i think this may have come out in 2008 but the Sewn Leather "I Live Like This Cuz I Like It" 12" LP is my favorite... i downloaded some other version of the album online after getting the 12" at the show which was called "Danse is Dead"

the sewn leather tape on night people is okay and does have the song "social life" from the other album but isn't as good as the former ones I mentioned

Music Shit / Re: institutionalized musicians

Nick Blinko?

I thought he was just on meds, not institutionalized.

He was institutionalized in the 80s and maybe early 90s for a brief periods when he refused to take his medication because it interfered with his artwork (drawing/painting).

If you read reviews of The Primal Screamer you can find some information about this, although it is hard to say which of this information is authoritative.

Music Shit / Re: Let's Intellectualize Black Metal

haha H. Hunt-Hendrix told me a"bout how he was going to be reading a paper at a black metal symposium, but I never thought I would be reading about it in the NYT.

This exchange is pretty funny to me

During a Q. and A. period Mr. Hunt-Hendrix was challenged by Scott Wilson, a professor from Lancaster University, who, like Mr. Scott, had traveled from England to attend the conference. Mr. Wilson wondered, skeptically, if transcendentalist black metal just boiled down to ?all you need is love.?

?I?m not so interested in defending anything I say,? Mr. Hunt-Hendrix replied. ?I only like to be judged on whether it?s interesting or not.?

Hunt-Hendrix is pretty young and just out of college I think, so I think he probably gave the best response he could to those brits who probably just wanted to tear him a new one really badly.

Music Shit / Re: Liturgy

i like liturgy. i know the drummer from having played shows with his like 100 other bands. i did a show for them in philly to kick off their tour and they were awesome in my opinion.

there were some people who were talking shit because they weren't dressed in gauntlets with facepaint and blood. other people thought they "could have at least worn all black or at least some black with other dark colors like navy blue" and shit like that.

Music Shit / Re: How cool is Jim V. from the ronnies?????

i don't know jim but i know kyle and reaser and they rule so i assume jim must rule too.

my friend just recorded the new FNU record in his basement and he played me the unmixed version in the car on the way back from ny. i think it rules. i recognized some versions of older songs like "valley of the wastoids" and some other one. last time i talked to reaser he was in the process of mixing it. i hope that shit comes out on 12 inch.

Music Shit / Re: Dead Kennedys

jello biafra is such an obnoxious twit. i remember i was in high school and i heard some spoken word album of his and i tried to repeat the arguments as if they were my own in some debate forum. i was called the biggest idiot in the world, deservedly so.

dead kennedys were one of the best bands around but jello has gotten so much worse as the years have gone on. it god his politics are so fucking predictable at this point, what is the point of voicing them?

that said i love dead kennedys, they fucking rule.

man. screeching weasel were okay, i had a few of their albums in high school, but i always i felt like a lot of their popularity outside of whatever original following they had came from association, like with lookout and like when mike dirnt wore a screeching weasel shirt at woodstock 94. it is okay basic pop punk but as was posted earlier other bands like the queers and the high fives were much better. ben weasel's vocals were obnoxious, but i suppose that was the point i guess.

what about this though? does anyone else know about how ben weasel had a radio show with espn? i don't want to get political in the slightest but i think it is totally weird how ben weasel was like the whole spearheader of the "punks for mccain" movement. dude from the vindictives has some blog as a wtf to the new ben weasel republican thing.

also i read that screeching weasel was going to be playing some reunion shows and that jughead found out about them from the internet and was never contacted.

Pop Punk / Re: Chixdiggit
« on: August 30, 2009, 12:54:12 AM »
i saw this band played in like 1998 or something. they suck so bad. they were signed to sub pop a long time ago but then the old owner split i think, then apparently the new people with sub pop who had to deal with them hated them and let them know it. there is some interview with chixdiggit where they talk about this debacle then speculate that sub pop must not like "rock" anymore.

i forget who the hell they were touring with, maybe the muffs or something. they are up there with jeff ott for worst band

I recently got

Sewn Leather "I like it because I live here" LP
and Angels of America "Cunt Tree Grammar" cs

Both rule in different ways. I'd say people on here might dig both. Angels of America is kind of like Blatz but way better. More feedback weirdness going on with both spookier and heavier guitar parts and more interesting vocals.

Sewn Leather is definitely a band to see live. Dude completely freaks out at the next level. I've heard some mp3s before I got this LP and was not impressed, but this LP does him justice. It's electronic/industrial beats with some noise and for lack of a better description, completely ridiculous vocals. "Does you leather jacket make you feel tough? Do you feel tough in your leather Jacket" repeated like 4 times in a row, to the point where it is almost comical but dude means it. It's totally awesome.
