Brain Handle fucking killed in St. Louis last night. My ears are still ringing 'cuz of the volume. I thought the records were really good, but live...I nearly shit myself. The white denim with air brushed backs were a nice touch. They were all really nice guys, too. Not to overly gush, but they're the best live band I've seen in quite a while. Once my ears stop ringing, I'll play the LP.

I was never so hot on the Low Numbers 7", but this cut-out place still has them for under $4.  They didn't mark it "limited quantity" or "very limited" (which according to their policy page means less than 25 copies) so they probably easily have 50+ in stock.

I know that place! I picked up a few of the Low Numbers, an Iggy-Lust For Life 8 Track (tho' $10 seemed a bit high price wise), and a sealed copy of the Vectors 12"ep. The Vectors was $5 and when I inquired, it was their last one. I always got a buncha great dead stock buttons from the 80's. The only down side to their buttons is...some are obviously newly manufactured, but I got a couple great Rough Trade ones and a handful of others that were dead stock...you can tell by the tarnished metal on the back of the pin. They had the wiggle picture/3-D Devo buttons for $3, too. They weren't the mailorder balloons/boobs ones. They are promo buttons for Oh No It's Devo.

WTF? I'm guessing it's just the lotso' rare singles listed at once thing, but that's more than I've ever seen it go for. I paid $22 for my copy, and I thought that was too much. It's a really good EP, but I even had second thoughts paying that much.

We had Joe Stumble from the Last Days of Man on Earth blog http://lastdaysofman.blogspot.com/ on our radio show a month or so back and he played a song off the Sleepers LP. The guitarist of the Sleepers (forget his name and he's not on the EP, just the LP) called in 'cuz he listens to the radio show and now lives in St. Louis. Odd to say the least. Geezer Butler used to have a house here too! I wonder if he video taped women pissing in the bathroom like Chuck Berry? Hmmmm...

I'm really fuckin' excited to see Brain Handle. I like both 7"s a lot, and the one member I talked to is really nice. They'll be here in St. Louis tomorrow night and my band just got added to the bill, so it's even better! I am bummed that I can't afford to go to the Chaos in Tejas fest, though.

Oh yeah, grab that LP if you do see them. It's a tour edition  of 300 they did themselves (I think), but don't fret as it's coming out in a "proper" way after their tour, I guess.

here to observe is awesome.. i think.. my tastes have been called into question a few times , i like alot of raspberriesesque, wimpy pop stuff.
if you ever see any of those 2 records buy them and if you dont like em sell them to me!

OK, I'll let you know if I come across copies. I'm not into way too much power pop stuff so my "pop-dar" isn't so hot. Even cool shit looks like bad Greg Kihn wimp rock a lot of the time. I passed up the LP by the Thumbs numerous times before I picked one up for a buck or two and realized I like it quite a bit. Now I rarely see it.

If there are any other good or great Missouri pop things, lemme know....well, besides the Thumbs, Skeltons and off shoots and friends on Borrowed Records, or the Leopards stuff. I know 'bout those...but not much else. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

The Trend are pretty cool.  The 'Trend Is In' LP is a must-have.  And if you see any copies of the Leopards LP ANYWHERE, please please let me know!

I only have one of the Leopards myself. I made a CDR of the vinyl tho'. If you could use a CDR of it, PM me.

Who did that song that repeated "Let's go to fuckin' Hawaii!"

Young Canadians

...and it's their best song...tho' they had 40% great material as it is.

I'm guessing that CD collection with mostly studio stuff on Zulu is long outta print. It's swell! There is a live set that White Noise released around the time they did the Mutants (SF) Fun Terminal CD reissue. It's good...but not essential.

How about the printed Z GUN W/ BRAINBOMBS and DWGUNS itws Monty did?

