ANOTHER LIVE SHOW TO LISTEN TO!!
Gris Gris at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago,IL
and
Dutch Masters / Busy SIgnals at Cal's in Chicago, IL
4/16/2005
Alright, so I have been using this extra time at home to sort, transfer, and catalog my live concert recordings. Here is a local show that a feel some would like to hear/have. Some of you may still have a disc Jeff or I gave you back in the day, others may have once had and since lost that disc. Here is a fresh transfer for anyone who wants.
My buddy Jeff "Waterfall" Wilson and I went to Chicago to see Eric Oblivian's new band the Dutch Masters. They were great. All the Dutch Masters classics and an Oblivians cover and song that eventually went to the Black and Whites in the set to boot. The music sounds great, but the vocals were non-existent in the PA. So what you hear on the recording is how it sounded at Cal's.
An added bonus was our BloNo ex-pat friend Eric Lastname's new band was playing as well. This was the first time I ever saw them and easily the best show I saw. A little faster and more energy on this one. This might even have been one of their first shows ever?
Headache CIty was supposed to headline the Cal's show for a record release, but Todd Novak told Jeff and I about a cool show going on across town and could we give him a ride to it. We said sure because it sounded interesting. So, we all pile into my car (one other person might have gone with us too, but I don't remember) and we headed to the Beat Kitchen.
There I had my mind blown by this band I had only heard of called the Gris Gris. This recording is absolutely amazing and anyone even remotely into the Gris Gris should at least listen to it. Killer stuff. There is some distortion on a song near the end of the set, but that was through the PA as they were loud as fuck.
As always, there is a download option if you hit the MORE button, and the show as one long track will be downloadable. Enjoy.

Morlocks? Me thinks. The live show I saw during this time has to be one of my favourite shows I’ve seen.

2000-2005 will be remembered as a really great time period, IMO. Not only were there great TB type bands that people like us knew about, but even the mainstream culture was being injected by The Hives, Vines, White Stripes, etc. It was a great time period just to be an early 20-something. When I talk to young kids now, they sound miserable. People were really having a great time back then, really living it up. Some of the best years of my life.

might not include the vines in that list
