SOOOO very excited about our next batch of records.  3 of 4 tests have been approved. In stores on June 28th but will probably start mail order way sooner than that. If you're not already on the mailing list make it happen by going to www.troubleinmindrecs.co m

TIM027: Wax Museums "Eye Times" LP/CD
Wait, have the Wax Museums MATURED?!?!?! After a 3 year hiatus north TX?s lovable misfits (who share members with The Bad Sports and Mind Spiders) are back with a four-headed thirteen eyed monster of an album that while still slightly awkward, is undeniably focused and endearing.
?Eye Times? is a musical step forward with moments of glammy art-rockness that proves once and for all these clowns ain?t just one-joke jerks. ?Mosquito Enormo? swarms and stings with it?s way-out delay pedal induced chaos and ?Bruiser? proves the Wax Museums still just write killer punk anthems. The charming nerd-o aesthetic that was so prevalent on the early singles and first LP remain, but NOW with added sexual frustration, ?Breakfast for Dinner? just very well might be the Wax Museum?s ?Me So Horny?? or something. The first press of this LP is on randomly-mixed vinyl & includes a download code!
RIYL: Bad Sports, Cheap Time, Icky Boyfriends, Dickies, Devo

TIM028: The Night Beats "s/t" LP/CD
Any number of bands cite 60?s Texas psych as an influence, but rarely does a group actually capture what made those bands special. Following their debut EP also on Trouble In Mind, The Night Beats have expanded on the bedroom immediacy of their first recordings to create an LP that perfectly captures and modernizes the hallucinogenic and exhilaratingly demonic aura of bands like The 13th Floor Elevators and Golden Dawn. With blazing guitar work and a razor sharp rhythm section Danny Lee Blackwell and company mutate conventional chords & progressions into a mind-blowing sonic sprawl.  The record reels you in with 2-3 minute pop songs like ?Ain?t Dumbo? and ?Dial 666', forging a landscape that then throws you into a chaotic journey of jams a?la ?Dewayne?s Drone? and ?Little War in the Midwest? that bend and meander but never overstay their welcome. Tune in, turn on, & drop that needle on this record! The first press of this LP is on randomly-mixed vinyl & includes a download code!
RIYL: Thee Oh Sees, 13th Floor Elevators, Electric Prunes

TIM029: The Paperhead "Focus In On... The Looking Glass"  (limited LP reissue)
Trouble In Mind - er, we mean TIM Records is proud to present this limited vinyl reissue of psych-wunderkinds The Paperhead's debut cassette! Before they dosed the world with their vinyl debut earlier this year, these three teenage journeymen were known as The Looking Glass, & honed their chops playing extended jam-sessions at house parties & shows in their hometown Nashville scene. Originally released as a limited cassette by Infinity Cat, this recording is a "further-out" trip - a bit more experimental & free than their s/t debut, but no-less engaging. Psych-pop nuggets are peppered in between & on top of extended sonic explorations, creating their own musical vision filtered through the prism of greats like Pink Floyd, Blossom Toes & The Soft Machine. This "bootleg" edition is a one-time pressing of 500 copies on mixed vinyl, hand-numbered & is brought to you by TIM Records (a division of Trouble In Mind Records, LLC).
RIYL: Soft Machine, Pink Floyd, Dungen, Parson Sound

TIM030: Apache Dropout "Shot Down" b/w "Sister Burnout" 7-inch
This Bloomington, IN trio took just about everybody by surprise with their LP released earlier this year on Family Vineyard; a full-tilt, f'ed-up, psyched-out boogie-fied garage stomper filtered through the musical ghosts of bands both past & present, & we here at TiM HQ are pleased as punch to be releasing this two-song rager hot on the heels of that debut thrill-ride! "Shot Down" is a mutant Troggs stomp soaked in the sweat of John Lee Hooker & bops along like the bastard child of the Ohio Express & Sun Ra. The flipside - "Sister Burnout" is a barn-burning head-banger that ratchets up the intensity & sounds like an amphetamine-fueled sword fight between The Shadows Of Knight & The Deviants, with singer/guitarist Sonny Alexander testifying like a tweaked out Richard Hell. This is full-on sanctified-psych - drop the needle on the wax & become a believer! The first press of this 7-inch is on mixed vinyl, is housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve & includes a download code!
RIYL: The Troggs, UV Race, The Seeds, The Voidoids

Because we are feeling generous, if you are one of the first 100 people to order you may EITHER get all 4 singles OR all 4 singles plus the Liminanas LP or CD with free shipping (please see bottom of message for details.) We are expecting these to go pretty quickly so buy now or cry later.  We are having issues with the new site so if you are ordering more than one record but not everything email us and we'll give you a combined shipping quote. Below is a rundown of the 5 records we are sooo very excited about:

