Title: Fun with Joblessness, Vol. 1
Post by: Signed, Eric Cecil on November 19, 2006, 07:44:56 PM
Unemployment checks: Free/easy/if you pleasy.

Bad interviews: Had a couple, sure.  Both were these high-pressure boiler room bullshit sales gigs where they try to squeeze you a bit during the interview to see if you'll squirm.  If you're not taking it seriously, it gets mighty hilarious 'n' uncomfortable for both parties.  Some good dialogue in there.

Oversleeping: Usually in bed 'til 1 p.m.

Drinking: Catching up on lost time.  Out 'til 4 or 5 a.m., depending on the day.  And wintertime in Chicago is designated Chainsmoking Season so hangin' out all night getting loaded and bumming cigs and trying (unsuccessfully, except for a couple times) to pick up girls -- forgot how great that is.  Last two weeks've been real bar-heavy and Christ awmighty would you believe that even in Chicago, even given the number of decent drinkspots, you still see the same 9 people wherever you go?  Minor gripe.  I like the bar.  Next-day alkie depression's sometimes too dense but that's when I do a ton of:

Reading: Flannery O'Connor, J.G. Ballard, Dante, Normie Mailer, some other junk.  Old issues o' Roctober.  Some comics.

Writing: Not saying it's any good but at least I don't have to sneak it during the 9-5 dead-ender.

Music-ing: "Hey, can you guys play this show?"  "Dunno, the boss says I can't have anymore time off.  JUST KIDDING!  I'm a loser with no job."

Will wonders ever cease?  Wow!

The company granted me a really nice severance package when I got canned.  And I sold some records.

Also forgot to mention that I bought the first Ivy Green LP with this week's unemployment check.

There's a bar by my house that's literally the same five-six girls every fucking night. Really sucks once you have drunkenly hit on that sixth one. After that, it's turn queer or stare at the bar. Anybody else that walks in is total fresh meat, though, and highly sought after. If you're a not so good lookin' lady who wants the attention usually reserved for a supermodel, walk into a bar where the girls are mostly old stock regulars. Dudes will throw you a red carpet bonanza.

Yeah, BD's...same fuckin' raven haired scene queens lined up in a row like ducks...never changes, they don't talk to anybody, etc. So lame. I've been here for over two years now and it's still the same five bitches.

Yeh, I know what you mean.  You should go on indie night, there's usually more variety.  I used to know a bunch of dumb chicks who would flock there with all their friends.  I wouldn't even bother going during the week.

You should check out Waterworks sometime, it's not so douchey as BD's.  And there'll be different people there.  Just drop my name in convos and you'll be knee deep in tang before night's end.

Dammit! All I did was pay for COBRA with mine.
