Music Shit / Re: KBD era reissue wish list...
« on: November 22, 2013, 10:59:40 AM »
I got 99% agreement over a year ago to reissue two absolutely fucking monster classic punk singles (first two by the same band) and just cannot close the deal. Nothing about money or terms, and the guy is friendly. He just has to secure the agreement of everyone involved and it's clearly not high on his list of priorities. Guy's a pretty successful musician now, and I know he's busy but still so frustrating. Same with two utterly brilliant and sought-after Canadian garage singles I've been looking to do for years-- guy is very friendly, likes the label, still connected to music himself, but consistently says that one day he'll be "ready" and that we'll be the first people he talks to then. Meanwhile the records have been bootlegged, of course.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of potential reissue ideas that people wonder about are in fact projects in similar stasis for whatever reason.

Right, I've had this situation over a couple things. Frustrating, but I keep checking in to make sure they know I'm still interested.

A few of these on the wish list have been attempted by me and probably others. In fact, a couple told me they had been contacted by other labels. (Tapeworm by at least a few...) Some bands/people don't want things reissued for a variety of reasons. I respect that, even if it's not what I want to hear. I also get it when someone is so far removed from music/punk/records at this point. It's like if someone contacted me about my participation in 4th grade summer rec-league baseball. Even if I was flattered on some level, I don't give a shit about that now, so helping them wouldn't be a priority for me.

GREAT DIG, JASON!
Thanks!

All orders except those placed Saturday/Sunday were shipped on Friday. All others go out later today or tomorrow morning. I have just a few clean vinyl Alloys left. I'd call these all B Class I guess due to sleeve condition. Most have clean but a bit dusty vinyl, but all the sleeves that are left are VG or VG-. I do have a handful of the $15 copies left. The $15 copies are getting G or G+ sleeves.

I haven't found any seam splits, but all the sleeves I have left are pretty damn yellowed. Most have creasing, darker yellowing/staining edge spots. The $15 ones are pretty beat around the edges and creased, etc. The vinyl on the $15 copies may be cosmetically ugly but the ones I gave a good cleaning played very well. Strong VG or VG+ for the most part. They will need a very thorough scrubbing, though.

i hate the usps  :(
can't bring myself to order a $7 single and pay $13 on top for shipping. Sorry.

Any European distros will get this? Crypt, maybe?

I know it sucks, sorry. I hate it too. Killed a TON of business. Single copy orders are insane between postage, foreign conversion Paypal fees, etc. Still not too bad if you find some friend(s) to go in on an order to hit the Priority Flat rate postage, but that's not so easy to do either.

I hope to have wholesale quantities on these shortly. I already have some Euro and Asian stores/distros interested, so I'll post a list of non-U.S. outlets if that all pans out.

OK, here's the dead stock offering post...will gladly combine orders...

The Alloys-No One But You b/w Love Me Forever 7?
1981-DB Records

Here?s a previously unknown rarity from the Chicago suburb of Aurora, IL. A self-released Power Pop/Rock 45 by this young high school band, ages 14-17. They say they just wanted to be the next Beatles, but we think this is a great slice of under-produced teen-angst rock. The rockin' thud of ?No One But You? is the obvious hit here, but ?Love Me Forever? is no slouch when it comes to a ?60s-style, shuffling ballad.

The single never had any distribution outside the Chicago area, and it was even very limited around those parts. Pretty much any copy that got sold was done so to a friend at high school or at one of their few local live gigs. Sales were probably a hundred or so, with much of the stock long since tossed out by ex-band members and their manager.

Have a listen to samples of both sides here: http://www.divshare.com/download/24469185-833
(Note, these samples are off my old used copy, not one of the unplayed ones offered here)

CONDITION NOTES: Although we obtained the last remaining unplayed copies, none of them are Mint. I?d venture to guess a Minty copy probably doesn't exist. These were stored in a brown grocery bag, in a basement for 20+ years. All of the thin paper sleeves are yellowed and all have some edge/corner wear and creasing. Most of them have some other storage wear, too. The cleanest copies of the vinyl are clean but a bit dusty. They are flat and play great. Those are matched up with the cleanest sleeves. Some type of rose powder or other garden chemical got dumped on the bag by "Mom" at some point years ago and it hit a handful of copies. It cleaned up pretty well, but some vinyl has dust scuffs/wear from that or just dust. The B-class copies are these or ones with other minor storage/dust wear. We also have some lesser copies for those who aren't condition freaks, which are still unplayed but have scuffing, marks, etc on the vinyl. The sleeves have more wear as well. Some of these have just scuffs/marks on one side with the other being clean. We have a handful of each grade available and we'll fill orders with the cleanest copies first.

