Tears / Catholic Boys / Resinators / XX Smut live @ Mike and Molly's in Champaign, IL on 1/1/0/04
Notes:
I set up this show and had a lot of fun. Tears were staying at my place in Normal and drove over from Cincinnati late the night before. Casey, Nick, and I spent most of the afternoon of the show watching Rolling Stones bootleg live videos while the girls chilled in the guest room of my place. Early evening we drove the 40 minutes to Champaign, got some Mexican food nearby, and went to Mike and Molly's to hang out.
XXX Smut started off the show with their trademarked brand of "Smutrock" and tore through a good set. Killer cover of I Am a Problem by BloNO hardcore legends Naked Hippy. I forgot Smut covered I Say Fuck at one point too. Resinators were next and this must have been early in the Dallas era because Mick introduces her as a new memeber of the band at one point. Loud and loose and always on point.
We wre not sure the Catholic Boys were even showing up, so they were not even on the flyer. They ended up making it and bringing a healthy sized squar from Milwaukee and Chicago. Made the show more of a party atmosphere. It was Paul Reject's 21st birthday and at least some of the band had been drinking Sparks all day. I thought it was one of the more fun "bad sets" i had ever seen, but some people I knew asked me after the show why I liked that band so much. Probably more fun to watch them stumble around than listen to, but I liked it and maybe you will too.
Tears were great. Lots of new songs and everyone seemed to really have fun during their set. Maybe Nick can chime in with a few of the unreleased stuff on here. They were always a great live band. After the show a caravan of cars drove the 40 minutes back to Normal and my place. People sleeping all over the place the next day. Good times.
