Worst DJ experience:
Elaine and I were hired to DJ some work party thing. It was out doors. I think there were 6 or 7 different DJs. 1 hour each. $100 and free drinks.
We got there it was windy as hell. I thought " oh this is not going to be good." I was right. The tent that was over us to "block the wind" was about to fly away. I was trying to hold the tent down with one hand and play records with the other. Nobody offered to help, records skipped, one flew off the turntable and into the grass. Then we decided that was it. We're done. Not going to have our records get scratched up, nobody seemed to care about what we were playing or the trouble we were having.
The next DJ RUNS up practically knocking us over to get to the DJ set up. Opens a giant case of all CD-Rs and starts in on some of the worst shit I have ever heard. Techno rap, club type stuff. Really bad. People loved it. I couldn't believe it. We knew it was only an hour, so we brought some of the most gritty butt-shaking 45s we had. Nobody seemed to give a damn. Jean and Dean, Bo Diddley, Bobby Peterson, Etta James..... etc. We were asked to turn down a bit into the 2nd song. Techno guy cranked it, everybody thought the party had finally started.
We did however get free drinks, plus the money owed plus an extra 50 for all of our troubles. I think we played 6 to 8 songs.
