Post by: vint on November 02, 2006, 11:07:24 PM
November, 11 2006
Valhalla
238 E Chambers
Milwaukee
5$

Brutal Knights
Terminal State
Holy Shit!
Shopping
&
Pink Reason

Since we're playing with all hardcore bands we decided to learn a bunch of old punk covers. We'll be doing songs by Christian Death, Fang, Agent Orange, Big Black, Fear and Stooges.

A video recording of this event would be much appreciated.

Monument (my band) is also playing this show...and I don't think that Holy Shit! is playing anymore.  I could be wrong though.

We're only sorta hardcore; more melodic/post-punky than actual hardcore.

Monument sounds like a straight edge band filled with huge, beefy dudes! I remember seeing something about you being in a band, I haven't heard you yet though. Is the guitarist of Rapid Adaptor in that band too?

I guess neither Shopping or Holy Shit! are playing this show. I've been told that we have to either play first or last. Shaun works that day, so, if you wanna see us you should come early, but stay late just in case. That's ok though, because I'm getting a big enough head that I'm going to demand to be actually paid gas money for driving down to Milwaukee. There is a first time for everything, right?

Yeah, Scott plays guitar.  Musically, the band is pretty much his creation.  The lyrics are my department.

We're definitely not a straight edge band or beefy dudes.  We're all total wussies...except our second guitar player is in kung fu though.

When we first started playing we told everyone we were an emo band because it got under people's skin.  I prefered the term "proto-emo" because we are coming from a lot of the influences that caused the whole emo debacle (i.e. Rites Of Spring/One Last Wish, Empire (Derwood and Laff's post Gen X band), various post punk bands).  We don't really fit in neatly with any of the bands around, but our sound is pretty accessible.  I could see us appealing to people into hardcore, emo, or just straight up punk all at the same time.

Gah, that felt a little too self championing.  D'oh.

Sounds cool. You guys got a space yet with sound? It's been a couple of years since I've seen you sing in a band I think.

The last time I saw Dan singing in a band he was in his underwear. Wait, I think that was every time. Naked Celebrities did a really cool Gears cover set, I remember that.

The Gears set was probably the Naked Celebrities' crowning achievement.  I wish I knew then what I know now.  That band would have been a lot better, although there was some good songs here and there.  One day I'll go through the numerous tapes and piece together something salvageable.

The last band that I sang in was Blackwall Hitch, which is probably what you were refering to Kevin.  That was about 3 years ago.

Monument's My Space is: www.myspace.com/devolutionwinter.  We have a couple of songs up from our demo.  I don't really like the way the vocals sound.  It was recorded really early on in our existence.  We should be doing a new demo soon.
