Personally...I fucking love Operation S...I always wondered why nobdy ever talks about 'em. I was wondering when a new record would come out...now there's two new 7 inchers!

I still think both Checkers records are pretty decent...I really liked the first mix of the first album when it came out(the remixed rerelease lost ALOT of the punch)...you're right though, it doesn't sound nearly as good now.

As far as current stuff goes...anybody pick up that Candygirl and Friends CD??? I only gave it a listen or two, but it seemed pretty weak. How 'bout The Electric Kisses LP...anybody like that?

Music Shit / What shitty records can you buy for $20???
« on: February 05, 2007, 05:06:58 PM »
Today I had to kill some time between work and my night classes...I hit the shitty record store near school, and decided I'd spend the $20 in my pocket on as many records (that I would listen to at least one track on) that I could. This time around, I only bought albums I already own...most of which I give away or sell for $2 to $8 at my DJ nights. Here's what I picked up:

Ducks Deluxe - "Don't Mind Rockin' Tonight"
Dwight Twilley - "Scuba Divers"
Elton Motello - "Victim Of Time"
The Romantics - "S/T"
The Vapors - "Magnets"
Nick Lowe - "Labor Of Lust"
The Dik Van Dykes - "Nobody Likes..."
V/A - "Urgh...it's a Music War"
V/A - "Primitive Air Raid" (sleeve is kinda ratty...but $4)

Now it's you turn...take a $20 bill, and hit the local dollar bins, and see who can turn in the best selection of albums  for $20. Oh yeah...I spent $20 Canadian...so that's like $17 Us, so most of you get  a couple bucks bonus...

Music Shit / Re: Best rap song ever?

"Raising Hell" by Run DMC Is my fave...

Check this out...my pal Izzo wrote a preview of the Ice Cube show for some local weekly, referring several times to the scenes in "Are We There Yet", where Ice Cube wrestles a deer and rides a horse. Cube read it and wasn't very happy when Izzo showed up at the show last week...here's a pic...

Non-Music Shit / Re: Band/ Music tattoos

I played in a skate-rock band for while...the band was one big inside joke, but some people obviously took it seriously. At least two people in town have got the skateboarding panther from our album cover, tattooed on them...one of them was stoked, because in doing so, he also finally got a Black Flag tattoo (the panther is wearing a Black Flag patch).

Music Shit / Re: Monster Magnet

I love Monster Magnet..."Spine of God" was the best record that came out while I was in high school. Funny thing is last night I was sitting around having a few beers, and broke out "Superjudge" to listen to "Twin Earth" (anyone remember that video?!?!)...I was thinking how great Monster Magnet were, and if anyone else still thought so. This morning I wake up, and here's this thread!

Music Shit / Re: Buzzcocks on an AARP commercial
« on: January 19, 2007, 12:08:23 PM »
All three of those bands have SOME good songs...I think The Lurkers have alot MORE good songs than Slaughter and The Dogs or Sham 69 though. I really like The Lurkers though...I can't see how they are overated...

The Lurkers?
Slaughter and the Dogs?
Sham?

Better than the Buzzcocks...who aren't even new wave.  Even if you don't like the pop stuff, have you heard Spiral Scratch?  Way more "punk" and way better than anything those bands ever did.

The Lurkers were a fucking killer band...a handful of good singles and one great album...definitely don't deserve to be lumps in with those other two...

I only get song titles tattooed on my body. I've got "Shake Some Action" tattooed above my ass, and "We're Pretty quick" tattooed above my dick...
