I spent most of yesterday reading EVERYTHING from that link. Went from "knowing" they didn't do it to being pretty much convinced that they DID do it.

That manhole theory is interesting, though I ain't buyin' it!

It really sickened me reading Misskelley's confessions. There's a part where he mentions Jason Baldwin trying to rip off one of the boys' ears with his bare hands... he mentions how it didn't work(ears ripping off), and that it "just turned his ears real red"... Also, the fact that he's a half-retard just convinces me more. How/why would someone like that just make up some shit like that. I don't believe that cops put those words in his mouth. And yes, the dog mutilation shit drives it home. I'm also 60/40 they did it.

I am now leaning towards believing that they are guilty of the murders/mutilation. Just too much detail in Misskelley's confessions...

Sorry Officer Officer Officer Brad, the FBI is not the most reliable source on crime, believe it or not. For years the FBI had people looking for ritual child molesters in every day care center, while it was rape-o-rama at the local Catholic parish.
Remember that case(witch hunt) in the 1980s involving a group of parents who were falsely imprisoned for many years for molesting their own kids?

Man, I was HEAVY into this shit in Eighth Grade... have loved and appreciated the music ever since. Got to see 2 Live(sans Luke but shit was still sick) a few years back, which was a dream come true.
Back in '90/'91 my best friend and I would go 'cruising' with his older cousin in his mini-truck with that shit 'bumpin'... We felt cool as hell! I remember besides all the classic Miami shit, we also listened to "Back To The Hotel", "Ice, Ice Baby", "No Future In Yo' Frontin", and "Do The Ditty" a lot in the mini-truck. Good times.

This "girls arent into music" notion is absurd, especially when applied to the Bay Area or NYC! You all are hanging out in the wrong crowd if you really believe this crap. There are more female musicians, more women with killer record collections, more dames with extensive music knowledge in this town (SF) than any that I've been in.

I thought you were a Sacto dude. Or are you just posting from somewhere in SF?

These are former landlords, so obviously you know what they're like, but I would caution you to get this free-rent-for-repairs arrangement in writing.  I've known two separate groups of people who have had similar verbal agreements that went sour.  They put in a few months of work and an investment equivalent to the rent, then the landlord has them evicted for failure to pay the rent & simply denies that the work was done.  The rental board wouldn't do anything for these people because there was no contract excusing them from paying rent.

ABSOLUTELY get something in writing.

Music Shit / Re: New Rocket From The Tombs record

Given that the members of this band

-are responsible for some of the greatest records ever made
-have made far more above average records than shitters
-have turned out quality music for years
-have always been active in underground music/art
-and members of their extended family made great records when people gave up on them
(see Styrenes' We Care....)

why doubt that they can deliver a good record? Really, I give them way more of a chance to hit quality than Ice Age making a good follow up to what was merely a good debut. And I give RFTT way more of a chance to make something interested and innovative than so many of today's hyped bands that merely recycle past sounds.
Couldn't have put it better myself

Their blues stuff is OK I guess but it's not where they excel in my opinion. Pigpen's blues, Weir's fucking cowboy crap - that's bathroom break shit. It's all about JERRY.

I hear ya. Pigpen to me has always been more of a mascot.

On an enormous Fang kick.  Best East Bay punk band ever?
I would say so!

I enjoy this track and similar ones like it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5HqxpdX5d8&feature=related

There's something to be said for the Grateful Dead's moments of playing towards Jerry's bluegrass and "rural" music leanings. Also Pigpen.
Fuck yeah! I've played The Dead before for friends(who claim to HATE the dead) w/out them knowing what I'm playing and they'd be all "Man, this is good! Who is it?!" and then when I tell 'em it's The Dead, their facial expression becomes one of confusion and disappointment(priceless!)... like it's soooo bad to admit you like them. Kind of helps me enjoy them that much more... just knowing I'm not one of those uptight faggot music listeners.

I've hated the Dead from when I was much younger than you. You haven't even explained what could possibly be "good" about this band, you just list live recordings you're "jamming." It's fitting that you're deep into the softest-brained prattle ever unleashed. I'll bet you think you're "better" than the Deadheads you claim to love with detached irony anyway.
Not exactly sure who you're directing this at(i'm assuming anyone who enjoys listening to the dead), but personally I don't feel a need to try and explain why I am able to listen to 'em without all the hangups that most people seem to have. I grew up with the music. And my parents weren't/aren't hippies, either. My Dad just loves good American Rock N' Roll. Sure, they might be "boring"(it's also uplifting, imo), but there is heart in the music. I don't care if you have a problem with that. It's 'cool' and easy for "punkers" to hate on The Dead. Who really gives a shit, though. Punks is hippies.