TIM017: The Wrong Words "What Went Wrong?" b/w "Tickin"
- We here at Trouble In Mind H.Q. are super excited to be able to release the debut of San Francisco's Wrong Words! Simultaneously introspective & triumphant, their electrifying brand of pop music reminds us at once of the ragged jangle of the Scruffs or Nick Lowe, but with the charged, emotive vocals of a young Andy Partridge - great guitar work, clever lyrics, & hooks, hooks, hooks galore! Heck - we love this band so much, be on the lookout for their debut LP on Trouble In Mind coming in spring 2011! The single comes housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, includes a download code, & the first press comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl.

TIM018: Personal & the Pizzas "I Want You" b/w "(Don't Trust No) Party Boy" - P & da P's are back and this time they're getting a little sensitive. NOT SOFT, no way, man... but a little more down to heart maybe... a little more PERSONAL...know whut I mean? The A-side "I Want You" is right up there with those great mid-tempo Ramones ballads - Is it about a girl or a pizza? Don't know, don't wanna know...all we know is it's one killer tune.  The B-Side, "(Don't Trust No) Party Boy" is a warning to all you out there that think that you can tame a "Party Boy"...well, It ain't happening and all you're gonna end up with is a big fat "I told you so."  Leave it to Personal to teach you all a lesson or two (or three?) The single comes housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, includes a download code, & the first press comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl.

TIM019: Wounded Lion "Pointed Sticks" b/w "Muppet Babies"
- So you think you know the glam rock, huh? Well, L.A.'s Wounded Lion are here to school you otherwise by serving up one killer mutant Gary Glitter (via Lamps) sludge glam masterpiece on this 7-inch! The A-Side, "Pointed Sticks" is no ode to the Canadian power poppers of the same name, but it's sure to stick in your head for days & get those club feet a'tappin'! The B-Side is a surreal exploration of the story of Oedipus via a forgotten Saturday morning gang... THE MUPPET BABIES.  We probably shouldn't say anymore other than the fact that this single is literally and figuratively two sides of one of the most creative bands going these days. The single comes housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, includes a download code, & the first press comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl.

TIM020: Vermillion Sands "20 Hours" b/w "The Last Day" - Treviso, Italy's Vermillion Sands sling a couple of tunes stateside to Trouble In Mind! Countrified but not country, unhinged but not sloppy, Vermillion Sands conjure up a manic, peyote-feuled trek across a dusty, spaghetti-westernized landscape. The two tracks on this single kick up dust in the faces of Ray Davies & Holly Golightly as singer Anna Barattin sneers her way around the band's driving drums & fuzzed-out guitars, leaving the listener thirsting for more as the vultures circle overhead! The single comes housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, includes a download code, & the first press comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl.

TIM021: The Limi?anas s/t LP/CD
- Trouble In Mind has officially moved into long players! We knew when we first heard The Limi?anas that we needed more and here it is, our first foray into LP's and we feel very privileged to give you the 12 song debut LP by Perpignan, France's The Limi?anas.
This LP picks right up where the singles left off and has a cinematic feel, with it's reoccurring themes, lyrics and instrumentals taking cues from influences like Gainsbourg?s great "Histoire de Melody Nelson" LP, as well as the 1960?s soundtracks they've become enamored with. Within the groovy and melancholy tracks, further listens (and a little quick translating) expose both the biographic and the fantastic in these songs.  Partly the fictional adventures of "Cold Princess" and partly a musical document of Lio and Marie?s reflections on love, loss, and new beginnings. Keeping one foot firmly planted in the sounds of the past, and one foot in the now sounds of today, The Limi?anas debut self-titled LP lives up to the promise they've made on their initial releases and then some! First pressing of 550 come on randomly mixed 150 gram vinyl with a download code.

Test presses have been approved and these summer jamz will be on sale in the next two weeks or so...

TIM013 - Hex Dispensers "One Less Ghost" b/w "I'm a Ghost"  Who else could fill the coveted release number 13 spot but the beloved Hex Dispensers? This ghoulish garage gang of musical maniacs switch it up this time around on this "ghost themed" single & offer up, of all things - a BALLAD?!?!  "One Less Ghost" brings the soft & the loud in an exciting ode to one's fears & anxieties, and marks a great leap forward for the band's sound! For those of you screaming "They've gone soft!" - fear not - these bat-winged behemoths haven't lost their edge! The B-side "I'm A Ghost" rips & roars thru a cover of fellow Texans (and fellow gore-hounds) Occult Detective Club!  As per usual, the first press of this single comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl, includes a download code, & is housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve!

