I have yet to visit Rochester. While living in Toronto and after quitting the School Jerks, guy from Rochester/ the Narcs filled in my spot on bass. Through him I met some Rochester people. Shows there sound fun. Now that I am living in Buffalo, I will probably end up there sooner or later for a show. Are shows still happening in that abandoned subway? Saw pictures of a School Jerks show there—looked cool.

Today: Death in June - The Guilty Have No Pride. Appropriate mood music for walking around looking for a job.

Yesterday: Homostupids - The Intern. Somebody mentioned them a page or two back in this thread and I have seen two people in my neighbourhood this past week wearing Homostupids shirts (they must be friends). I took all of this as a sign that it was time to revisit their debut LP. Great band which I never got a chance to see live. Few gaps in my HS collection I wouldn't mind filling.

Past week or so, in my gf's car we've had The Very Best of Joe Meek's Instrumentals "Vampires, Cowboys, Spacemen and Spooks" in heavy rotation. Good driving music.

I am not a jazz aficionado, but I am quite fond of most anything I've heard by Oscar Peterson.

Non-Music Shit / Re: what are you reading?

Just finished a couple quick reads; A Moveable Feast — Ernest Hemingway and Post Office — Charles Bukowski. Both were enjoyable and probably read by numerous here.

Just started One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhentsyn (1962). It's a story of a typical day for a prisoner in a 1950s' Soviet labor camp. Apparently one of the first Soviet literary works depicting Stalinist repression that was allowed to be published and distributed in the Soviet Union.

Cool. I think I know all I need to know about the Pistols from Savage's England's Dreaming and other punk books. However, a "visual-history" sounds intriguing.

Music Shit / Re: Alice Cooper (the band, the ride, the reunion)

I've enjoyed seeing Alice Cooper solo countless times, so I will gladly check this out. The article discusses the band revisiting the sound of the Killer album. If they would at least go for that guitar tone/ style and drop a bit of the nu metal style that is a holdover from the 90s off that would be a big improvement.

This is really cool. It will be an essential research tool and a story on its own in regards to the progression of reviewers' influence on record-buying, writing and music trends.

Great Plains - Naked At The Buy Sell & Trade LP
Hadn't heard this is a few years, but a few spins sent me out to fill the gaps in my GP collection.

I was not familiar with this band, but the other day a friend was playing an album of theirs,"Born In A Barn." I was digging that.

Medium Cool (Haskell Wexler, 1969) — Loosely based around the 1968 Democratic National Convention. In the special features, Wexler said he had been directing documentaries and wanted to do a fictional drama. Medium Cool is a bit of a mix between documentary (in style) and fiction, without being a docudrama. The '68 Democratic Convention is always present in the background, but only serves to put the main characters in a context. At first, I thought these characters seemed uninteresting and lacked substance, but their development throughout the film grew on me. The narrative is interesting enough and it ultimately evolves into an unexpected and pointless, yet well played ending.

What were you doing in Buffalo? I was probably there. A few cool record stores in the area where I am staying that I'm sure you'd like to check out. Spiral Scratch (Basically next door), Black Dots, and I think Revolver is close, but I get confused as to where I'm at still. Regardless, we should hit up Mayday's in Toronto and celebrate end of the year.

Just shipping US orders for the Zoom LP, which I still have to get you.

We hit Spiral Scratch (which rules), Black Dots and Record Baron, which was a total disappointment. Wish I'd bought a couple more things at Spiral and known about Revolver. We also hit Mighty Taco, which is the best thing in Buffalo, and sent $600 worth of Canadian postage for $123.

Mighty Taco does rule.
