Guy Clark is one of those relatatively under-the-radar American treasures like Brother JT or Dexter Romweber or John Brannon (though Guy had way more commercial success).  I've been listening to all those guys for nearly thirty years, and while the occasional stinker creeps in, the batting average is pretty fucking high. Clark's 80s production made decent songs almost unlistenable, but his last record, My Favorite Picture of You, in part a tribute to his recently deceased wife, is easily one of his best.  Just a great spirit and a dude who would only record when he had something to say.  Sad day around here, but tequila and Old #1 brings feeling to the numb.

Eddie Noack- Psycho: The K-Ark and Allstar Recordings 1962-1969-  the most fun I've had listening to just about anything lately. Hard-living' honky tonker that delivers song after song. I may prefer the Beasts of Bourbon's version of "Psycho," but maybe just because I heard theirs first, but Eddie can creep you right out.  The man has range, too, as he can seamlessly shift from the deep creepers of Psycho to the raise your Stroh's sing-along "Beer Drinkin' Blues." Good times.

"Kid" indeed.

I seem to recall you didn't come to the footy that day. A little windy with a chance of rain and nope, Old Kyle wanted to stay indoors and in doing so, missed one of the most controversial incidents of our game for the decade. You deserved the abuse.

How about Examplehead or Foot and Mouth, Scrod? B-side was such an incredible source.

As the "kid" who took over the mail-order mantle (from Matty Whittle of God/Foot and Mouth) in '94, it was my job to put those catalogues together and mail 'em out around the world. I wonder if you were still receiving then and yeah, I imagine orders did take many months to arrive. Quite often I had to wait for one last piece of the order puzzle before I could ship and man, sometimes that in itself took months.

Were the Christmas crackers of the edible or the pull-apart kind? The staff back then was more than likely Glenn Terry (now at Vicious Sloth Collectibles), David Laing (of Dogmeat Records) and Bruce Milne. Probably Matty Whittle too.
Examplehead brings it back- "another hangover again" was an anthem in the day- for about three of us

Bevis Frond - Miasma and Inner Marshland

I had heard these a bit, but never owned them.  They're awesome!  I think he's been quoted as saying he was trying to get a Hendrix, Byrds, Wipers thing and that does sound like an apt description.  Great, murky, but still clear enough recordings and plenty of guitar rippage.  Probably a better version of what the Paisley Underground was trying to do.

I guess these are RSD releases, eh?  ha ha.  I'm glad I got them.
Whoa, I picked up both of these used recently after not buying any Frond shit for ages.  Always dug the records in the right mood, and for all the "guitar heroics" the man can write a monster hook.  I don't pull his records out very often, but I always seem to enjoy them.

Jeff Cowell- Lucky Strikes and Liquid Gold- a real grower, this is that rare self-released 70s discovery that actually delivers.  "Not Down This Low" is the king of the loser anthems with the biggest, hookiest  chorus.  Late-night must, assuming you're drunk, fucked, and alone.

Laurice- Best of Laurice Vol. 2- the gift that keeps on giving.  Your brain is scrambled later cuz eight songs are stuck in it.

Pronto- Pronto- after yawning through several modern garage punk thangs, this goes harder with crunchier guitars and at least brings some energy to the proceedings. Hopeful.

Bo Diddley- Where It All Began- just a whole bunch of fun, Bo bringing the funk.

Junkpile Jimmy- still fucking great

Has anybody picked up that Replacements "Trouble Boys" book? If so, any good?

I thought it was great.  Very depressing; not a happy bunch of people for various reasons, going back to childhood, or possible owing to clinical depression, in Paul's case.  I knew they drank a lot, but I didn't really realize they were one of the hardest partying bands ever (drinking and drugging to such excess that it doesn't sound fun at all).  It's insane, the lengths they would go to sabotage themselves.
Yea, it's not a riotous celebration of a travelling, fuck it-all rock 'n' roll circus- those guys had deep-seated issues, but man, did they treat a lot of people like shit. It's a great read if you're into the band, but it's not The Dirt.

How about Crystal Gazing Luck Amazing? And maybe it could use a slight trimming, but Popular Favorites gets very close.

Re: TWR - I like Exploring the Axis and Moonhead
I also like Sack Full of of Silver, which has interestingly inventive guitar shit and a pretty cool cover of You Doo Right."  Live, they had that western desert psych thang that could sound big in the right place. I think they created a distinctive sound beyond just Guy's voice.

Pontiac Brothers are WAY WAY underrated - they can stand tall with the Leaving Trains, in my book.
The Pontiac Brothers were making way better Stones records in the 80s than the Stones were (not saying all that much, but hey). Doll Hut is solid front to back.

Fear- The Record- haven't heard this in years but it brought the stupid smile. Nice mix of dumb and smart
Feast of Snakes- Harry Crews lives! James Arthur should have a small statue erected for all the good he's done folks' ears
Fe Fi Fums- Shake All Night- from this era, this shit really stands up.  Plenty of hooks and mucho attitude and just a touch heavier than others trying this route .  My baby got the boom boom!

Warriors looking for vengeance tonight- curious to see if they try to run up the score on the Bucks after late-game Buck trash talk in streak-ender-  odds on Steph playing in 4th quarter?

He also makes everyone else on that team considerably better- Draymond may lead all forwards in assists this year because when they double Steph, he hits Draymond at the top of the key and he drives the lane in a 4 on 3. If they had secondary assists like they do in hockey, Dray could lead the friggin' league in assists, cuz the Warriors are so good at making that extra pass.

FM Knives are my favorite American band of the past 15 years besides maybe the Sleaze.
Well that changes everything
