although vice circle jerks the shit out of this dude, i do like his films. but, i don't think he lives up to all the hype.  isn't lydia lunch in one of his films? maybe i am fucking wrong, i can't remember.  i just saw "Joe Rogan vs. Feminist" and it was her (feminist) on youtube, and if you've seen the dudes photos it doesn't seem like it would be her cup of tea.  pretty funny, though..

Yeah, Lydia Lunch is in three or four Kern films. On a surface level, it looks like women are the victims in his films. But I think he was just making a parody of hyper-macho sexual behavior. I don't think Kern was looking for critic accolades when he made those films. He just wanted to shock people.

Watching that Joe Rogan vs. Feminist clip was painful. As much as I respect Lydia and her work, she's kind of asking for it with her "look at me, I'm a well-known artist" attitude. Rogan did overreact with all that shouting, though.

you respect lydia and her work?  she's one of the most talentless people on earth...  her sole laurel is that she used to be pretty cute

OK, maybe I'm a sucker for angry, yet articulate, women. I also liked her in Teenage Jesus and the Jerks.

Yeah yeah. 8 Eyed Spy and Teenage Jesus. Like anyone on this board couldn't make that kinda noise. A No Wave groupie who sucked Foetus' cock. Big deal.

I've had three roommates my entire life and that's including my wife. The worst had to be the second, a friend from high school that was bat shit crazy. But because she was somewhat hot and I wasn't even 21 yet, I ended up fucking her, which led to a horrible relationship. Tons of constant, insane drama that peaked with her getting drunk, beating me up and having to go to jail. To make matters worse, the apartment was in her name.

Never sleep with your roommates, no matter how young and horny you are.

Ha! I remember that! Lisa and I saw her stripping at Union Jacks years later.

As a golden-age fan I can't beleive it took me this long to read the Spirit, who I only got into because Darwin Cooke and now Sergio Aragones are doing the new series.

Wow - that's hard to imagine. I keep picturing the Spirit as Groo. Too bad those sweet ass hardcover reprints of The Spirit are $50 a pop!

Currently enjoying Dark Horse reprints of the '70s Conan (Smith and Buscema) that I found at Half-Price Books. Crom! And The Goon. Also found an album of Valerian when I was cleaning out the storage shed yesterday - cool French sci-fi.

The Girl Next Door - based on Jack Ketcham's novel. Starts off as some kind of Stand By Me lite, then turns into a really disturbing descent into the slavery and abuse of the titular chick. Ug. Some of the acting borders on high-camp, but it still left me feeling gross. It's no Sado, but it's still pretty fucked up.
.

that book is great. somewhat interested in seeing the movie but hate most modern "horror" movies.
i think "Red" by ketchum would be a great movie if done right.

Is that the one about the dog? I need to read that. TGND was pretty messed up. You can see what's goning to happen and what happens isn't pretty. Nothing is played for laffs and no one wins, it's downbeat as all hell. Made even stranger because the cast is virtually all children. It's certainly no Italian endurance test, but it still has a filthy, mean veneer.

this morning Extreme Prejudic (story by John Milius directed by Walter Hill). a great 80s action movie with one of the best all around casts ever. Nick Nolte, Michael Ironside, Rip Torn, William Forsythe, Tommy 'Tiny' Lister, and POWERS FUCKING BOOTHE! Texas and zombie corps special ops take on drug dealer boothe. pretty good and high body count. cheap action entertainment at its finest. a movie for guys who like movies.

Holy shit, that sounds great! Maybe I'll watch Conan now...

I watched Werner Herzog's documentary "My Best Fiend" last night and think Herzog was just as crazy as Kinski.  Who the fuck tows a riverboat up the Amazon just to film a movie?

Check out Burden Of Dreams - its the documentary that focuses on the making of Fitzcaraldo and that damn boat.

Cloverfield - Pretty fun! I was suprised that it was engaging at all, and the shakey cam didn't bug like I thought it would. Monster design is okay. I get the feeling from the extras that JJ Abrams is a tremendous asshole.

National Treasure 2 - This was like watching a video game. Never ending logic puzzles - should be easy to make an actual licensed port if Disney had the desire.

Electra Glide in Blue - Cue the leather/fascist fetishists. Funny how they focused on creepy Blake's height the whole time.
