Non-Music Shit / Re: what beer/wine/cocktail are you enjoying?
« on: September 26, 2013, 04:19:36 PM »
Bringin' it back because I just moved to North Carolina from Texas and have a whole new region's worth of beers to try.

Right now, it's Olde Hickory Hefeweizen: http://www.oldehickorybrewery.com/hefe-weizen.html

Quite good, and the only wheat I've had out here that's come anywhere in the neighborhood of the greatness of Live Oak Hefeweizen, which is probably my favorite beer in all of Texas.

Anything in the southeast I've gotta try?  Haven't had much from outside of NC aside from a few Georgia breweries (Sweetwater, Terrapin).

Live Oak's hef is the best beer ever. Did you try their dunkelweizen? It's just as good.

I've really been wanting to get into homebrewing, but haven't had a chance. Can any of you dudes who are experience in it recommend what I should get from here? http://www.austinhomebrew.com/index.php?cPath=178_33_52

I took a look and I think you could probably go with the AHS Brewing Equipment Kit (2 Stage Plastic Secondary) (06687) The deluxe is only nice because you get a wort chiller but that package is a $100 upgrade and a wort chiller on its own is probably $60 or $70 bucks.  Dont forget you'll want to get a atleast a 5 gallon pot for boiling.  That'll run you around $100.  If you got the extra dough and space go for a 8-10 gallon pot.  Thats the only thing I regret, I still only have a 5 gallon pot.  If you got anymore questions PM if you want.  There is a million places online for help too.  Also, you might want to get The Complete Joy of Homebrewing or How To Brew books.  Both are really good for getting started.

Thanks! They have a couple pots for sale on there, but none of them were in stock the last time I looked. Have heard a lot about The Complete Joy. I'll have to look for it.

How do you guys frame your posters/fliers? Any special backing/padding in the frames or anything like that?

I saw Steven Wright last year. It was one of the best nights ever. He did a lot of material I'd never heard. At one point he said "I just realized my mom told me to never talk to strangers" and walked off stage. He came back, but it'd have been so great if that was his closer.

I've been playing it/writing about it for two weeks at work, I greatly prefer Red Dead. If I wanted to drive around Los Angeles with annoying people I'd, well, just go do that. Wind Waker HD fucking rules tho.

Got the inside scoop on whether or not there'll be another Read Dead?!

PS3 will probably be cheaper when PS4 comes out and I can't imagine what the PS4 will have except next-gen games. My PS3 plays DVDs, blu-rays, streams Netflix/Hulu, and you can load a thumb or external drive through the USB port. It's a damn good deal, I pathetically couldn't imagine life without it.

PS3 already got it's price drop, it's now 199 dollars. That's with measly 8gb drive, but the point is to buy a $50 SSD (solid state drive) to make it the best thing ever. So for $250 you get the best media machine around: add in PS+ for a year for about 45 bucks and you get around 5 games for free per month, it's an amazing deal.

Is PS4 worth it? Most definitely yes. Is it worth holding out if you don't have a PS3 yet? Yes it is.

(PS4 doesn't have backwards compatibility for PS3 games: the Gaikai streaming is coming eventually but that isn't a 1:1 BC solution in any case. Getting PS3 now and PS4 later is win win)

Dang. I thought I'd read somewhere that it'd be backwards compatible. Kind of annoying to have such a big game drop 2 months before the new console. Gonna have to keep going back and forth between the 3 and 4.

Are you getting one at launch or soon after, P-TNT?

Off topic but since you guys play games...

I nearly purchased a PS3 the other day for the Blu-ray capability and to play FIFA and NHL14.  Then I got to thinking about the new console coming out later in the year.  Is it worth buying a PS3 at this point?  I'm not a hardcore gamer but I don't want to drop $250 on a system that could be obsolete in a few months.

The PS4 drops in November and I believe it will be backwards compatible with PS3 games and it will play Blu Rays. If you don't really care about any of the next-gen games, then maybe you can wait until the 4 comes out and they should drop the price further on the 3.

My PS3 shit the bed a few months ago and I just borrowed my cousin's to play to wait and buy a PS4 instead when it's out.

Anybody have that picture of Marc Bolan talking about his new punk single? Think it was about "Laser Love". Can't find it anywhere.

Has anybody ordered from Velted Regnub in the last 5 months. I'm wondering if it is just me who is waiting. Dude posts new records every other day.

I tried ordering something from them on some site I don't remember and waited and waited and never got an invoice.