I'd love to read the DWG interview. I don't know Monty (Monty Hall from Let's Make a Deal?), but if you're on here....who did you do the interview with? Since there was such bad blood in the split of that band (lawsuits over song rights and stuff), I'd love to see where someone interviewed Mike the singer on his viewpoint, then Stan the guitarist on his point. I've only heard third hand rumors and it sounded pretty ugly. I have met or know all these members, but I've never had the balls to ask them about it...well that and figuring they're all sick of local twits like me asking about it. Even better would be an expanded thing on the other bands those guys did....all pretty interesting stuff. Mike was the drummer for the notrious White Pride among other STL bands, Mike Deleon (bass guy for half or so of their tenure) did Fruitcake and some stuff with Strangulated Beatoffs, Stan is 1 of the 2 core Strangulated Beatoffs members, etc

No commercial can ruin a great song, but I know what yer sayin.

I know but geez, why can't these corporations just come up with their own jingles like they used to back in the day.

That doesn't work either, because douchebags like The Carpenters turn the jingles into hit songs. It's a catch 22.

Sorry to hear about your record n' all, but this is a Fools Face question.....

I seriously didn't know anybody cared about Fools Face. Being in St. Louis I've flipped by their records tons of times. I always just thought they were a bad bar band or something. Is anything besides the Tell America LP desirable? I'm sure I'll turn up copies again in the future.

Pop Punk / Re: Pop punk militia
« on: May 07, 2007, 12:53:04 PM »

I've sold a couple copies of the Boris-End of the Century for around $20 each sealed. I sold one of the white vinyl tour editions for about $35 or so. (It's just white vinyl in a regular cover...unlike the other Ramones cover album tour editions) I just figured that was the Ramones series thing, rather than Boris.

The first pressing of the first single sounds like it goes for something (however vague that is) but I didn't really think any of the other singles were going for anything more than a few bucks each. Maybe I still think they're all common 'cuz of seeing them everywhere when they came out. I guess I shoulda kept some copies of the first 7". If anyone knows someone looking, I'm sure I still have doubles and maybe triples of some of them.

I had a hard time getting anybody to buy that Wongs EP when it first came out. I think Norb and maybe one other person were the only people excited to get it...and I think both of them heard about it from a long distance mutual friend we had. I think the Exclusive Company still owes me for that consignment. ha ha

I love that 7"!  I got it at Dr. Freud's when I was in High School.  I used to put those songs on mix tapes all the time.  I still listen to it from time to time...unlike the LP (like that one too, but not as much).

Really, at Dr. Freud's? I never even put any for sale there....that I can remember. I may be biased, but the EP is tons better than the LP. THey had sent me some other rough demos around that time and those were pretty great, too.

I worked at the Exclusive Company and always got fucked out of my own consignments. Mr. G, the creepy owner had a hand in that I think. There always seemed like something shady was going on there. Band demos were no big deal...didn't expect to ever collect on those anyway, but vinyl costs more than a few cents to make. Tom Smith knew this very well and once gave me store credit against a consignment that he said I'd never get paid for at the Green Bay store.

Music Shit / Re: Do people still buy CDs?

I've seen those early 90's Japanese hardcore boot CDs on "JPC Records" go for quite a bit. The Lip Cream double disc has sold for $65-70, and The Stalin and some other single ones have gone for $30-60 a pop. That's a lot considering the tracking and mastering job and packaging is pretty shitty on those.

I'm always afraid to buy CDs, as I currently own about twelve older discs that have the shrinkage/rot problem or big pinhole rot problems. Sure, vinyl can warp, but it's not gonna shrink and lose it's grooves on its own.

Yeah, I always thought Fun Luvin was kind of cool. It was a horrible place to set up a show at. One of the first times I met the Shrubbers they were double booked onto a show that Hell On Earth was playing there. They tried telling us they had to play first cause they were from farther away. There was already limited time for the bands, so I basically had to get up in their faces and explain that we didn't care how far they drove, and that our band would beat their bands ass if they didn't back off. They did. I wonder if they remember that. I almost forgot about it completely myself.

The first time I played at Fun Luvin', the owner (still forget his name and I knew him for years before that, as he always came into Record Exchange in Appleton...Rufus maybe?) had all kinds of dance floor/disco lights and was fuckin' with those and the PA as the bands were trying to play. It was funny, but got annoying pretty quickly. It was also fun to hang out in the back alley and fuck with the losers going into the mall of bars that was a few doors down.
