Cult band behind Franz Ferdinand make comeback after 11 years

Nov 29 2009 Sunday Mail

THE cult band which spawned chart-toppers Franz Ferdinand is making a comeback after 11 years.

Alex Kapranos and Paul Thomson started out as members of The Yummy Fur before the group split in 1999.

The band are reuniting for a tour to promote the release of a greatest hits album of their new wave influenced pop.

The Yummy Fur will then play a string of gigs in the UK and US next year. The band originally featured Kapranos on bass and keyboards, Thomson on drums and John McKeown as lead singer.

According to the band's old record label, Guided Missile, the new album, What's Your Rupture?, is out within weeks.

Their first proper gig in years takes place at Glasgow's Nice N Sleazy on January 7.

Kapranos will be not be involved but Thomson and McKeown will be joined by guitarist Brian McDougall.
