Music Shit / Re: Music Documentary Recommendation Thread

I like the Bruce Haack and Moog documentaries.

I can't stand the Bruce Haack interviews with all the modern bands, djs, dumbfucks.  I just got the Electric Lucifer LP two days ago.

I couldn't even finish the Moog one.

I thought the singing was off too much, which got to me by the end.

Also, I had an old lady a couple rows behind me kept talking loudly:

"What did he just say?"
"I think this is based on a true story"

Someone recommend some good obscure giallos for me...

I like The New York Ripper, Opera, and Tenebrae, but those aren't obscure.

Not giallos, but you might like: Two Evil Eyes--two Edgar Allan Poe (I walk by his death site everyday going to school) stories done by the great Romero and Argento.

just watched Dawn of the Dead 2004 = good shit.

Really?  I am too big of a fan of the original.  All the appeal for me from the OG was lost in the remake.

Music Shit / NINE//UNDERGROUND (Atlanta 1982-1985)
« on: October 11, 2007, 07:56:24 AM »
Here is a compilation I just recently converted from LP to mp3s.  I sent it to mutant-sounds, so maybe they'll upload it there, but for the time being, I thought I'd share it with those of you that like minimal-synth, industrial, and noise shit.

SendSpace zip: http://www.sendspace.com/file/79siuh

Here are the notes from the back:
"The music on this album was first broadcast on WREK's "Notes From Underground" in Atlanta, Georgia over a three year period beginning in the summer of 1982.  The making of industrial/electronic and related musics in Atlanta reached a peak during 1983-1984 as the radio show and performers fed off of each other and the activity that was happening all over the world.

PVC PRECINCT developed a full and rhythmical electronic sound while PILLOWTEXANS have moved on with their alternative/accessible music.  Members of CLUBFOOT and PVC PRECINCT are now performing as the electronic trio FLATBUSH.  ACCIDENTS OF CULTURE, whose original sound followed from AMM, continue to create music under various groupings of musicians.  JARBOE and INCEST have left Atlanta for New York.  INCEST no longer performs, but JARBOE is now creating a wide range of music, from the extremity of her work on the "Dry Lungs" albums and with SWANS, to the accessibility of her pop releases.  While YOUNG SCHIZOPHRENICS are still notorious in the city, output has (at least temporarily) subsided.  SEQUENCE 3, who is actually the host of a local new rave radio show, continues to produce experimental music under a variety of monikers."

         Side one
PVC PRECINCT-White Devils
PILLOW TEXANS-Baking Lizards
CLUBFOOT-Untitled
PVC PRECINCT-Untitled
INCEST-Untitled
PVC PRECINCT-Rat Lab
         Side two
JARBOE-Walls
YOUNG SCHIZOPHRENICS-Podunk Earth/Biological Stimuli
SEQUENCE 3- NLB
ACCIDENTS OF CULTURE-Untitled
349-Gun

Released on Perimeter Records, Atlanta, Georgia 1987

Sorry for the potentially bad conversion and definitely bad picture.  I don't have a digital camera, so I'm using my camera phone.

Enjoy!

I wouldn't trust playing that thing upright.  You cant top Sound Burgers sound quality as far as those compact portables go.  Im sure that Sony is better than a Mr. Disc tho.  NO BIGGER THAN A MAN'S FOOT!

Mr. Disc and Sound Burger are the same thing, just different names for UK (Sound Burger) and US (Mr. Disc).  It is able to play upright because it's "armless" with linear tracking, unlike the Sound Burger/Mr. Disc.  Sony made a similar "full" model, which I used to have.  I originally was looking to get a Sound Burger (for the name alone) but the PS-F5 takes up far less surface area because it is capable of playing upright.  I have a small desk in the laboratory, so surface area is important.

I think all three above mentioned portable record players were made in 1983 and only that year.  Originally, Audio Technica made the Sound Burger/Mr. Disc to compete with the Walkman (what a mistake that was), so it bombed.  There is also another, lesser known, cheaply made portable that has a tape deck as well.  It's called "Sky Studio"

I don't want to talk about the price, but I'm sure you could find it by completed listings on ebay, where I bought it.  Let's just say this is a "vintage novelty item", which means $$$.

As far as needleless, are you referring to the laser one?  I'd love to get that but fuck me, it cost more than my car.

Works really well, and I can rip to my computer while I'm listening/working.  Runs on 4 AA batteries or adapter.

If only they made an arm strap for jogging...
