a heavy 60s garage obsession.

how did this happen for you, without the internet?

well, i guess that was right around my discovery that internet=new music. but then it was my brother's old computer with a dialup modem kinda thing that worked "sometimes". actually i still used that until like a year ago. immigrants, we come up slow.

amen! i remember having to baby the albums i was downloading because of dialup. it'd take a week to make a cd; so the anticipation would build and build and i'd spend the whole week reading about the band and the album and the story behind each and every song. downloading music for me was so much more rewarding than going out and buying the cd.

i totally had no friends in high school, guys.

I think we should compile a list of college radio DJs to send records to that would actually play our shit.  I am weary of sending records directly to a station (for obvious reasons), and really can only think of two or three shows I would send the record I'm putting out to that would actually play it and not just file away in the promo pile (Art For Spastics, Giants of Jazz and uhhh.. Saturday Night Down At The Bookstore).

i'm in. i dj a show in madison and have been trying to get shit from you bands.

patti smith -- wave

i remember getting this in highschool. seriously, that's obscure as it gets when record shopping in central wisconsin.
but it was a good find nonetheless. kind of conventional for my taste, but still poetic enough to have kept me satiated in the northwoods.
and goddammit am i glad to have escaped a city with only one, painfully mediocre record shop.

it pisses me off how one person misinterpreted what i was saying and the whole board gets out their claws.
get off the internet, dudes. when i said i listened to pussy galore in 8th grade it didn't mean i was cooler than thou. it meant now it's a lot fucking harder to find shit that hurts my ears. stop your fucking bitching about music and just listen to it, for chrissakes.

i think the problem with this board is that there IS a lot of justification. we're all inbreeding, nadsat-speaking outcasts, and sometimes we forget that we're all here for the same goddamn purpose. DA MUSIC DUDES. DA MUSIC.

who the fuck cares if you found your music on soulseek or in some sale bin at a record store ten years ago? i don't care how you found your music, i'm just glad there's at least someone else out there who can stand the shit i listen to.

Though we'd like to think it changes as we get older, there's still a lot of judgemental crap going on when it comes to music.  it's like, we're nerdy about music so we gotta up nerd the next person.  I've come to the point where I assume a lot of people aren't going to like what I like, so I don't even talk about music to others all that much, unless it's a friend that I've met at shows or whatever.

Also, people do care how they found their music, because it takes them back to their youth, or that time when they figured out they don't have to be the sad weirdo that people are giving hell to in school.  At least I felt that way, I remember flipping through the racks fondly because it was my only real friend at the time.
i know what you mean. it's frustrating, because when i was in high school i didn't have an outlet like these message boards (until last year when i found it) i didn't have anyone to talk about my music with. and for these people to judge these kids (me being one of them) is pretty absurd, and really discouraging. i think it's pretty cool that there are people my age who even KNOW about terminal boredom or victim of time, or whatever... let alone understand what we're all talking about/listening to. i mean, i don't even know how my love for throbbing gristle could ever look "cool", because no one where i live even knows who they are... and if they heard the music they'd probably throw up a little bit. it's really personal, and i understand why people are getting so up in arms about that... but then respect that the people you're all attacking take their music very personal too. again, to articulate it, we're all here for the same reason. you can bitch about the kids who AREN'T here, wanting to participate in discussion about this sonic shit.

Just my own sort of "last word" on the topic- It's probably just assumed that most teenagers do what they do to "impress" people. I understand that.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing impressive about posting on Terminal Boredom in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, I'm definitely not climbing anywhere but down on the social ladder when instead of  being "out" at night or whatever, I'm at home listening to records and discussing them with people I don't even know, on the internet.
Because music's one of the few things I actually give a shit about, and who cares HOW or WHEN it is I came to like what I like, it's simply what I like. And it's pretty unfair to discredit anybody's opinions or preferences on the basis of say, gender or age alone. (Not that anybody is, here...)

Alllriiiiight currently listening, while writing a paper:
Pyramids demos- Really good, like 'em a lot. And Factrix- Artyfact I & II.

a) you're a teenager, so where can you go at night except for really lame places (this is not a criticism, it's remembering how much it sucked to not be able to go out when i was a teenager)
b) i rarely go out, and I don't even really go out to shows anymore, I just sit at home and download music and buy records off ebay.
c)I mentioned that a poster was trying to impress others, because this is how I was when I was a teenager, and I know a lot of teenagers do just because this is their world and they're very competitive (btw, some girls never leave that stage. ugh).

anyway, I always think it's cool when teenagers are into punk.  it reminds me of my teenage self, who had no one to connect to and hung out with the white trash and stoners because there was no one else like me in school.
TERMBO IS THE REASON I WAKE AND THE REASON I FALL ASLEEP. YOUR OPINION IS EVERYTHING TO ME. EVERYTHING.
don't flatter yourself.

anyway...
today seems like a ye-ye kind of day. francoise hardy is on the playlist. and i'm still trying to get over la monte young from last night....
