The Tucson-based band COiN, featuring exactly one half of Doo Rag, uses a Commodore 64 to compose music, and its fucking great.  Dude actually brings a floppy drive to shows with no monitor, and pounds on trash can lids while a girl jumps around and sings with a Powerglove on.  They have an LP on a German label.  I wish they had a myspace page but they are mysterious like that.

What about this guy?

http://www.discogs.com/release/325518

You know, I've come across a lot of Mario-inpired electronica, unfortunately all of it was limited to CD--the release you posted had a big fat 12" though, with art ripped right from the GameBoy pak!  That's going in the gallery!  The early 90s were pretty tough on vinyl, so I ended up focusing on the "first wave," but stuff keeps popping up.  Of course now theres quite a few "revivalist" artists and bit-core bands doing stuff on vinyl.  LiveFastDie, for instance!  Nobody seems to be following in Buckner & Garcia's footsteps, though...

Okay, I finished the story, and made a gallery of cover art as well.  Thanks to everyone who had tips.

It's probably this

http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/bulworth/maniacinthebrainiac.htm

Also, you may want to look into this game:

http://www.familychristian.com/shop/product.asp?prodID=13635

"...Save Angeltown from the schemes of Maniac Brainiac and his band of evil minions. Hours of action-packed, arcade style fun for the whole family. Encourages Biblical values of obedience, selflessness, humility and wisdom. For ages 6 and up. "

BTW:  Uncle Vic had several singles, they are available on GEMM.

I might add that that song is by Uncle Vic, who also wrote other hits like "ET Get off the Phone" (not to be confused with Buckner and Garcia's controversial follow-up single "ET, I Love You").  Uncle Vic's "Space Invaders" can be found on the Dr. Demento comp, "Demento's Mementos."

I just spotted a Yars Revenge LP on the 'bay!

anybody remember that song Space Invaders that had the hook "He's Hooked, He's Hooked, His Brain Is Cooked"

the same group (well the songs had a similar sound at least) had another hit about the Maniacs Vs. the Brainiacs or something

if anybody can help me out with more info on these I'd be fucking spazzed

Mark, enjoy.

The Buckner & Garcia LP had singles; I haven't seen evidence of 12" versions of them around--but the 7" pic sleeves for "Do the Donkey Kong" and "Ode to a Centipede" (and "Pac-Man Fever") exist for sure.  I'd love to see scans/photos of the covers, icki!!!  Google, eBay are turning up squat.

The Asteroids LP took me by surprise--all I know is it's unrelated to and predates B&G, and uses the 2600 box art on the cover.  There's got to be more like this!

I was hoping for "Saturday Supercade" tie-in stuff, which might include Frogger, Q*Bert, Donkey Kong Jr. and even Pitfall.  Haven't come across it yet.

Speaking of the "Supercade," I did a history of game cartoons, recently, at http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/blogs/readygamefire/4757/ .*
