Any stores worth checking out in Eire? Gonna be there for a week starting Monday. Any shows?

Freebird Records in Dublin is a good starter point. Theres a few small shops.. Spindizzy and Elastic Witch and City Discs (not sure if the last one is still going) for some gigs:

in Dublin - usually good gigs on in Whelans, the Lower Deck (BeloBar), Grand Social, Workmans. possibly Seomra Spraoi.
Camden Street is full of charity shops. Some BYOB places - more intimate and interesting shows - ask in Freebird or Block T. Cobblestone in Smithfield for folk/ trad/ bluegrass/ americana (great spot....).
Wingnut records in Galway. Don't know much about Galway. Always raining there, and full of hippies.
Cork!
Plugd Records - good shop..good for info etc..
Bradleys , Crane Lane (free gigs most nights) , Cork Community Printshop for gigs (Distro / small store & Silkscreens at the latter too). The English Market for checking out gig posters.
don't know of anything offhand but a Dublin band called Lynched are tearing up the trad/punk spirited folk/ drone blueprint.
*definitely try and see them if you can* well worth a journey up the country to catch 'em. like the imaginary meeting point of Strapping Fieldhands/ Dubliners/ Planxty channeling Lovecraft &recording for Crass' label. http://lynchedmusic.com/gigs/
If you see these names on posters then they are likely interesting: Wizards of Firefop Mountain, Gaz Le Rock (Moutpiece / Retarded Cop), Raising Holy Sparks, Jinx Lennon, Deserted Village. Popical Island, Spook of Thirteenth Lock, Katie Kim, Altered Hours. look em up .. they might have tips closer the time.
The wall outside Cornucopia vegetarian restaurant in Dublin is great for gig posters, as is Georges Street Arcade & Freebird (all are close by each other).
A magazine called Totally Dublin for tips and quirky shit and gigs and food and events. (free magazine from pubs)
I'm putting on a house show for an American singer called Robert Blake but that's later in feb (thurs 26 Kinsale). Hope some of that helps..

Rural Savage's another cool irish band. A couple of friends met 'em a few years ago and said they're very fun people.

If you're into metal check out Into The Void records in Dublin. Ireland likes its metal.

Friday Feb 6th at Workman's Club:
Dott (GraveFace), So Cow (Goner), Windings, Me and My Dog, Swimmers.
Weezer tribute, each band plays 2 songs each from Blue and Pinkerton.
DOTT and and So Cow are both fantastic. Windings are pretty good, too. This is one I wish I was in Dublin for.

Cool, I'm in Dublin so will probably head to that tribute night. Yeah.. seconded about Rural Savage, Me & My Dog & So Cow. I reckon Retarded Cop / Moutpiece would go down very well with any Termbo heads.. worth tracking down their recordings/ & generally discovering the mad world of Gaz/ ElectricGarryland!

Thanks a bunch, pissed we are heading West on Friday, love So Cow!
