"New York thrashers Degreaser are set to release their upcoming LP, "Rougher Squalor," in late June on Ever/Never Records. These guys churn out blistering rock 'n' roll that should, by all accounts, peel the wallpaper from the walls and crack the floor that you walk on. But there is a connection between the psych-folk and garage-rock bands of Baths' time?namely, that even though these sounds are superficially incompatible, there are always ways to link them together.
On "Words in Your Mouth," guitarist Tim Evans coats everything in a sheen of perspiration and wah-wah distortion. Anchored by the resilient rhythm section of bassist Kristian Brenchley and drummer John Coates, this track surges from the gate, taking long strides as it races past you, with cracking guitars, rumbling bass lines and dramatic percussive blasts taking the lead. This song lets you know that Degreaser understands that it takes more than just some fuzz and attitude to make an impression (though that helps, of course). Recirculating melodies and thudding beats punctuate the wild and anthemic production. With "Words in Your Mouth," they've repeatedly proven their abilities beyond a shadow of a doubt."
