Review from Still-Single:

RECOMMENDED
Two more from this dystopian Melbourne sci-fi no-wave band, and stacked up against something like that Savoy Motel record, which feels like something that was put to experimentation and committee, winnowed down from a studio filled with ideas, Brando?s Island approach their sound out of both challenge and necessity. As with their first one, they don?t make it easy on themselves, pulling their presence out of lead vibraphone, synth, drums and vocals, all stringed instruments and accoutrements pawned for want of a greater truth. The way vocalist Richard Costa casually turns the lyric ?see you in 500 years? on ?Cryo Capers? should tell you all you need to know about where this classy, obtuse outfit is headed; statements of menacing solution to pesky problems like life, backed by force. Only drawback to this one is with their get-up, some of the surprise of their approach that set aflame their first single has burned up, but if you liked that one, you?ll like this one, as it pounds in a slightly more ominous direction, but pounds all the same. For those inhabiting the lucky country, 7" lunch is on the 24th of October.

Like something straight off the set of New Wave Theatre, Brando's Island are a mutant-punk four-piece with members spread across Melbourne and Newcastle, Australia. Their debut 7" released on vocalist, Richard Costa's, Million Dollar Records imprint earlier in the year will go down as one of 2015's highlights for me. So it is with great pleasure that I present these two tracks of deranged antipodean weirdness. The folks involved in Brando's have previously done time in some of the best groups Australia has offered over the last few years; Velvet Whip, The Zingers, Chrome Dome, Pathetic Human, Flat Fix, Soma Coma, the list goes on. While this previous output gives you a vague idea of the eclecticism of BI's collective taste, nothing can prepare you for the unique sound produced by them. Vibraphone, synth, drums, vocals. The New Wave is here.

Records shipping soon. US distribution through Feel It and Little Big Chief Records. Aussie distro through Distort / Altered States direct.

"angst in my pants" is the best 80s one.  Their SNL appearance for that record was amazing, too, its an episode Danny Devito hosted.  Wish NBC would stop taking the clips now

those live clips of mickey mouse and i predict are even better than the album recordings i reckon. i was devastated when they got taken down. devito's shuffle after introducing them is all-time too.

Brando's 7" is the best of the year so far in my opinion, second 7" being pressed at the moment.

Thought this might be of interest to some people here. It carries a hefty price tag, but well worth it when you consider how scarce most of these are. Pretty much worth it for the Black Diamonds 7" alone.

Oh yeah, it's a split release on Juvi and RIP. I believe it's the same one that recently got repressed by Anti-Fade, so that's probably a more accessible option for seppos.
