Boil-water advisory issued for the Lower Mainland
Published: Thursday, November 16, 2006
Health authorities ordered a boil-water advisory today for the entire Lower Mainland, saying torrential rains have stirred up so much sediment in Greater Vancouver’s reservoirs that tap water may be unsafe to drink.
The turbidity level -- the amount of sediment in the water -- “is the worst they’ve seen, ever,” said Vancouver Health Authority spokeswoman Viviana Zanocco.
The boil-water advisory means “you should not use your tap water for consumption, for brushing your teeth or for washing fruits and vegetables,” Zanocco said.
Residents can either use bottled water for those purposes, or boil tap water for at least a minute and then let it cool completely.
The problem is that coliform and other bacteria that may be present in the reservoirs are covered with sediment particles, possibly protecting them from the chlorine that normally kills them.

Thanks, Megan-- truly you are our first line of defence.

This weather is seriously the worst. It's the first time that the non stop rain has actually really bugged me since I moved out here. It probably doesn't help that both my bathroom roof and car are leaking. I now have a bail can in my backseat. The number of trees down on the North Shore yesterday was staggering.

I work nights outside and haven't had a day off in two weeks. Just got added for the next three nights too, although I'm at least doing the 5 PM - midnight shift rather than the usual midnight - 7 AM.

It's more the wind than the rain that's bothering me these days. I got blown over yesterday right into a fucking 1 foot puddle. I wasn't pleased.

70 & sunny here in California. Just thought you might want to know. Oh yeah and tomorrow is free oral sex day!

Wow, the water's getting worse as time passes. It was hardly noticeable when I got home from work, but now it's a mild shade of brown. At work it was dark brown. Even though the boiling kills off the possible bacteria, who wants to drink brown water?
That sucks that you're working outside in this, Malto.
And screw you, Scott.

Our society is still way better than your society, though. So there.

Eh, I need the money-- and it's actually not so bad. I spend a lot of time just sitting in the truck listening to Camera Obscura and Wire and home-made comps of Nuggets, KBD and power-pop faves. That shit NEVER gets old. Also work with a cute, smart girl who spoils me and I eat a lot of salt & vinegar Miss Vickies.

I'm trying to make some soup for my pregnant co-worker's "Fill The Freezer" send-off party... leeks were a bad choice since they're a bitch to wash when you can use the tap, let alone when you have to boil the water and pour it over them. Ugh.
My parents have been without power for over 24 hours!
The best part is that there's no end in sight, either. I love November in the Pacific Northwest!

Also, I'm seriously not exaggerating when I say I don't really think this weather is so bad. I mean, it's not that cold and you don't have to shovel it, right?

Definitely! I can't handle snow.

The weather is pretty weird here as well, not as bad as BC, obviously, but tons of rain, swollen rivers and warm (for November) weather.

I think I will wear shorts tomorrow and maybe go to the river for a swim...of course after I get my free blow job.

Seriously, this weather is not that bad at all. I work outside all day and it's really not phasing me that much. Last year at this time it had been raining solid for 2 and a half months and we had a crazy blizzard in the middle of november.
