Cities / Re: Berlin

I ran into Jello Biafra record shopping at Wowsville when I was there. Nothing to do with anything, just throwing that useless story out there...

Berlin is a beautiful city.

Each time I've returned I've had to do it—eats up about four seconds of my day, which I can spare at this point.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Movies I've been watching

The House at the End of Time (2013) Venezuelan horror/ suspense film. Been watching a lot of horror flicks lately, but this is one of the better ones. Costume design on one of the main characters is a bit lacking. However, set design, cinematography, story writing and acting all make up for it. It's hard to say much about it without giving things away. It's on Netflix. Highly recommended.

Had a few close friends in Toronto that were American. About the last 7 of 10 years I lived in there we had both Canadian and American Thanksgiving dinners together—it was nice. Also celebrated July 1st & 4th together.

What are you doing for Thanksgiving this weekend Nick? Do you still celebrate the real Thanksgiving or are you totally Canadian now?

Been back in the US for about four months and almost forgot tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving. I guess I was overwhelmed with excitement for Columbus Day.

Music Shit / Re: Bowie Book?

I would avoid The Age of Bowie by Paul Morley. We recently got it in the "new arrivals" at the library where I work. I've been reading it here and there on downtime. It's been hard for me to get into, which is a bad sign. It would be something I'd enjoy if it was better focused. The author talks about himself a bit too much. Seems to be a lot oversight and poor construction.

I was in a bookshop in Beckenham a few weeks ago and I was amused to see that Paul Morley's turgid gibberish was given pride of place on the shelves, while a book dedicated to the period when Bowie lived in Beckenham pre-Ziggy and ran an Arts Lab there was displayed on the bottom shelf. The world is fucked.

I was unaware of who Morley was until checking out this book. It's very poorly written.

Keith's bio "Life" is definitely worth checking out.

Spits still rule. Somewhere around the 4th LP I thought they weren't so good anymore, but I was wrong. Don't listen to the new records but first 4 LPs or so are pretty righteous. '19 Million AC' EP is perfection. Have seen them at least 6-7 times, and they have delivered every single time.

Haven't listened to them in quite a bit, but I am sure I would enjoy seeing them live still and I don't see myself getting rid of the records I have—which is the first four, some live-ish LP and a handful of 7s. The Spits were down with the splits, eh?

My gf just gave me all her Buffalo (where she is from) and Toronto HC/punk records... so listening to them out now. Brown Sugar "Deportation" ep (Yes!), Plates "the Garth Butcher", Able Danger etc. The Toronto stuff is mostly later era Fucked Up and CS stuff that I never bothered with.

My girlfriend who grew up in Buffalo just gave me her "Deportation" ep 7'' as well as a bunch of other Buffalo HC/ punk records...Plates, Able Danger, Everything Falls Apart, etc. What a sweet gal.

Also got a Brown Sugar shirt, but it's way too small.
