From the archive coordinator:

We're in the second to last week of our fundraising campaign. Thanks to the generosity of MRR readers and supporters, we crushed our initial goal, but we'd love to make it to $25,000 to ensure the long-term sustainability of the archive project and buy technology to expedite the process.

We smashed the goal in less than two days but we're still raising money cause this thing is a fucking monster. Information about that here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/maximum-rocknroll-archive-and-database/x/153084#/updates

We gotta have a bar code to sell in a big chain stores whatever. I picked up my first issue in the Barnes & Noble in Bethesda MD in the early 2000s so I think it's important to have them in big stores like that. It doesn't impact anything else about the way we operate.

All the contemporary controversies I can think of are too hot for print.

Going to try and get back in the habit of posting the new issues here... #397 started shipping yesterday and features a pretty crucial interview with JUST the Dumpers, no Lumpy, which will certainly be of interest to any fans of the group. Pretty sure it's by far the most in-depth conversation with them out there. Lots of other worthwhile stuff in there: Hattiesburg Scene Report, Lime Crush, Concealed Blade, Newtown Neurotics, etc etc. Get it here: http://store.maximumrocknroll.com

This is really cool stuff!

Most of you can't read shit about this one but my friends did the same for old finnish punk (and related) zines from 77-82 last year (and some issues around that period) and now archiving newer zines and old finnish punk 7"'s too. The zines are available here: http://oranssi.net/pienlehdet/lehdet.html for your enjoyment as PDF files.

Yeah! We had an interview about that Finnish project in MRR #396, which was my best issue yet, if I do say so myself.

Hey -- glad to know that people are excited.

Every single issue is going to be digitized as a searchable, meta-tagged PDF. That technology isn't super precise though, so we're also building a separate database of all of the record and CD reviews (and tape reviews up until we split them out in the demo section -- that will come later). You'll be able to search by reviewer, country, label, issue, if it appeared on a top ten, etc etc etc. If you wanna read every review Mitch has ever written at once, you'll be able to do that. It's going to be incredible. We're also scanning all of the handmade cover art that Tim Yo made, all the demo tape covers and inserts that we have in the vault (some FUCKED UP COOL stuff), and a lot of the correspondence we have on file. Radio shows from the 80s and 90s will also eventually be uploaded (lots of them have interviews with bands on them that are amazing).

We are pretty floored by the support that we have so far, so I think we are gonna up the goal. It's really important that we do this RIGHT the first time around. All the money goes directly to this project -- the magazine is self-sustaining and semi-profitable at this point but we're not flush enough to fund this alone.

What did Brace say? "This will make Kill From the Heart look like Razorcake."  ;)
