January: Tunnels/Bird Costumes
Helllllllllllloooooooooo o 2007! (shh..) I've been tinkering in my garage with my time machine, but unfortunetly I wasn't able to go to the future to January 2K7. But luckily, now it is so I don't hafta wait anymore. The first 3" is a good one to start out with...sort of spooky...like G. Ford's sudden death.. I didn't notice this when I planned the split, but both bands are from Portland, OR. It makes sense, though, that both bands go well together, they've shared bands in the past. Bird Costumes start off the three inch with a very mysterious..sort of a foggy sound. After that Tunnels calm things down a bit. THEN IT ENDS! BUY NOW!
(To get this you subscribe to a series and get one 3" cdr a month for 9 months. Two bands per 3". More info at www.dntrecords.com)

Ordered mine.
I was surprised the last time that Family Underground came up in a TB board conversation, and it seemed like a few of you were into them. Well, if you're a fan of that, you will very likely be a fan of these bands.
Tunnels is the solo work of Nick who has been in some awesome bands like Counterfeit Monsters (best Saccharine Trust cover I ever heard), Alarmist, Hustler White, and others. He always has the most singular voice of any band member in his various bands. Dude is amazing like that. For Tunnels, he's layering a lot of sweet sounds of bells and bowls and other subtle noisemakers to psychedelic effect, alternately chilling, haunting, and enthralling. There may be a lot bearded chin-strokers making a bad name for this stuff right about now, but Tunnels is 99th percentile for this lot.
Bird Costumes is Daniel formerly of Hustler White and now guitarist in the bossriffing Me Con. It sounds different each time I hear it, but always like it should have come outta New Zealand 15 years ago to make a mindmelting record on Majora or something, and each release keeps getting better.
