Music Shit / Re: The "Why isn't this reissued on vinyl thread?" Part 2

Singles box sets are probably my third least favorite "format" (after the split 7" and the 10" record) but I actually want that Wire set. Too bad I'm not going to be able to get one -

Catholic Boys: Psychic Voodoo Mind Control LP (Neenah Wisconsin, 2003)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHX0sPnzaCs

I got a friend from Wisconsin and I sent them a bunch of power pop / punk bands from there but they didn't really care.  >:( Shivvers, Haskels, etc.

Not sure if all the band members ever lived in Neenah at the same time.  Funny thing is, almost everyone from that band use to post here.  Paul does from time to time still.  All great dudes.  Eric the drummer is in a bunch of bands still but Detenzione might be one of my current favorites https://detenzione.bandcamp.com/album/vol-i

They were all living in Milwaukee during the Catholic Boys.

I miss nickg.

The best part of the whole saga for me was that I was one of the few who got the record, and he mailed it using a a cut up box from a Gibson guitar he must've just bought....

- Blasting Concept I is probably the greatest label comp/sampler ever made.

- I too dug that first Sultans LP a lot back when (and a good chunk of RFTC) but never liked Jehu and didnt continue on with Hot Snakes either, not sure why. One of those things that gets away from you and then you dont have the time/energy to go back and take care of. I like that song Nick posted and love Reis as a guitar player - and when they backed up Sonny Vincent as Testors, that was some good shit - it just doesnt resonate with me fully on a personal level, and sometimes his stuff gets a little to uh....emo for me.

- forgot how great a lot of this BEND SINISTER stuff is/was

- have listened to the new Hank Wood 3-4 times per day for the past week. so good.

Special Interest: Spiraling (New Orleans LA, 2018)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JeALJ8J6kQ

"Debut LP from NOLA's Special Interest. Brooding, political no wave madness from members of Mystic Inane, Patsy, and Psychic Hotline. Great mix of all things punk and industrial, with plenty of catchiness to boot."

Portland Oregon?s Soft Kill, ripped through 2016 with their first release on Profound Lore Records ?Choke?. Once more bringing their unique blend of guitar driven sad rock, they are laced with a pop sensibility and flawless songwriting that seamlessly transcends post punk. Soft Kill have matured into a powerhouse, having released what is considered a new classic in the genre An Open Door in 2010, they are now effortlessly redefining it. As always with frontman Tobias Grave?s powerful, raw emotional storytelling, and guitar work by Conrad Vollmer, along with Owen Glendower on bass. Soft Kill write songs about loss, battles with drug addiction, the many tragedies that come from that life and the empty space suspended between mourning and celebration.

I?ve only listened to three songs on the new Hank Wood but it sounds better than what I remember of their second LP.

Also, I keep getting distracted at the thought that it sounds like he?s delivering some lines doing a Tupac impression.

his sometimes ultramagnetic-esque delivery is the best thing about the hammerheads, imo. On first listen I like this one a lot more than the last lp, the production makes a huge difference.

I am bummed it's not titled Phone Home or something to keep the gag running

A++ title idea. And yeah his delivery/intonation is a big part of the magic - probably one of the best live shows I've ever attended too. Top 5 at least.

I think the first time I saw 'em was at a secret 2 AM show at 529 here and it was very incredible. They are devastating live.

Stoked to see them again in april. Really loving how loud and prominent the guitars are on this record.

I think they're one of those bands where the key is seeing them in a small venue/after hours setting. First saw them right after the LP got hot in Rochester in a smallish room with tons of Rotcore mutants rioting with bouncers and dancing/falling over, Henry was mid-crowd the whole time and it might have been the most perfect "punk" show I've ever been at.

Later times seeing them after/around the second LP in big rooms/fest atmosphere they were a little underwhelming. But I dont think any band could live up to that first show.

Great book about a legendary dude who doesn't get enough lip service.

Oh man, I wanna check this out. I put it in the library's "suggest purchase" link.

Totally worth a read...does our library have any of the Bazillion Pts stuff for loan (Touch & Go book, We Got the Power, Rettman ones etc...) - just curious -

I'm not sure what's more mindblowing - Firestarter playing a US show or the fact Hot Rod Todd is still alive for a Le Shok reunion to happen?
