Cities / Re: The Worst People
« on: January 03, 2010, 08:08:42 PM »
Never been there but Indianapolis always just seemed like a shithole to me.

Indianapolis is terrible.
Indy is the worst city I've lived in. I've been here a year and it's been literally the worst year of my life....thankfully I'm moving to Brussels in 10 days!!
As for the worst people, I've always wondered why 99% of australian expats I've met in Europe were total douches when the ones I've met in the States were nice.

The one thing that works the best for me , as far as preventative medicine goes, is Symbicort. I've tried Advair and that was alright too (more expensive though), but when my insurance ran out I definitely couldn't afford it. Proventil kinda sucks but it's the cheapest drug if you're uninsured. Also I believe Symbicort as a program you can enroll in that gives you access to a certain number of cheap refills per year. But since you have insurance, you shouldn't have to worry about that, unless they decide to be assholes.

Cities / Re: Chicago
« on: September 27, 2009, 06:03:03 PM »
Of all the places I lived in in Chicago, I liked the Tri Taylor area best. Rent was fairly cheap, a bit more expensive than in Pilsen (even though things have probably changed since all those condos were built) but cheaper than Bucktown/Logan Square. It's basically the west side of Litlle Italy and it is a pretty neighborhood (lots of old row houses) and really family friendly. It's a pretty diverse neighborhood and people are really welcoming, it feels like a small town within the city almost. It's also right by the Medical District so you could easily walk to work, it's close to downtown, and the Empty Bottle and Permanent Records aren't too far either. Some people will warn you about its proximity to Lawndale but I always felt a lot safer than in Logan Square or Pilsen ...
And when it comes to choosing btwn Indy and Chicago, as much as I'd love to meet more like minded people who are parents,  Indianapolis is pretty depressing.

My Friend Jerry told me about this the other day. He used to make a comics zine with that guy a long time ago and received these out of the blue too. He told me about some of the material in it and it seems funny, at least some of it...

I'll definitely try to make it to Bloomington for some of these shows; if I find the energy to drive there and back that is.

Inka, your best solution would probably be to tour Europe during spring break. Fall and spring are the best times to play in Europe, imo. Summer is a pretty bad idea since a lot of venues close, Italy being the worst country for this. And even if you get to find places to play you might not get a big crowd, the few shows I've done back home in July and August have been pretty poorly attended.

I always thought I'd be a student for life: I majored in English in France, studied film for a bit, went to grad school for French literature in the States, I didn't complete my MA though.. for now I haven't been in school for 4 years, I really miss it though, I'll probably look into night classes to get my teacher certification once I don't have to be a parent 24/7 (I'm what you might call a house husband).

Wait, Twinsistermoon are dudes?  I'm not buyin'.  Who's the girl in the book then?  I was goin' along thinking she was the voice of the operation.
Twinsistermoon is one dude named Mehdi; I'm guessing the girl in the booklet is Solange (his gf) who plays with him in Natural Snow Buildings.

As for Odland some of those lyrics could definitely go in the "most prententious lyrics" thread. The music is alright but a bit gimmicky , definitely not in the same league as El-g though.
