Music Shit / Re: What is everybody listening to? Part III
« on: March 28, 2008, 12:29:28 PM »

I once belonged to a junior high school honor society whose motto was LET US LEAD BY SERVING OTHERS.  I try to live everyday by this saying.

Nerd.

Now listening to:
The Marc Thor Band "Trak" 7"
Drug Addix "Make a record" 7"  (working on getting this reissued with bonus cuts and all that)
Cool ghoul 7"
A mound of glam comps that keep getting sent to me.

Iron Virgin 12"
Doug Derek and the Hoax LP

how are these?

The Iron Virgin LP is great.  If you like anything you've heard by them you'll like the full album.  If you haven't heard them and just like junkshop glam stuff then you'll like it.  The packaging leaves more to be desired buuuut it's rave up so no surprise.

The Sidewinders (still don't understood why these guys aren't exhaled in the same breath as Flamin' Groovies.  Any bored TermBoer with no clue what to spend his turbo-tax on should get in touch with Mssr. Erik Lindgren and put out the rest of their later, unreleased stuff, featuring a pre-Piper Billy Squier!)

I tried like a year and a half ago.  Never heard anything back!

Music Shit / Re: 12" maximum length question
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:53:54 PM »
So I don't see this question ever really answered.  If I have a record at around 18 minutes on each side am I going to be okay and not lose any quality?  Should I aim to keep it below 18 minutes per side?

I'm trying to figure out what I can fit on this Wind reissue.

Also, do the seconds between tracks count on the overall time of the record?

Non-Music Shit / Re: New Turntable
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:37:11 AM »
More of an annoyance than a nightmare.  It takes about 15 seconds to do it on my turntable.  But there are times that I throw a 7" on there thinking it's a 45, and when I realize it's a 33, I pick another record to play instead of bothering to change the speed.

I'm not 100% sure, but I suspect that all the basic audiophile belt-drive tables in this price range (Pro-Ject, Rega, Music Hall, NAD which is a rebranded Rega, etc) are designed like this.

Is this how the Project III turntable operates? If so, I definetely will not be buying it. That sounds like a nightmare.

Just note that in general, the fancier you get with turntables, the more of a pain in the ass they are to run.  To change the speed on many belt-drive tables, you need to lift off the platter, move the belt to a different pulley, and then replace the platter.  If you want push-button ease, there's another reason to get a 1200.

The clearaudio I have is belt driven but the belt sits on the outside.  So all you have to do is move the belt on the motor (also external).  It's almost as fast as pushing a button.

Yea, I thought it was just me but packages have been taking FOREVER lately.
What used to take 3 days is now 2 weeks.   No idea how fast stuff I'm sending out is getting to its destination though.

I hope we get that new Foxx album on vinyl some day, its fucking AWESOME.  Edition of 300 mebbe? Gold vinyl with sparkles? Gatefold pop-up sleeve?

I wish!
Funny I can afford to reissue all this other stuff on vinyl but still haven't managed to put my own band out on vinyl.  hehe.

Yeah, I'm sure WARNER (who owns Flying Nun) will be super easy to do business with!

What's the deal on that guy?  That catalog is in desperate need of reissue.
It's a shame somebody doesn't do it.

I'm still talking to Caspar to see what he'll let me do with the video.  I may throw a teaser track up on youtube tonight until we figure out what to do with the rest.

This label rules.  Can't wait for these releases, you'll have to keep us updated on the unreleased Caspar stuff, that single kills (unless Collin ruined it for everyone).

That's what I do.  I make stuff suck.  JUST FOR YOU!

Hope none of this Caspar stuff is from his Atlantic LP.  GOD!  So shitty.  'Your Body Speaks My Language' or some shit.  Truly horrid.

Nope, it's all before that album.  This is stuff that had to have been recorded right around the time of the 45.  The video music is all being lip synched to which leads me to believe there's a legit recording laying around somewhere.  Rock Steady seemed quite confident that they had recordings - they just had to dig through boxes to find em!

Collin, nobody likes a negative nancy.  Please stop making stuff suck.

Even I like that Caspar 7". Its pretty solid for the genre.

Agreed - I don't know how anyone couldn't like it.

The 6 other tracks I've heard are all just as solid.  I think the guy would've been quite successful had he stayed in england and put out the full record.
