Thanks Sukebe GG san!
yeah, you've definitely got to take a day trip to Nara and see the Daibutsu!

I like Nara a lot, because it's less touristy and the shit there are way older than Kyoto. And you get to have 'em deer chase you around for food. It's something else! I think it makes sense for you to pick Osaka as the homebase and take day trips. But if you're going to Hiroshima, you should probably stay at least one night there. And I see that you're going to Nikko...that's an excellent pick! I love Nikko. You should stay at least one night in the area - along the Kinugawa River is great. They have a lot of nice Onsen Ryokans.
And most importantly...don't forget to purchase your JR Rail Pass HERE cuz you can't purchase it once you get to Japan! And you don't get the actual pass while in the U.S. either...you have to bring the exchange order with you to Japan, and then they'll finally exchange it to an actual pass. Just go to Midori no Madoguchi (ticketing office) at a JR station and they'll exchange it for you.

It's the CHEAPEST way to get around Japan.
I'll be spending the last week of March in Tokyo, than a visit to Nikko and Takayama and after that we're heading to Osaka or Kyoto for another week.
My question to the Japheads on this board:
Should we rather stay in Osaka or in Kyoto? The plan is to stay the whole week in one of those 2 cities and make daytrips to Nara, Hiroshima and some more.
Which city has the most to offer? I'm leaning more to Osaka because of the nightlife and because it should offer more on musical level (record stores, concerts, ?). Or am I wrong here?
Thanks in advance!
