow on the sidewalks and it's -30 degrees outside but then again I might be a wimp so thanks for the hot tip

What a douche!

I don't know why any punks still support Duane Peters and this Donald Trump loving nonsense. No one talks about it. So fucked up and not punk. Borders = not punk. Trump is definitely not fucking punk! I was just at the Burnside skate park yesterday and there were not fucking people wearing Trump shit there! Fuck Duane Peters!!!!!!

I watched a Duane Peters documentary once; he is probably one of the stupidest people I have ever heard interviewed. Interesting life, and he was probably "edgy" in 1979, but the guy is a complete dolt. I find it humorous that a guy who spent half his life in a drugged out, "anti-authority" haze sides with a right wing, nationalist President. Total fucking moron.

I skated four days last week and yesterday. It's been that way for twenty-three years.

What Duane Peters was doing in 1979 was edgy. If you look back on his footage form that period, there's a recklessness with his skating that was a mark of distinction, let alone taking into consideration the legendary Thrasher acid drop cover he had or how he'd intentionally hang up on coping (disaster) -- which if you skate you'll know is counterintuitive. He was fucking great and I don't even like pool skating (I grew up skating street). If you can't contextualize that footage, you won't get it.

Duane didn't transition out of skating during the early '80s industry bust. Most people did. He was a skateboarder. When the vert boom took over in '86, he couldn't be bothered to keep up with the Variflex robots and kept skating like it was 1979. When skating went bust again in the early '90s, he kept doing the same thing. What would you've expected? The skateboard industry often makes the music biz look good. It's indifferent to your well being (including getting an education) and the moment your body gives out, you're done. Couple that with American (non-existent) healthcare and (until recently) an industry that went boom and bust every five-to-ten years. A lot of people got lost in the shuffle. Drug abuse, suicide, prison and homeslessness. I've been around this for the majority of my life. I've seen generations come and go.

I'm not interested in what Duane Peters doesn't know. I'm interested in that Upland footage.

Same, but most people I came up with who didn't end up dead or in prison ended up becoming radical union organizers and shit like that, not Trump voters. The only people I came up with who became Trump voters had comparatively rich parents and were white. I'm sure there are poor people from places I lived who became Trump voters too, but I have no idea who they are as I always made it a point to avoid the racist white trash I went to school with unless I was vandalizing their shit or getting into fist fights with them.