TIM014 - Night Beats "H-Bomb EP"  Night Beats currently hail from Seattle but as two of the three members are originally from Texas, it's not hard to pick out the influence of golden age TX psych idols such as the 13th Floor Elevators and Golden Dawn. This 4 song EP will melt your brain with it's mixture of druggy backbeats and blazing guitar work peppered with vocals that channel a screeching, howling Marc Bolan.  They are fresh off of a slot at the Austin Psych Fest and we think you're going to be hearing a lot from these guys. As per usual, the first press of this single comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl, includes a download code, & is housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve!

TIM015 - Sticks N Stones "Is It You?" b/w "Telling The Truth"
This follow up to their debut single on Dusty Medical picks up where that hot slab o' wax leaves off - hitting you square in the gut with two stabs of sharp pop perfection! A veritable Milwaukee "super-group' of sorts featuring Paul Kalfahs and Jon Heibler from Catholic Boys, & Natalie Clark from the Tears (and all three from the Tuff Bananas!), Sticks N Stones keeps it lean & mean, slicing off riffs from 70's & 80's Power Pop (and a nick or two from classic 60's bubblegum) with rapid-fire intensity calling to mind such great Midwestern bands as Cheap Trick, Shoes, & the Kind. "Is It You" is a spastic spark of self-examination & "Telling The Truth" is a pounding plea for the listener's trust - it ain't no lie!
The single comes housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, & first press comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl, & includes a download code!

TIM016 - Tropical Sleep "(Hadita) Girl With A Diamond Tooth" b/w "Bury My Body"
Don't know what you were doing in the summer of '08 but we were listening to The Pets LP 'Misdirection' on repeat, so it's very exciting for us to release the debut single from Dan Wood of The Pets' new band "Tropical Sleep."  Tropical Sleep starts where the Pets left off - the same great vocal delivery and guitar work, but coaxes out a little more finesse & lotsa extra pop!  "(Hadita) Girl With A Diamond Tooth" is a stomping serenade to an orally bejewelled siren, while "Bury My Body" is a more laid-back love letter to someone close! As per usual, the first press of this single comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl, includes a download code, & is housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve!

When this batch officially goes on sale we will offer free shipping for the first 24 hours or 100 batches sold.  If you aren't already on the mailing list email: troubleinmindrecs(at)gmail.com and you'll be the first to know when we put them on sale.

Check out these stellar new releases!

TIM004: Charlie & The Moonhearts "Real Hot Breakers" b/w "My Love is Gone"
Just love these Orange County kooks and with this single Mikal, Roland and Charlie have outdone themselves.  "Real Hot Breakers" is one of our favorite songs this year... With the punk edge of their Wizard Mountain recordings this surf-inflected pop gem has 3-part harmonies & a chorus that'll melt your heart. This baby promises to stay in your head for days and will make you want to grab your surf board and hit the beach pronto!

TIM006: Wheels on Fire "Bad Lie" b/w "Come On Judy"
Wheels on Fire are a great band that have records out on Big Legal Mess and have been covered by the likes of The River City Tanlines. We're psyched to get to put out this single that has TWO really fucking great tracks. Take a little Elvis Costello, pair it with some Reigning Sound and a dash of Stones and you may start to get the picture but, you won't understand the badassness 'til you take a listen... or 25.

TIM007: Tyler Jon Tyler "New England Street" b/w "Faster Than Light"
We are proud to release the debut single by Chicago's own Tyler Jon Tyler.  We can assure you that no other band going sounds like TJT.  With a Pony that has traded his drums to play bass upside down, Tom from Daily Void's intricate drum patterns and "new comer" Rebecca's sparse guitar and thoughtful lyrics,  their skeletal "less-is-more" sound brings to mind bands like The Clean, Young Marble Giants, & maybe even the more introspective moments of the Minutemen. These songs evoke a time and a place and demand your attention. (Not too mention Ian Adams' Stylophone wizardry on the B-Side)

TIM008: Ty Segall "My Sunshine" b/w "Fuzzy Cat"
You may have heard Ty playing the excellent "My Sunshine" on his last tour and this track has the wunderkind getting in touch with his grunge-side (and we mean that in the most awesome way possible.) The B-Side "Fuzzy Cat" is a song with a secret (shh! we've said too much already) that indulges Segall's 'Anglo-philic' tendencies, channeling Roy Wood or Ray Davies' mad pop sensibilities thru his own hazy, reverb-drenched filter!
14
Our next batch should be ready to go in about 2 weeks.  4 more great singles!  Stay tuned for another "special" Heap O' Trouble offer!