We've priced accordingly, but the grades on each group are general for the group. Even the VG-/VG C-grade copies should clean up and play pretty well

A-class - The cleanest VG to VG+/EX copies: $30.00 + postage

The Images-Jackie?s Back/Secret Image b/w Tears In My Eyes 7?
1985-Image Records

Another obscure, self-released Power Pop 45 from Illinois. This one's from Waukegan, IL, which is about halfway between Chicago and the WI border. The Images were never really a functioning band. This was a studio project recorded by one high school senior, with his sophomore friend handling drum duties. They recorded and pressed the 45 in 1985. 500 (at most) believed to be pressed.

It was never issued in a picture sleeve, although some copies have copyright info typed or handwritten on the dust sleeve. Some also have a contact address. Others were sold in plain white sleeves. Like most other private press releases, this single had no real distribution. Copies were mainly sold to friends, sent out for review and some possibly sold through stores in the Chicago area.

We are please to offer the very last of the dead stock copies the Images had in storage. Once these are gone, they?re gone. Most of the copies we have are in plain sleeves, but we do have some with either handwritten or typed copyright info. We?ll fill orders with the copies that have info on the sleeve until we run out. All vinyl is unplayed with minor storage dust.

Have a listen to samples of both sides here: http://www.divshare.com/download/24290557-b1c

$16.50 + postage
Get it here: http://www.rerunrecordsstl.com/STORE.html#!/~/product/id=27711452
(Single copies: $20ppd US - $25.50ppd Canada - $29.50ppd rest of the World)

Thanks, fixed. I must have misunderstood about them being all black. Maybe he just meant I was getting all black.

I also meant to time this post with a second one in the used section, offering dead stock of a couple IL power pop 45s. My 11 month old decided she didn't want me to finish the other post yesterday. I got a slew of orders overnight, so everyone sit tight, as I want to offer you the dead stock things as well. Will be posted shortly...

Rock Bottom & The Spys-Rich Girl 7"EP

2013-no label

Amazingly great 3 song Synth Punk EP from 1981 by this California band. The originals are notoriously rare, and the 2002 reissue from breakmyface.com is even really tough to find these days. This is a second pressing of the 2002 reissue on breakmyface.com. The same pressing plates were used for this release. These were actually pressed around 2008 but sat in storage until mid 2013. Although no record label is listed, this is an authorized reissue, but it is not done by breakmyface.com.

The packaging is different than on the 2002 or original releases. All copies of this pressing include a shrunk down color photocopy of the limited reissue sleeve pasted to a white cardstock, glue pocket sleeve. It also comes with a xeroxed lyric sheet. Same matrix numbers as the reissue obviously, but this pressing has rubber stamped labels. 500 copies pressed, all hand numbered on the back of the sleeve. Most on black vinyl, some on blue and 50 on turquoise.

Have a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEoGLA-1ATo

***Al copies we have are on black***

The plastic sleeve inners can be a problem if you live in a humid/moist climate. Since the plastic doesn't breathe, any moisture that gets in there can create a micro-climate and surface noise on the record. If you live in a dry area, you're probably fine. If you live in the NW or in Texas then you should probably stick to white paper inners which, if you are not a complete fucktard, will not damage your records at all.

Right, some of the thin plastic (non-PVC) inners do "sweat" in humid climates. When I first moved to St. Louis, one store owner warned me of them, and I thought it was bullshit, as it never happened back in Wisconsin. Sure enough, I've encountered it a bunch here since late '98. Not all plastic inners, but I find that quite a few of them, especially the ones Restless/Enigma used in the '80s, leave a film. It's usually inaudible but kinda ugly at times. It sometimes cleans off, but usually, it's there for good. You'll see little wave lines that look like a light dusting of white powder almost. Almost all the after market poly liner inners seems to have this same problem for me here.

PVC outers cause that irreversible haze, and I've gone through collections to buy where it's "bled" through to the next record in the box, causing haze on something not even in a PVC sleeve. Some of these still play OK as DJ night copies but most are awful sounding. Anything I get these days in a PVC sleeve gets separated from the record and put in a storage box I keep away from vinyl. I just put a note on each sleeve as to what it goes with. Kinda of a pain, but it sure beats messing up stuff in the collection boxes. I've also heard of people putting some unique PVC sleeve for a release in a resealable Japanese style outer sleeve and putting it behind the record. Not sure if that Japanese plastic sleeve will block the PVC haze or not.

Here's the latest list of available Rerun and BDR Records releases along with distro titles, 98% of which are also '70s-'80s reissues. We just got in a whole bunch of high quality Finnish Punk and HC reissues from our friends at Svart Records. We have a copy or two each of the LPs by Kohu-63, Sensuuri and Pelle Miljoona & 1980 that had the vinyl shift in shipping, causing one small seam split/punch through. These are still in shrink and are flawless otherwise. We are offering these at a couple bucks off the regular price. lf you don't mind a small flaw, please inquire about these copies.

