Go to Vittula. It's the best bar in town, and that's where everyone involved in garage/punk/experimental music seems to hang out. It's an awesome spot and the people are friendly. It's definitely a locals spot and not a tourist hangout. If you wanna get high, shouldn't be too much of a problem there either if yer cool about it.

Budapest was probably my favorite city in Europe. It reminded me in some key ways of the midwest. People love to party there, and shit gets silly and sloppy and it's fun as fuck. Also just met tons of really smart, sharp weirdos there. I went record shopping, but I was only looking for Hungarian punk/post-punk and it was hard to come by and I had a local with me to help me find shit and he even had some stuff set aside when I got there. I don't remember any of the spots, but someone at Vittula would be able to tell you where to go.

The bar I played at was Szabad az ?. It's in the cellar of the Grandio "party hostel" there. I got the impression this wasn't a cool place to hang out when there isn't a good show going on, though it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever played. It is a "ruin bar."

Just go to Vittula. That's really the spot. Don't be afraid to talk to people.

Hey K. Thanks for the advice. Wound up meeting some locals on the street and hung with them at some local bar, forget the name but I didn't hear any English besides mine, which was all I was looking for.

Pretty amazing up 'n coming city. Lots of new galleries and energetic young folks. Want to go back./

Appreciate!
