The Subsonic Voices LP is now available for order at http://www.dullknifelabel.com

Ex-Balaclavas and Insect Warfare bringing the heavy, rhythm, and esoteric.  I've heard them described as Balaclavas on Blackest Ever Black. That could be very true for the song you can listen to on the site, but there are also some heavier, "proggier" and more industrial moments on the LP. I can hear some Killing Joke, Ministry, and Godflesh, and of course Balaclavas, whether they meant it or not.

Limited to 300.

Last remaining direct order copies of the Household 'Elaines' 12" still available as well.

After about a 6 week delay, the new dull knife releases are finally here and ready to ship.  This new batch features the return of the dull knife "Songwriter Series" with 7" releases from Daughn Gibson and Zachary Cale, as well as the debut 7" from Hamamatsu Tom.

Daughn Gibson has been gaining quite a bit of notoriety lately with the release of his LP "All Hell" on the White Denim label, as well as shows in NYC, Philly, and his performance as Chaos In Tejas.  Imagine an amalgamation of Lee Hazlewood, Magnetic Fields, and Scott Walker.  The A-side "Lite Me UP" is the jam of the summer, and is one of the finer songs to ever be released on this humble label.  The first 100 copies are hand-numbered and packaged in silk screened chipboard Arigato paks with 3 photo variations adhered on the back cover.  There are also 100 copies on grey marble vinyl in glue pocket 7" sleeves, and the remaining copies are on black in the same sleeves.

The second new entry in the "Songwriter Series" comes from Brooklyn's Zachary Cale.  You may know Zach from his previous band Illuminations, or his numerous solo releases.  His past solo releases are often melancholy, folky affairs that bring to mind Alex Chilton on Big Star's "Third/Sister Lovers", but this release finds Zach writing the soundtrack to your summer with a couple of bangers that have more in common with the Kinks and Bruce Springsteen.  Limited to 300 hand-numbered copies packaged in silk screened chipboard Arigato paks with 3 photos variations adhered to the back cover.

You've likely never heard of Hamamatsu Tom, but maybe you're familiar with  Tom's other bands The Energy, No Talk, or his stint in Insect Warfare.  Forget What you know.  Hamamatsu Tom is bluesy rock featuring some of Houston's finest shredders, and would fit in nicely on some label called Sub Pop circa 20 years ago.  Tom is joined here by Grandfather Child member Lucas Gorham, as well as former Fatal Flying Guilloteen drummer John Adams.  The B-Side is a cover of CSNY's "Almost Cut My Hair", which I dare declare better than the original.

As always, you can check out sound samples and order at http://www.dullknifelabel.com

Balaclavas offer up a new 4 song kick in the teeth in the form of a
12" EP just in time for tour.  'Second Sight' is a one-sided 12" with
a silk screened image on the b-side packaged inside a silk screened
picture disk sleeve. They look and sound amazing.  Check out the
packaging on the dull knife site.  You can stream the entire EP at

Dull Knife's limited run 100 press LP series that brought you the
Twinsistermoon 'Hollow Mountain' LP and the Balaclavas eponymous 12"
EP returns with the latest outing from Houston, TX's sIngs. sIngs is
the project of Brett Taylor, formerly of post rock band By The End of
Tonight. However, sIngs has little to nothing in common with Taylor's
previous band's work, instead it brings to mind the early work of The
Microphones and percussive elements of Coil. These will go quick.

Balaclavas are hitting the Midwest and East Coast starting next week.

Items, the debut from Brooklyn's HOUSEHOLD, is 9 songs of perfect, taut, agit-pop. The band combines the aesthetics of UK DIY and the heyday of the American indie underground, sharpening them to a point and bringing to mind bands such as Young Marble Giants, Slant 6, and contemporaries Grass Widow.

You can can pre-order the LP and listen to the track "Go Away" at http://www.dullknifelabel.com

The LP will include a coupon for free digital download

You can stream the entire album and purchase a digital copy at http://household.band.com

Direct orders should start shipping in a month, ahead of the offical street date.

KNIFE 07 Balaclavas - Snake People LP/CD/Digital

Dull Knife is risen.

Balaclavas are from Houston, Texas where everything is eternally blistered, chemically altered, and forlorn. They are a band in the realest sense- they come on like a gang, play with one mind, hunt in one pack, party and fight together in a flat wild nowhere. Unlike the common livestock being unloaded into music this is a band of predators. Perpetual outsiders; there will always be a wrong side of the tracks and they'll always be from it.

Roman Holiday was a paean to Caligulan excess; Snake People is a declaration of jihad. "Legs Control" comes in with a disorienting desert wind that claws at your ears. From the start, you are alone with them in an alien landscape.

There is something in the proliferation of forms that offends the thinking and feeling eye. Snake People gives voice to that eye. Forward seeing, clear in its intonation when it sends back the baby food being brought out on an unending succession of plates. Ennio Morricone and scratchy noise guitars on storm-dub rhythms like if the heaviest incarnation of 1970s Pink Floyd were a future punk band invested by Jodorowsky to score Dune. You can hear storms approaching and sandworms underfoot. Its an evil dance they're bringing.

Snake People shall be unveiled on the Eighteenth Day of October in the Year of Our Lord two thousand and eleven.  It will be made available by publisher Dull Knife on the phonographic record, compact disc, and digital mediums to ensure maximum compatibility with your playback device. You may review literature pertaining to your potential involvement and procure your pre-order at http://www.dullknifelabel.com .  Audio samples of "Legs Control" and "Hard Pose" are being disseminated at http://balaclavas.bandcamp.com .

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Balaclavas LP and Lamps 7" OUT NOW
« on: January 05, 2010, 07:24:41 AM »
Balaclavas "Roman Holiday" LP and Lamps "Niels Bohr" b/w "I've Been On a Lot of Camels" 7" should be ready to go out to all you young lovers on Valentine's Day.    these are two of my favorite releases to date.  the Balaclavas LP is a slayer, and the Lamps 7"s features what i think is their best song to date.

you can listen to two songs from the Balaclavas LP and one from the Lamps 7" at http://www.myspace.com/dullkniferecs

just finishing up the art for the Go-Betweens reissue over the next couple of weeks, then it goes off to press.

i have just a few of these left...

Second record in our 100 press(103, to be
exact in this instance) press record series, following the Twinsistermoon "Hollow Mountain" LP .

It's a reissue of sorts of the debut recording from Houston, TX's Balaclavas on 12". The recording was originally released three years ago on a handful of cd-r's given to friends and sold at a local store, later as a cassette, but finally gets an official release with this 12".

The band plays dark, melodic post punk with a strong Public Image
Ltd. and Can feel to the rhythm. Maybe you heard their incredible "Inferno" 12" EP on Phonographic Arts last year. The record also got some saxophone overdubs from Houston legend Ralph Armin of Culturcide, Really Red,and the Pain Teens (and the Rusted Shut strip club show, if you ever saw that).

The record is also meant as a teaser of sorts for the debut
Balaclavas LP, which dull knife will be releasing in a couple of
months. The new material is leaps and bounds above these early
recordings, but they are still excellent songs that needed to be
documented and I think you will like them. I'm really excited to have
the opportunity to work with another Houston band that I feel deserves
national recognition.

The record is $16.00 plus postage. I kept the price as low as I
could considering the extremely limited quantity--only 80 copies are
available to the public. You can listen to a sound sample and order it
here: http://www.dullkniferecords.com/releases/14-knife014 [www.dullkniferecords.com] ?

You can also listen to two tracks from the upcoming Balaclavas LP at

http://www.myspace.com/dullkniferecs [www.myspace.com] ?
