Music Shit / Re: That Crazy VU acetate
« on: December 06, 2006, 12:26:57 PM »
Here's an important acetate that definitely got overshadowed by the VU one, but at least the bidder on this is pretty much guaranteed legit:

Seems all the Ol' Blue Eyes fans are dead, given how far it came in under estimate.

Thanks for the detailed answer.  In case anyone in NYC is interested, as of last week there was one on the wall at the East Village Academy Records for around this price.

500 pressed, poorly distributed. As of 2003, the band still had 150 copies. They gave me 100, which I started to sell for $20 a pop until Byron Colley told me to double that. Over a two year period I sold them for $35 - 45 to individuals, $30 - $50 on ebay. Last one I sold to a person I charged $45. I have about 10 left. The band's copies will never leave the band.

Scott, what's an original 1979 Geeks LP worth?

Well, as a counterpoint, I've ordered from him once or twice -- one time I know it was at least 4-6 records -- and everything was great.

Too bad the Motards seller has totally earned that crap feedback rating. He burned me on 'mint' 7" that were water damaged...

Another reason not to sell it on eBay: the top bidder right now at $19,999 is named "emoscreamo".  Yeah right.

I think Ebay is the wrong route for selling this. I was waiting to see what this would go for at auction...and I'm totally surprised to see it on Ebay. I talked to a guy in Vancouver who said he'd go as high as $12, 000 on this(and I know he has that kinda money)...frankly, I'm interested to see how high it goes...

PATH train runs all night -- it's just not super fast at 3 AM.  If anyone need details about living in JC, contact me offlist.

Another thing to think about is Jersey City. The PATH might be extending their hours later into the evening and Jersey City has some decent bars and shops opening. Jersey City is as clse to NYC as Williamsburg, it's just zipcode snobs won't move there cuz they don't wanna tell their friends back home they live in Jersey, so they move to Astoria instead, look at a fuckin' map. I lived in JC for 3 years and it was fine.

I bought this today for $1.99.  I suspect I'll hate it, so trade offers are welcome.

(BTW, I think it's so stupid popsike is forcing users to login, so anyone is free to use my account which is 'popsiked' for both username and password.  I've already posted this to the excellent bugmenot.com site.)

Wow.  I thought the original plan was to sell it through a major auction house at a big rock 'n' roll sale.  I question if eBay is the right venue for getting top dollar for this.

Music Shit / Re: what is the most you've ever paid for a record?
« on: November 22, 2006, 01:13:58 PM »
My highest spend is also for the Trend 45, but it was "only" $500.  It's easy to justify that kind of purchase, because you always know that unless someone turns up a box of 100 stock copies, you can always flip it for a profit if you need the cash later.  And the last copy on eBay topped a kilobuck, so no worries here.  I recall the days when I wouldn't spend more than $20 on a single, then $40, then $100, then...  But I rarely pay "eBay value" for any of the $100+ records I own.  It requires a lot of digging and work, but that's half the fun.

Oh, I once bid 4 figures on a Rock Bottom 45, but lost.

since i discussedd my best scores in another thread, i figured it's only fair to disclose the more shameful collecting entries:

trend: 'electric chair' 45 - $787. i'd do it again. still one of my favorite kbd records ever.

Any used stuff in the store, or does it all go straight to eBay?

I kind of wanted to get teabagged.

Am I alone in saying this?

Yes, you most certainly are.

Cakeshop show was great.  It was both the best KK&BBQ show I've seen and best show I've seen at Cakeshop.  I regret missing the Weds show.

For the half-dozen of you who care about this record featured in my column, more questions answered by a band member via Jason Litchfield:

Re: the song Black Beauty, "It was a series of puns on black girls and time-release speed (meth) capsules known as 'black beauties'.  See http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=black+beauties"

Re: the one punk song on the record, "The live act was a series of disconnected song styles for which Stu changed clothes, put on wigs and even masks to match the song - there were blues, funk, ballads and punk, all parodies in some sense.  That's why "I'm Not Nice" seems so out of context."

And a priceless pic of vocalist Stu was included, which I'll only post here if someone actually replies asking for it.
