Music Shit / Re: Hello Africa
« on: December 19, 2015, 08:23:02 AM »This is even more broad than looking for American music, but here goes:
I've been really into the Lijadu Sisters lately, especially their album Danger. Minimal funky rhythms that remind me ESG (yet don't really actually sound like ESG), fuzzed-out guitar leads, chintzy sounding organ, and awesome dual harmony vocals.

Konono No. 1's distorted thumb pianos sound pretty otherworldly. There's a whole slew of wild, raw thumb piano stuff out there, including a couple more volumes of the Congotronics series that introduced Konono No. 1 (the second one is various artists and the third one is the Kasai Allstars, all worth hearing). On the more minimal, stripped-down end of the spectrum, SK Kakraba's Songs of Paapieye LP is really good. If you want something even more far-out, check out the Shangaan Electro: New Wave Dance Music From South Africa comp.

Multi-instrumentalist (including thumb piano again) Francis Bebey's stuff is rather hypnotic and psychedelic without being "psych"

William Onyeabor is funky as hell

I could keep going, but I gotta get back to work.
Check out the Awesome Tapes From Africa label and blog. Shit's endless.
I know its broad, but I tried to narrow it down a little
Im in the beginning of learning the difference between different countries and genres. Or rather finding the stuff I like, Im no Alan Lomax. Thanks for the tips, I?ll check it out.
