Used Records For Sale/Auctions/Wantlists / WTB some common stock
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:26:41 AM »
Split up with my ex a few years back. Got a good portion of my records on the initial departure. However, there is a small lot that I have been trying to get back for about two years now. It doesn't appear this is ever going to happen. I made a list of what I can remember.

I am looking to re-buy some of my previously owned records. I am putting the list on here with one purpose—to hopefully get multiple items in one scoop. Nothing on here is rare and it can probably all be obtained on Discogs or whatever. However, since some are of similar style and sometimes off the same label or same band but different albums, I thought my chances of scooping a lot on a deal might be better on here.

Here's a partial list of what I can recall. Hit me up with any offers.
Thanks

Non-Music Shit / Record cleaning machines
« on: September 14, 2017, 04:58:36 PM »
VPI, Nitty Gritty ect... any advice? I recently came into a position where I could possibly afford something like this. Been reading reviews online. Thought I would get some thoughts from people here.

I'm not a record store owner, just a collector—thrift store/ garage sale rat. I take pretty good care of my records, 90% probably don't need this, but I grab a lot of crap, as I'm sure we all do. Plus I'd probably just start cleaning everything, including friends' records if I had one. Part of me thinks that if I am gonna spend 3-400 dollars, why not 600... where's the cut off? What is good enough?

 Any tips would be appreciated.

Non-Music Shit / Pick Your King (Diamond)
« on: May 26, 2017, 10:05:13 AM »
There was a post-image on here, maybe about a year ago—it was the cover of "Pick Your King" ep but instead of Jesus/ Elvis it was King Diamond. Been trying to find that image on here or the internet and haven't had any luck. Anybody remember the thread this image was in?

Music Shit / Danny Barnes "Losing It" ?
« on: December 17, 2016, 04:25:39 PM »
I was in a hippie store getting stuff for my girlfriend and this song was piped through the speakers. I asked the clerk what was playing and was told that it's "Danny Barnes" and the song is "Losing It".  It was heavy, like a  Pentagram or Groundhogs type of song. I can't seem to locate this on the internet. Is anybody familiar?

The deadhead clerk seemed confused as to why I was asking about the song—or maybe he was really high, not sure. But, I feel there is a chance he may have given me some bad information.

Non-Music Shit / Pokemon App
« on: July 14, 2016, 08:15:26 AM »
How many people here are using this?

I live across the street from a gas station, where apparently you can catch an item for this app. I frequently sit on my porch and watch the craziness at the gas station. This past week, I have seen so many near fatalities because of someone walking down the street with their face in their phone not paying attention to where they are walking. This is a constant thing. I can sit out there for five minutes and I am guaranteed to see somebody coming to the area specifically for the Pokemon item they are trying to catch.

Cell phones have been a distraction for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, friend hang outs etc for a a long time now, but this is unlike anything I have seen in recent years.

Last night I walked to the park near me. Usually deserted at the time of night I was there. There were at least 30 people out last night, all with their phones out looking for these items. It was very surreal.

I am not down on people playing this game. Some friends of mine have it. However, like anything else...such as texting, you need to use some common sense.

It could be where I am living, but this Pokemon app seems to have set off like a wild fire. I see people everywhere playing it. It is obvious, the way they are holding their phones (I think you have to point at the item and do some button pushing) and not paying attention to their surroundings. I cannot think of another phenomenon that I have witnessed to compare this to.

Music Shit / Suicide Is Painless Mike Altman/ Johnny Mandel
« on: December 30, 2015, 01:58:14 PM »
This song recently popped in my head. I've never paid much attention to it, outside of it being the theme song for the M.A.S.H. film/ tv-show. I've always like the lyrics which were written by Mike Altman (apparently at the age of 14 according to Wikipedia). I haven't been able to find out much else about him besides he wrote the lyrics to this song. Did he do or write other interesting stuff?

Johnny Mandel on the other hand has been quite prolific as a composer for both jazz groups and film scores, yet this is the only thing I am familiar with...as far as I know. He has apparently collaborated with countless people from Count Basie to Frank Sinatra. Any recommendations on his other work?

Non-Music Shit / Northern Soul (film)
« on: September 17, 2015, 06:45:10 AM »
Has anybody see this?
http://www.theguardian.com/film/video/2014/sep/10/northern-soul-trailer-video

It seems to have a good soundtrack. I heard a different ad for it on the radio this morning and it also had some good grooves going on. Seems like the story will be a typical coming of age type thing—British kids discovering their passion for soul music. But I can get down with those types of movies from time to time, especially given the music I've heard in both ads.
