Remembering more:

- Blacktop on Au-Go-Go
- Hunches CD, on In the Red I think
- some noise rock on the Load label, but forget which band or bands

Other things I saw today which should still be in the store:

- Blank Its on Empty (2 copies)
- Briefs - one of the newer CDs on BYO
- Demolition Doll Rods on Swami
- Half Japanese - 1 CD, probably 90s vintage, also a Jad and David Fair CD
- Little Killers on Gern Blandsten (4 copies)
- Some Action - new CD (3 copies, actually a couple weeks back, but must still be there)
- various stuff on Skin Graft label (Flying Luttenbachers, Dazzling Killmen)

Most of the above I put in the top of the racks facing out, so if you go to the store tonight, just look up in that letter's section.  There's so much garbage to flip through, but still enough good records to make it worth it.

Thanks all.  I'll try to return to Tower this evening -- I didn't get much past the 1st third of the alphabet during lunch.  If that CD is $4-5 like everything else I bought, I might as well check it out.  Or I could wait until the last day (12/23 at this store, I think) and maybe it'll be 90% off, but not sure if dealing with that circus is worth another few dollars.

Someone at Tower also liked the Lids.  They had at least 4 copies of the CD.  I cleaned them out of a bunch of things on Empty, In the Red, etc -- some which I missed the first time around, and others for gifts.

Here's another one I need opinions on: the Icky Boyfriends double CD retrospective.  I seem to recall someone here hyping it (Hyde?)  Worth $6, assuming anyone knows my taste?  And yes, I actually DO listen to more than KBD punk rock.

These guys any good?  I always assumed they were a noise band, but the Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coachwhips) says garage rock.  I ask because the buyer at the Tower Records in downtown NYC must have loved them, and now it's all 70% off.

No problem -- it's so common I stopped correcting people when I was a kid.  I more or less answer to either name.

Sorry I called ya Jason, Justin. It was pretty late.

I listened to 5 seconds of each song, threw it on the trade pile, and sold it a few days later to one of my Japanese contacts for $90.

I've never seen Smart Remarks outside eBay, but would certainly pick it up if one ever turned up in a local store.

Jason, you will HATE that Modulators record.

I have it, along with their 1st single.

Lemme know if you ever get any Smart Remarks, for which I will trade an unknown NJ KBD-esque thinger I have.

Johan Kugelberg who ran Onion once told me they only made 200 of those, but I've seen it enough to think it was much more -- or maybe they just all ended up in NYC record stores when people sold their promos locally.  I don't think it would do more than $5 on eBay.

how bout the "down to high street / cheater's heaven" promo 45 on onion? cardboard sleeve...

possibly up for trade...

Someone posted this link on the Goner board:

http://www.oregonlive.com/printer/printer.ssf?/base/news/116555013828440.xml

Note the final quote from the owner of the acetate:

"But Hill, keeping an eye on the auction from Canada, is taking a warier view. 'I'm going to wait until I actually see the money before I get excited.'"

Probably not a lot more than $25 these days.  If your cover is a color I don't already have, I'll pay $40.

any idea how much the 12" to promote the 7" by tjsa goes for?

I think pressing rights are a gimmie...

Everything I've seen says the opposite.  Anyone who is bidding on this thinking they can press and sell copies better have an army of lawyers behind them.

Quote
Watch, the high bid will be someone fronting for Lou Reed, who will then throw it in a bank vault. You KNOW the Old Lizard is gonna live to be 97.

He has an office in my building ("Sister Ray Enterprises") but I've never seen him, only messengers in the elevator with his name on their packages.

I don't think it'll successfully sell, and they'll have to hunt their way down the list of fake bidders in an attempt to sell it privately.

I figured they already started melting them.  I rarely see the cutouts anymore.  If you have a source, let me know.  I'd consider buying quantity just to give them out to people as gifts.

OK, back on topic.  I've got to stop being lazy and post these as they come up.

SOLD! Germs - GI LP - $20
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170049578392
Not a true 1st press (which would have a lyric insert instead of innersleeve, plus a heavy pasteboard sleeve -- I have one for trade if anyone needs) but this is a very fair price for an early press in such nice shape.

SOLD! Now - Can You Fix Me Up with Her 7" - $3
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4033303386
The only single off that powerpop Now LP which one of the post-Teengenerate bands (Firestarter?) covered a track off of.  There's a European press of this (Portugal?) with a sleeve, but the US one was issued without it.

SOLD! Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments - Bait & Switch LP - $5
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270041762329
Easily on my top 10 of the 90s.  If someday people say "I can't believe I didn't buy that when it was $5!", I'll feel vindicated.

Explosives LP - $16
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270056194331
One of Roky's backing bands in the 80s.  I love a lot of the stuff they did with him, but suspect they must suck without him.  I bet the seller would take a best offer of $10.

Village People - Renaissance LP - $4
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280053300037
Featuring the punky "Food Fight", as said here many times before.  But this the first Japanese press I've seen.  Missing the OBI?

Splintered/Back Off Cupids split 7" - $12
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220058060068
One of the bands is a RFTC side-project that I like, but this one's more interesting for the Drunken Fish zine inside, the highlights of which are a seminal piece on lo-fi punk (Mike Rep, O. Rex, Screaming Mee-Mees, Solger, etc) by Dave Stimson which highly influenced my want list when I first read it (I still need the original press of the first Tav Falco single) and a good noise punk article by Johan Kugelberg.  Second press of 200 which is rarer than the first of 500.  I think I have one of these 2nd presses for trade too, but I want about double what  this guy is asking.

[Edited twice to mark a few as sold.]

Certainly not.  I also question cancelling a bid with "your bid is high and your feedback is low. Please contact us before bidding." for someone with a 167 rating, 100% positive.  At least they were smart enough to cancel 'emoscreamo'.

47 bids have been cancelled already? You think the non cancelled bids are all legit?
