Yeah he was also in Grave New World (sort of sounds like Amebix meets Hawkwind) and more recently in 解剖室 (Kaiboushitsu) who put out a great album last year.

Those Exciter and Satan LPs are both perfect.

GASMASK TERROR

NEW 12" OUT NOW!

11 new tracks of angry, raw and brutal riff/d-beat driven hardcore punk with a rocking edge and political lyrics - think Totalitar, Discharge, maybe a little Darkthrone in the vocal department.

LISTEN (MP3): "No Mistake"

Review by Robert Collins in MRR #332:

GASMASK TERROR - "Black Sun/Fake Gold" LP
The second French raw hardcore record in my hands this month ? I guess my bribes to the bosses are starting to pay off! GASMASK TERROR dishes out eleven songs of pure, distorted, high-end punk fukkn rock without any of the trappings that might turn you off to the current wave of noise punkers taking over the streets with their mysterious shoestring headbands. This shit here don't need echo-drenched vocals to do the trick; GASMASK TERROR lets their Swedish riffs and garbage-can snare drum do the talking, and then peak the mix with high-end crunch on the guitars competing with a white cymbal wash and extra skull-shattering attitude from the singer. They frequently slow the pace to a steady fist-banging tempo and let the songs really shine ? everything here will get stuck in your head for days... and don't even get me started on the solos (there aren't many, but they are perfect). Love it.

Shin (of FRAMTID) sells grave new world belt buckles

I'd totally wear one of those.

I don't think I've ever managed to listen to GNW in its entirety in one sitting, but I still love this terrible record. With different vocals, I would probably listen to it a lot. Dissober from Sweden recorded a cover of "Grave New World" in the old Discharge style, which sounds pretty cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phz0c8UzvaA

I like those skateboard shelves!

Love these too, and I'm considering stealing the idea!

Adolescents by a long shot. Then Rikk Agnew's "All By Myself". Then DI.

Initial State - First press of the LP has "runout groove/matrix" messages etched in between each song.

The Imperialist Pigs (pre-Poison Idea band) - 7" has two separate grooves/songs running on the whole length of side B. Depending on where your needle drops, you get a different song.

Dropdead - one side plays backwards on the 2nd LP.

Crispus Attucks - One bonus song (not mentioned on the cover) plays backwards at the end of a side of one of their LPs. Well I think it's that band?...

Earlier this week? Saw 'em April 14th in Amsterdam at OCCII, great show with killer early DRI-style tunes. Guess it takes balls to sing about 'marriage is prostitution' in a muslim country. Excellent 7" by the way.

Yep, saw them on the 19th.

Demokhartia - Bled El Petrole Takoul Lekhra

The first hardcore band to ever come out of Algeria! My band played with them earlier this week... super nice guys.

The first Obliteration EP sounded like Driller Killer to me. That's the reason why I never cared to check out the second one.

Lastly, totally random presence of '90s Japcore also-ran EP (I dimly recall that this might be called BENITSU BAKI, but that's probably wrong*) was way too unlikely to pass up.

It's Beni Tsubaki... I really like this 7". I'm still looking for the double split 7" they did with some band whose name I can't recall.

Records I'm looking forward to in 2010:

KNUSTE RUTER - LP. Kafka Prosess/Stengte D?rer-style norwegian HC. Their 7" was the most overlooked rager of 2009 IMO.
VAASKA - whatever new record comes out. The 12" has great songs, but I hate the way it was mastered, too much low end ruins it for me.
DESKONOCIDOS - LP

Can't wait to get the new Her?tys, Kieltolaki, Systematic Death and Complications LPs in the mail. Curious to hear the Alliance LP on HG Fact too.

Fingers crossed for new Selfish, Deathcharge, Tragedy, Destino Final, Framtid, and Criminal Damage records.
