Music Shit / Re: Another record pressing question
« on: March 24, 2017, 07:16:02 AM »
West Coast has Rainbo, Erika, and Pirate's Press.  There's also Cascade in Portland, but they don't do 7" (yet).  United recently bought one of the Cali pressing plants, but I can't remember which one.  Seems like $1,000 is about the average for 300 copies of a 7".  Of course, the more you have pressed, the less it costs per piece.

What kills me at the thrift store is when you find an LP you've been wanting and you get THAT FEELING, but then you pull the record out of the jacket and it's either thrashed, or it has a completely different record in it, or no record at all.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Best 7" storage options

Haha, I forgot I commented on this thread about the colostomy bag boxes.  I've been working in medical supply warehouses for half of my life, and have always been a frugal sort (i.e., cheap fucker) so these boxes are perfect for me personally.  I'll post pics when time permits!

If you work at a place that sells medical supplies, some of the cases that boxes of Convatec colostomy bags come in (more specifically, the ones that come with 6 boxes inside) are perfect for 7" records.

Whoa, "Whole Lotta Rosie" and "Fat Bottomed Girls" are such obvious fat-shamers I didn't even think of them.

The Descendents' "No F.B" might be the worst offender in this category - even in 1985 I was like, damn, that's messed up.

87
Once again, a bit off topic, but I would love to see a reaction to this in the modern fat-acceptance world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoArmEu-9Xk

Smiths also had that song "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others". My understanding is that these are about gay men using heavy-set women as "beards", and not a diss on fat women...but it seems like a diss on fat women.

Another anti-fat offender - that line in "The Party Starts Now" about how 'if you lost some weight, you might get laid'.

The lack of outrage over "Money For Nothing" might be attributed to the 'little faggot' remark emanating from a fictional blue-collar appliance deliveryman in the song...then again, it could just be because homophobia runs rampant in America.

On the racist tip also: "Last Sons of Kypton Rich" by the Oblivians.  I get that it's a Southern colliquialism or whatever, but it still makes me cringe every time I hear it.

The "little faggot" line in "Money For Nothing" has always rubbed me the wrong way too.

Yeah, Mick is a dork sometimes (like on "Far Away Eyes", for example), but who isn't?  He gets a pass from me on any real or imagined offenses because of his countless incredible performances and because, if the rumors are to be believed, he has fucked people of every possible persuasion.

As far as the "awesome power of a black woman's sexuality", I'm talking about that one specific woman in the song who has got this slave owner so worked up he thinks he's going to LOSE HIS GODDAMN MIND.

Meat Puppets have a lot of weird psychedelic lyrics - making literal sense out of some of them might prove to be a futile effort.
