Post by: vint on October 10, 2006, 09:46:50 AM
11.15.06 - LA, CA - The Smell - w/ This Song Is A Mess But So Am I
11.17.06 - Oakland, CA (probably w/ Goodnight Loving and Night Terrors)
11.18.06 - Davis, CA - Delta of Venus  - w/ Nothing People
11.19.06 - San Fransisco, CA - The Hemlock - w/ Nothing People
11.20.06 - Portland, OR - The Dunes
11.21.06 - Seattle, WA - Funhouse
11.22.06 - Vancouver
11.23.06 - Vancouver
11.24.06 - Portland, WA - Rotture

These shows will be with Pink Reason's old two-piece lineup (feat. Shaun Handlen on guitar/percussion - http://www.myspace.com/shaunhandlen) for added aural stimulation. More info on shows as they come in. Also, might be an added Texas date or too (Austin and Denton probably) at the end of this with the normal current one-piece lineup.

It's awesome that Shaun agreed to go, it's a lot better that way (not taking anything away from Kevin on his own).

Handlen Trivia - Shaun played a crack addict in Dolomite's last movie and has a song on the soundtrack. Dolomite killed him in an alley.

Pencil in a burrito on your SF date? do you have folks to stay with?

Yeah! Burritos all the way! I'm not exactly sure about where we're staying in SF yet. If you've got space though I'll keep you in mind for when we're there. I'm excited to try these California burritos to see how they fare up against the ones we got up here. I know Californians have alot of pride in their burritos, but, so do those of us in NEWI. We've got a very large Mexican population.

And yeah, it sounds better with Shaun up there too. Pink Reason isn't intentionally a one-piece band at all. I've had three and four piece lineups as well. It's just hard to impossible to find people who are willing to commit to the project with as much dedication as I am. I'd love to find people that would have the ability and desire to be part of Pink Reason, there has always been people who have wanted to (like Hue Blanc's Joyless Ones and members of Goodnight Loving) but it just doesn't seem to work out.

People on the west coast are lucky though, because this is the "classic" lineup. I'm very excited. After this tour, Shaun is moving to China and it doesn't look like he'll be coming back. And, it's true, he's in a movie with Dolemite and Gunner whatever his name is from Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc...

kevin, frisco - especially the mission - is food central. anything you want is there and it is good. forget the mexicans, one of the reason the burritos in the mission are so good is that all the food is fresh. california, baby. just like grapes of wrath, get off the truck and pick an orange.  great indian food in the mission and in the tenderloin.  italian, salvadorian, chinese, ethiopian, middle eastern. man, middle eastern! just discovered a middle eastern store up on mission around 26th. they have humas there that is great and the best pita bread, soft and thick. all to go.

Mexican population in NE WI notwithstanding, I'm excited for you to not only play these shows out here, but also for you to eat a real burrito.

I can't really imagine a good burrito existing anywhere north of Chico, CA, or east of Yuma, AZ. And even Yuma would be iffy because Mexicans from Mexico don't really know about good burritos. Burritos were invented in Los Angeles as a portable lunch for fieldworkers. Hence, even comparing the "average SF burrito" to the "average LA burrito" is pretty dicey. Certainly, there are a lot of great burritos in the Bay Area, but in L.A., you can expect an awesome burrito experience anywhere you go as long as you go by some simple rules: (a) eat where they eat, and (b) if the place is called "Grill" or worse yet "Grille," it is whitewashed crap. And you should know that I am generally and L.A.-hater and Northern California supremacist, so it takes a lot of honesty for me to concede that L.A. rules the burrito game. If anyone tried to tell you San Diego's the best because "it's closer to the border," tell 'em the burrito was invented in L.A., and your city sucks and needs to get over its complex about being overshadowed by L.A. You sound like Sacramento trying to steal some of S.F.'s thunder.

Anything you wanna eat on this tour...I know where to get it in each city, and where it's at its best.

Portland...great Thai food, great Vietnamese, but really bad Chinese everywhere I've ever been. There is one decent burrito which might be in order for Friday the 24th after we have burrito withdrawals. Pac NW burritos are generally terrible, and that's despite having more and more Mexican population influx. But again, percentage of Mexican population has little to do with burrito quality. Portland also has some rad diners. Monday night is $5.99 all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs at the Overlook Restaurant and Lounge. This place is swathed in orange and brown vinyl and shag carpet...not in an attempt to look hip (like so much else in Portland), but just because time has passed this place by. They have Curtis Mathes console TVs in the lounge where we can watch the Blazers get rolled by the next suckiest team in the L. The spaghetti sauce there is unique, but strangely appealing, although rather sweet.

There's a buncha weird diners in the stretch of I-5 between Seattle and Bellingham. I guess there's a Black Forest diner somewhere up there which I hafta eat at someday just for the sake of my A Frames fandom. Catfish Corner on 26th @ E Cherry in Seattle is bomb for down home soul food. Best I've had since moving from Arkansas.

Vancouver...I can only imagine they do Chinese food right.

Davis...uh, sorry...our food scene sucks. We'll microwave something.

I'm considering cancelling our LA date and flying straight into San Fransisco. A big part of my doing this tour was to get my friend Jesse a chance to see me live and hang out with him in LA, where he's been trying to get me to visit for a long time now. Thing is, with Shaun coming now, having to take the bus from LA to SF, and then back at the end, it's gonna cost alot and I was told by Freddy from This Song Is A Mess to "not expect much" from LA. That sucks. I mean, I basically had to pull teeth to get any response in LA. In fact, nobody would respond to me, they'd send disinterested responses to friends, who would send them to me. That's how much they don't give a shit in LA.

Any advice? Fuck LA? I can always take a bus by myself down to LA after tour to hang out with my bud a little bit.

As a life long northern californian and vetern of a lot of people complaining about playing LA to no one but the disinterested, i say fly into Frisco.  there are plenty of people on this forum from frisco area who will show you a good time and go to see you play.

Rik - Vancouver = killer indian food.

Well, it is almost six in the morning!

I'm best man in a wedding on Saturday. The service is being done by an Elvis impersonator whose manager warned my friends "just so you know, he likes to drink... alot." After the service we get to ride around in a pink corvette convertible for the wedding pictures.

I hate Elvis. I'm not into those kinds of cars. Yet, somehow, I'm really excited.
