Non-Music Shit / Which 33 1/3 books are worth reading (if any)?
« on: March 01, 2019, 11:22:33 AM »
Mainly I was thinking about the Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique one and the Big Star ones, but any that you lovely people found particularly enjoyable would do.

Or, are they a series of complete shit to be avoided? Never read one, but there have been a few like the above ones that have always made me curious.

Fire away!

Dan Melchior and PG Six - "Exhibit A" I love this record. Kind of like a English Psych -folk record. Very solo Syd and all that. My 6 year old thinks "Never Trust a Man Without Sideburns" is the best song on the album. I like the Creation cover. (I think)

Junkpile Jimmy - Wants You Dead - Like Bob Log III joined Darkthrone as guitar player. pretty great and next level shit.

Lots of Oblivians live recordings looking for a specific one. A much needed Oblivs palate cleanse with a favorite.

I'm almost positive at least Black Trash isn't on the Tirefire single or tape. Single is amazing, tape is pretty good. Wasn't sure about the Wizzard Sleeve stuff because Chad tends to have five different versions of each song.

That would be great to get at least a rip of it. Thanks.

Meat Puppets - live in the desert jan 1985 and Up On the Sun

Dug out the bootleg after the post about the docu about the event the show is from. Dug it quite a bit even though it is mostly Up On The sun songs. Up to this point I pretty much drop off after II. So, thought maybe I should re-evaluate Up On The Sun. I downloaded it and listened to in the car with my oldest boy while we ran errands today during his day off school. Gotta say, while the live versions were pretty good, maybe because of a bit more gritty, the album still leaves me a bit cold. Too mellow and the vocals are kid of annoying.

Anyone have this cdr comp and are willing to burn or rip a copy for me? Would love to hear the Tirefire song and see if the Wizzard Sleeve versions are different from other releases.

Willing to send music files or cdrs your way in a fair trade kind of way! Please and thank you.

This looks really cool. I have a Meat Puppets bootleg that is them playing this in 1985.

Zoned out last night listening to:

Velvet Underground - Sweet Sister Ray
Low Life - Dogging

....and really enjoyed drinking whiskey and listening to the Green River reissues. I listened to these albums so much in high school on cd. So cool to finally own them on record. They really sound great too. I can't really judge these critically at this point, but can really hear some Hanoi Rocks/ Thin Lizzy in those riffs.

Today:

Merle Haggard - Mama Tried lp : breakfast music

Major Stars - Decibels of Gratitude : Still not sure how I feel about Major Stars. Kind of like a more action rock Flipped Out Records band? Songs kind of get samey, but the guitars are ripping. The female singer seems to really help me with this.   I think it adds an interesting element, plus the music is loose enough to not feel like most action rock. Good music to play Star Wars with my kids?

Writhing Squares - Out in the Ether : can't wait to really dig into this. I've really only heard as background music while playing after it arrived today. Side 2 seems mellow?

Congrats. That Cleveland show is stacked.

Anything other than LA, NY and Cleveland? Or, is that going to be it?

I found 2 songs on YouTube, but on my phone right now. Can post them later. One was Mother and I think the other is In the Flesh.

Bits I watched were really cool.

Excellent show, Kevin!

Seconded. Is there anywhere in the US to still get that crazy Doberman single?

Digging it too. First side is a little hit and miss for me, but the b side is all killer.
