Non-Music Shit / Re: what beer/wine/cocktail are you enjoying?
« on: September 26, 2013, 04:19:36 PM »Bringin' it back because I just moved to North Carolina from Texas and have a whole new region's worth of beers to try.
Right now, it's Olde Hickory Hefeweizen: http://www.oldehickorybrewery.com/hefe-weizen.html
Quite good, and the only wheat I've had out here that's come anywhere in the neighborhood of the greatness of Live Oak Hefeweizen, which is probably my favorite beer in all of Texas.
Anything in the southeast I've gotta try? Haven't had much from outside of NC aside from a few Georgia breweries (Sweetwater, Terrapin).
Live Oak's hef is the best beer ever. Did you try their dunkelweizen? It's just as good.
I've really been wanting to get into homebrewing, but haven't had a chance. Can any of you dudes who are experience in it recommend what I should get from here? http://www.austinhomebrew.com/index.php?cPath=178_33_52
I took a look and I think you could probably go with the AHS Brewing Equipment Kit (2 Stage Plastic Secondary) (06687) The deluxe is only nice because you get a wort chiller but that package is a $100 upgrade and a wort chiller on its own is probably $60 or $70 bucks. Dont forget you'll want to get a atleast a 5 gallon pot for boiling. That'll run you around $100. If you got the extra dough and space go for a 8-10 gallon pot. Thats the only thing I regret, I still only have a 5 gallon pot. If you got anymore questions PM if you want. There is a million places online for help too. Also, you might want to get The Complete Joy of Homebrewing or How To Brew books. Both are really good for getting started.
Thanks! They have a couple pots for sale on there, but none of them were in stock the last time I looked. Have heard a lot about The Complete Joy. I'll have to look for it.
