Music Shit / Re: whats your take on the BLANK DOGS ?
« on: September 21, 2007, 09:47:26 AM »
blank dogs hit/miss ratio seems to be about 2/3. when they hit it they successfully conjure up slabs of melancholia that rank up there w/ the names, josef k, early new order, etc. great stuff for when you're straddling a body-length pillow and sobbing uncontrollably. or maybe that's just me.

He's not kidding:

Check out this track list for EA's new Tony Hawk contender, 'Skate.'  Notable n00bs:  Exploding Hearts; Beat Beat Beat; Briefs.  Lotsa golden oldies, too.  Whubba??

Well then that that hatchet-job of a review up there came completely effortlessly, whatever.  I mean, he confuses the whole point of the record--which is, presumably, to be irritating--with "angst."  Seriously, since when did hot, privledged white girls become capable of producing angst???   And don't give direct me to Bikini Kill (I'm shocked HE didn't, although that's conceivably what "post-Slits" means, maybe) because they weren't hot.  Finally, including a little made-up fantasy in a review ("... save the band equipment they stole from their a-hole ex's basement") is embarrassing for everyone involved.

I just ordered this--BUT that review is such a effortless and tired list of cliches, I almost didn't.

That CMJ review is clearly the work of Eric Davidson, the singer of the New Bomb Turks.  I wouldn't call it effortless at all.  He's extremely knowledgable about this scene.  This is his (rarely updated) blog on the CMJ site:  http://www.cmj.com/relay/?cat=33

Yeah its fucking retarded.  Ditto for the Druids oF Stonehenge reish.  Fuck you, gravy robbers!

I didn't see that Tropicalia Part 2 comp on Soul Jazz. That's great news, the first one was excellent. Anyone heard the new one?

Just saw that the Os Mutantes LPs are $27 a pop, ouch.

Music Shit / Re: Places to play in New Mexico?

Albuquerque doesn't really seem like it's on your way. If you do play there, try Burts Tiki Lounge. I think the only other venue there is called the Launchpad and it's kinda big and they kinda suck.

I played in Lubbock once. It wasn't completely horrible.

Woah man, it was CLOVIS.  Come on, you could really piss some people off with a mistake like that.
