Well it depends on what you're looking for, apart from yourself.
FUN?
Both Milano and Torino, which are both beautiful and very much fun are really close to the Swiss border.
Torino in particular is a blast, couple of cool live clubs, great squats, experimental music/art spaces, and in a city that looks like a smaller version of Paris. It's fucking beautiful. Everybody's on shrooms. There's a huge open air thrift market every Saturday that looks like a North African Suk. http://siamosolonoiserecords.bandcamp.com/album/v-a-suk-tapes-and-sounds-from-porta-palazzo
Milano is more cynical, expensive and gentrified, lotsa people working in advertising, fashion, television... but still it's one of Italy's major cities so you can find anything you want: squats, record stores, beautiful wo/men, every band that comes to Italy goes through Milano. It's a beautiful city but in a less obvious way than Torino, you gotta look harder. Everybody's on coke.
QUIET?
Every other place in Northern Italy. It's just chock full of little sleepy towns on the mountains (you have to see the Alps, seriously, just google whatever, Dolomites, Mont Blanc... they're gonna blow your mind) or, if you just go south past Torino and Milano, you'll find yourself in one of Europe's biggest lowlands. 'Tis all fields and small university towns and one big river that goes through. That's where I live.
Just PM me if you want to know anything specific. Like, for example, Pere Ubu are passing through Italy in February, that's cool. But I can't think of any other special February event, just ask me later.