M.O.T.O.-Golden Quarter Hour Of M.O.T.O. 7"EP
(2013-Rerun/Blast of Silence Records) (RERUN #014 - BOS013)

In the '80s-'90s, M.O.T.O. released numerous tapes that were filled with lo-fi recordings of fuzzy Garage Pop classics. Paul Caporino (aka M.O.T.O. aka Masters Of The Obvious) switched over to strictly full-band studio recordings some time in the late '90s. A new location and a renewed interest in his trusty 4-track has Paul back to his roots.

We've chosen our favorites from recent recording sessions and turned them into a must-own piece of vinyl. We've managed to squeeze eight big hits onto a 7"EP that clocks in at a whopping fifteen minutes! The release of this EP also kicks off M.O.T.O.'s Summer 2013 tour of China.

Co-released by Rerun Records (USA) and Blast of Silence Records (Finland). We've pressed 650 copies total. All come in a heavy glue pocket sleeve. 500 black vinyl and 150 on red vinyl with a special tour sleeve/overlay that will be sold only on the 2013 Chinese tour.

M.O.T.O. is currently on tour in China, and they have the limited tour edition with them for sale at the shows. Each label has a very limited number of tour and test press editions available for mailorder. You can get them from Rerun at the M.O.T.O. store: http://www.rerunrecordsstl.com/STORE.html#!/~/category/id=1462831&inview=product24158952&offset=0&sort=addedTimeDesc Only 2 test pressings left and just a handful of tour editions.

There's a new article on M.O.T.O. by our old pal Scott Bass on Perfect Sound Forever, and he's arranged for a Chinese tour diary to be published as well! Read it here: http://www.furious.com/perfect/moto.html

OK, so I'm a couple days late, but I'm just giving everyone a last chance to sign up for the Rerun Crud newsletter. The new issue with the link to the 7" set sale list goes out today/Wednesday at 5pm central time. 1000+ 7"s on the list. No $$$ raers but some medium rares and lotso' quality used stuff at fair prices. '70s-'80s Punk, New Wave, indie and lotso' '90s Rip Off/Garage Punk/Punk n' Roll/Estrus/etc. Plus a big clearance section and cheapo grab bags of UK 80s hit pop/new wave stuff.
42

UPDATE:
I know I said it'd be ready about 5-6 weeks ago, but I'm finally almost done with the 7"s set sale list I've been promising. I'm just assembling the clearance list (lotso '90s pop punk, garage, Punk, HC and lesser condition older titles) and adding in a pile of last minute arrivals. It's 95% Punk, HC, Indie stuff. There is a handful of 00's things, but otherwise the list is made up of '70s-'80s stuff and a bunch of '90s Garage Punk, Garage, Punk, etc. It'll be 800+ records on the list. Half or more never offered before. No mega dollar KBD rarities but some semi-rare things and lotso' quality used stuff for fair prices.

The list will go out by next Monday (or sooner) to the Rerun Records newsletter subscribers. It won't be offered to the general public until the mailing list folks have a full week to browse. If you want to make sure you get it first, sign up for the mailing list at www.RerunRecordsSTL.com

Music Shit / Re: New records and "acceptable" warpage
« on: May 02, 2013, 12:20:35 PM »
Yeah, I would think Archer is the way to go. The same guy has been running Arche since the 60s. From what I've heard, he hasn't changed his pressing process much from the golden days of Pressing Plant greatness. I can only imagine dealing with United at this point would be hands down the worst choice. I've never pressed a record, but seems like Archer is the best choice.

I've had minor to medium headaches with United. Enough that I avoid them now. I did one LP at Archer in the mid-90s and it was the most screwed up of any job I've ever had. Entire pressing was dish warped badly. They pressed the wrong amount, vinyl was flimsy, they wouldn't not return my master tape or metal parts after I was charge around $80 extra to do so and just ignored all attempts at fixing the problem. I even sent them samples of the problem, etc. I've heard mostly good things in recent years, but they did an amazingly poor job for me.

I only use Rainbo these days. 7"s are always flat, but 12"s always seem to have 40-75 of a 500 (well, 550 with overs) piece run that you can tell/feel are warped as soon as you unpack them. I've tried to find a pattern, and I've found most if not all of the warpy ones on either end of the 50 count bulk box. The ones more than 4 or 5 records into the stack always seem fine. I've not had any that were unplayable, but it bugs me too. I wonder if they're packing the records when they're not completely cooled, which is causing only the outer ones to warp. I'm assuming they're stacking the boxes with the vinyl sitting in a vertical position. My only solution to keep customers happy has been to hold these copies back from the ones that I feel have no warping issue. I then use them for promo copies and use them to fill orders when I run a sale or offer some type of discount.

Last call on these before I try to sell the last handful tomorrow night. I have 6 left that aren't spoken for.
