Music Shit / Re: Best tour band you saw this year so far

Criminal Damage in NYC - saw em twice, one at a bigger club, another at a tiny bar in brooklyn, both were great for different reasons.

Govt Warning - always great live, seen em a couple times this year, the best probably being in brooklyn w/ fucked up and social circkle.

Music Shit / Re: label completism

Painkiller records. this label has had no dissappointments thus far. some of my favorite releases/bands are on the label (inmates, darvocets, mind eraser, etc) almost 20 releases in and they are still putting out hit after hit. there is some stuff i dont like too much (get down 7", prowl 7") bbut for the most part, top notch. not to mention the future...new breathing fire lp, walls 12", new dry rot 7", etc

no way was great for a while, but i definetly cant buy their shit blindly anymore. that warkrime 7" kinda blows, the 2nd NOBS besides one or two songs is pretty weak. of course most of the label is great, but recently, ive been a little bummed on their shit. i didnt buy the DLA 7" yet, but the DBL NEG. lp is fucking killer.

other honorable mentions: feral ward, non commercial, parts unknown

Music Shit / Re: Sabbath v Hawkwind
« on: June 16, 2007, 12:24:13 PM »
Everybody needs to read the Lemmy "auto"-biography, "White Line Fever".   It's ridiculous, the Hawkwind stuff is probably the MOST out of hand drug abuse I've ever read about by a band; and that's saying something.   It makes the Motorhead years seem tame in comparison.

I had gotten pretty bored with stories of band drug consumption,("We were SOOOO fucked up, man!"), but Lemmy, he made it new again.  I wish I had it on hand so I could quote some of it.

"We were backstage and we had just taken about a dozen black beauty's each.  We chased them with a fifth of Jack Daniels and some weed.  It was getting close to stage time and we realized that we needed to get up some to play, so we each ate a handfull of speed.   I got out onstage and I couldn't even move.   That was the night we recorded Space Ritual"

Or something like that...

HOLY SHIT. i need to read this. can i find this in regular book stores?

check out double negative. LP just came out on No Way recs. sounds like mid era COC with weird vocals that at times sound a hell of a lot like rollins, probably not intentionally, but its cool.

GREAT RECORD. pick it up. beyond bummed that they cancelled any NY/brooklyn shows.

Music Shit / Re: The Vicious - how are they live?
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:57:09 PM »
regarding Regulations, saw em twice on tour. 1st show in ny w/career suicide was easily one of the best shows of 2005. place was fucking packed (sold out) in the basement of this shitty club w/ like 130 people. they completely killed and peope went bat shit.  saw them a few days later in new jersey and it was pretty empty (monday night) and lackluster. they played good and all but it was lacking.  so i dont know, i guess it depends when ya saw them, if my only experience was NJ id be bummed...

He has a good variety of things. i mean, of course he's gonna have run of the mill crap, a lot of forgettable d-beat+crust bands, etc but id be surprised if someone cant find 2-3 records they want in his distro.

i havent seen Vicious yet, im gonna catch them twice next week in ny and nj hopefully. the good reviews are a plus. should be fun.

i think the 7" on feral ward is my favorite stuff. sometimes the lp, while i like the songs, drags on a little bit. everything is cool though..

Music Shit / Re: new Clorox Girls record...
« on: April 06, 2007, 03:09:34 PM »
1st lp is a classic. 2nd one had some great songs on it and a couple forgettable ones. i like the 1st 7" a lot too, but i cant track down a copy. i kind of lost interest in tracking down all of this bands other stuff though. they've got at least 2 7"s, maybe some splits and apperently a new Lp that i wasnt even aware of.

went to philly, missed ydi but i heard it was laughable. i saw them a few years ago in new york w/ verbal abuse and it was fucking godawful. fucked up and govt warning were great though. also went to see FU and GW today in brooklyn. great show, tons of people for a matinee on a sunday. now im not drunk anymore, have a headache and its 10:30. lame...

Music Shit / Re: what is the most you've ever paid for a record?
« on: February 23, 2007, 09:56:42 AM »
$70 for dicks "kill from the heart" .totally worth it, as there isnt even another legit format of this record and its one of my all time favorite punk records ever. it was also money used from selling stupid doubles of records so it wasnt a real loss.
