This show is, of course, at Video In, which means no alcohol or nuthin'. What say a pre-show pint or six at the Whip or somewhere cheaper but nearby? Any ideas?
-
for sure! I don't know much about the Whip (or their prices) but I will look into other options in case there's a cheaper one. The Anza is pretty close by, too.

I've never been to the Anza; the Whip is nice and really close to Video In, but not cheap. I'd rather go to a bar than someone's house this time, and that shouldn't have to mean spending way too much money. Surely there's a pleasant enough dive in the area?

I am so excited for this show, although I'm not exactly sure why. I have a feeling that it's gonna sell out. What's the capacity at Video In? And, yes, I'm in for booze, wherever.

I saw Regulations last year and they weren't really all that hot, but I'm excited too, so I've been wondering why and come to the conclusion that it's because this has been a completely barren summer/fall so far, even stalwarts like Black Lips or King Khan & BBQ at overly big venues and the big hardcore fest full of soundalike crust bands. The fact that this will be a simple, straightforward hardcore punk band and that I will actually have money in my wallet and no shift starting early the next morning seems like it should add up to FUN.

Yeah, I saw them in Bellingham last year and they weren't that great then. I'm also looking forward to seeing Fuck Me Dead for the second to last time.
And KK&BBQ just cancelled all of their Canadian dates.

Maybe the last time for me....last show's the same night Toxic Holocaust are playing the Cobalt, and as much as I love Scotty and co, they'd never be able to pull off the '85 Kreator teutonic deathrash sound half so lethally!

Well, that releases me from having to go to that show, then.
As for drinks, any ideas? I want to be close by because I do think it will sell out and there should be no shortage of options around Main and Broadway. Hannah and I have been to the Whip a couple of times, which might tell you all you need to know there, but there are bound to be cheaper places with meat dishes at the vicinity....

are regulations going to the states or just sticking to canada this time?

Canada only, coast to coast. The first time a foreign hardcore band has ever done so, as far as I know, although some '70's UK punk band might have.

That's pretty rad that they're doing that.

Brickhouse is a good bar to go to after.... or before I suppose.

Yes, excellent idea! Brickhouse is my favourite bar in Vancouver but I was somehow just thinking south of Video In.
-
Where and what is this Brickhouse place?
-
the brickhouse is at main and union, east side of the street.

Where and what is this Brickhouse place?
Main & Union, a few blocks south of Hastings. It's kind of easy to miss, and you sometimes have to go in the back, but despite the shit neighbourhood, it's really nice inside. Not real cheap, but not too expensive either. I go there fairly often, especially if we're ditching the nearby Cobalt for some crust-free atmosphere before a decent headliner goes on. No food, exposed brick, dark, music is sometimes good (jazz, old ska) and sometimes not (relatively unobtrusive electronic crap), there's a big fish tank...Jeffie and I even talked about doing a DJ night there last year, but I used to date the coatcheck girl (in Toronto) and she told me that the owner actually doesn't want more business than he has, since he prefers to make a quite, comfortable living on a low-profile place than rake it in with all the attendant stress of a hip, packed bar.
-
Weird. It sounds so unlike almost every other place in this city. I'm in.
-
Hey...lemme know how The Regulations are in Vancouver...they're doing atwo night stand in Calgary (with one of my bands playing with 'em each night)...just wanna know what to expect...
-
For the record, I saw them in Chicago and Milwaukee last year and they were great both nights.
-
Nick and I were at the Brickhouse last night. It's probably my favourite bar in town, but it's too expensive to hang out there for long.

Agreed, but if we plan on meeting up around 6, having a couple of pints and then heading up to the show around 8 (because it's gonna sell out), no one's wallet will be hurting too bad, right? I'm sure there will be a party after, and I'm just taking some rye to the show anyways...
-
This was my plan.
In regards to the Regulations last year, I thought they were great. Jeff is just being too critical.

Sorry, Caleb, you're out: consuming alcohol insults Islam. Please display some cultural sensitivity, racist pig.
